So I took a turn for the worst late on Friday night and ended up driving to the local A&E at 2am. By 8am they had taken blood, given me 2 egc's, a ct scan and an xray. Doctor comes in and says, " Well all of the tests are clear apart from your bloods indicate you had a heart attack" ffs.
After waiting 12 hours in a cubicle for a bed I'm finally on a ward and then get told I'll be here for 5 days.
Fuck, hope you are doing well and recover from this @JBP|.

Thank you, pretty sure I'll be fine. I'm more pissed off that we were supposed to be having an early Christmas with Mrs JBP|'s daughter and husband. Instead I get hospital food (although I've never sampled their delights before).

No worries. Hospital food is shit, get your family to smuggle in real food. Just chill out and get better.

@JBP| your first episode of this? I know it's scary but don't be too frightened by it.... they'll do lots of tests and then determine if actually 'was' a HA or something of a warning instead. Make sure you eat the food - you need the nutrition!

Sorry to hear that @JBP| - hope you feel much better soon. You're in the right place to give you and your family comfort at least.

You've focussed my mind a bit - I've been toying with the idea of buying a defib. If someone at my house has a heart attack we're not getting a response for probably at least an hour. So having a defib makes sense. You've just bumped it up my priority list.

Yep. Sorry. I know this post has turned a little into "about me" - but I really do wish you all the best m8.

Yes, first episode that's landed me in hospital (this is actually the first time I can remember of having to stay in hospital.) I've been getting pains in the right side of my shoulder and back since moving home in the middle of August during that heat wave. I spoke to a woman that used to work in a hospital she informed me it was the wrong side to be a HA, so I just put it down to anxiety and controlled the pain with deep breathing as soon as I felt it start. That worked until Friday night.

You'd be incredibly lucky to get a response team in an hour.
I called 111 first, would gave been on hold for half an hour it said, so probably would have been an hour. I didn't even bother with 999 and got myself to A&E.
When I told the lady at reception the above, she shook her head and replied "You'd have waited 12 hours to get an ambulance".

There was an ambulance strike that day wasn't there?

Is this a case of never shop at tesco again, or don't buy clothes from there ever again:

Tesco's own response would be to cut off it's supplier - not fix the issues. All that does is mean same shit, different supplier.

This whole model of buying stuff from faraway countries is bullshit.

Oh I am all for for bringing production back to the country of sale even if it means higher prices.

Unfortunately sentimentality is easy, much like people saying yeah I don't mind paying more taxes etc.

Many of us don't mind though paying more in taxes or for the cost of goods.

I would still say more people say such things than would accept it without complaint if it was to happen, especially those that can't afford things now.

You can pay extra tax for me. I could always use less tax. Or at least the option to specify where my tax goes in its entirety.

That's one thing I would love to see, laws enacted which ring fence taxes(whether percentage or specific) for certain causes.

I used to live in Denmark and I'm sure there they put a breakdown on your pay slip of where your tax is going. As a result people are generally happy to pay more tax, or that was my experience anyway.

It's called tax hypothecation, and it's absolute anathema to British governments, who very much don't like the proles seeing what they're up to. Even National Insurance, which is supposed to be explicitly ring-fenced for health and social security, is fiddled about with by governments all the time so transparency is impossible.

Generally speaking, hypothecation is useful in very narrow, very time-boxed use cases (a specific tax-raising exercise to achieve a distinct goal by a certain time) but a bad idea on an ongoing basis because it becomes a policy straightjacket.

A mate of mine dresses as a woman most weekends. When he "came out" (if that's the right term) it was surprising to say the least. Fully heterosexual, beard, works as a plumber. People are different.

Indeed although I would prefer NI to be used as the sole fund for the welfare state.

I always thought NI was used for the welfare state but it barely covers the bill?

It's supposed to cover lots of things, but doesn't.

Personally, I don't mind paying taxes, but I would rather they were better spent.

Yeh @DaGaffer explained it, hate the fact that we don't lawfully ring fence taxes for specific purposes.

In Denmark, they ring fenced the toll revenues from the Fynen Sound bridge, with the provision that once the bridge was paid off, the tolls would either cease, or be limited to just what was needed for maintenance. Once the bridge actually got paid off, the government then did a U turn and said "actually, this is a great earner, we're keeping the tolls in place" .

I'm sure they did to the QE2 bridge here as well.

I've a metric fuckton of work to get done before I knock it on the head on Friday. It would help me have a stress-free xmas.

I really really really can't be fucked tho. Today I've played some rocket league and had two wanks.
