52 plate Type-R, 200,000 miles, broken aircon, wrecked bodywork, my seat no longer tips forward, upholstry is shagged, everything but the engine is shafted basically.

I reckon I can get another 200,000 out of it. I hate wasting money on cars :)

That's good to hear Moriarty, the one in the Seat is the same as the VW one used in similar age cars. What reg is yours?

What I meant was that you generally get more features, lane assist for instance, for a fraction of the price, also the position of the media centre in the Leon means that you need to look a long way from the road to see the map, separate satnavs tend to sit on top of the dash almost in the eyeline. I do get text instructions in the instrument cluster though which helps a bit. I have already had to fork out £45 for an update though, and that's from a dodgy website that might not work, if I have to get an official VW one it'll be over £150! It takes 2 hours to load from the SD card and I've only driven about 25 mins since I put it in :)
Moriath not moriaty im not a sherlock holmes baddie ;). 14 plate passat. Only thing i found out of date so far is the rpundabout locally that is now a cross traffic light schizzle.

I get the stuff on the map replicated to the driver instrument panel and tbh if you need lane assist then you shouldnt be driving. Turn right at the next roundabout hmm i should be in the right hand lane.

I'm not 100% sure, I didn't look at any other ones, but I think that the self leveling xenon headlights, the front parking sensors and the satnav are upgrades. I'm not sure about the auto wipers and auto lights, or the self dimming rear view mirror?

To be quite honest though these things are nice to find but ultimately they're not a deal breaker. I quite like auto wipers, but decent variable intermittent ones are almost as good. The front sensors are useful occasionally, and an annoying pain in the ass at others. Built in satnav is always crap. Expensive to keep up to date, and never as good as a decent TomTom or Garmin at three times the price.
Seems to pretty much have all the same gizmos as mine then, sat nav, auto dimming rear view, leveling lights etc. One thing I'm grateful for not having is the lane assist / warning, had that in a courtesy car and shit the bed that was annoying. Granted it was in a stinking Mazda 2, but hey ho.

I didn't realise it cost so much to update the sat nav mind! £150!? They can get fucked, I'm fine not having new build estates on my sat nav.

I use google maps on my phone as my satnav when I'm in my van. I think I must get an update every week,it's brilliant and free. Do people still buy stand alone satnav units?

My new car has it and it's a 3 yr deal which auto updates, apparently the car has a minimal internet for that and if I crash it contacts VW assist automatically. I've not really read up on it yet, just going by what the sales guy said

Be careful, our old tom-tom tried to send me up a one way street that had recently become one way, next to a police station.

Mine has a grand total of:

CD Player with Aux Port and Subzzz under the seats (much like)
Heated Seats
Air Con
Parking Sensors
Xenon Headlights (aftermarket)

Oh and Six Cylinders purring away up front :)

Only gadgets I'd really add are built in Bluetooth Streaming and Heads Up Display, which I had in a hire car 3 years ago and was the single coolest thing I've ever seen. Speed, gear and directions, all visible without taking your eyes off the road. Definitely having that in the replacement.

Yeah but you don't notice stuff.

Honestly, get a phone holder. Google where you are going to, press go. FIN

When you try to pull on a door, but it goes in and the person behind you says "you need to push.."

Fuck, thanks bro! My next attempt woulda been to give it an even firmer pull and after that maybe try and lift it off the hinges from the bottom

Ordered stuff (a lot, tres expensive) from Amazon.

Single order (careful about that). Want single invoice. Not multiple small payments - or I can't reclaim VAT.

Aye it's tried that shit a few times already. Near the Tyne bridge they recently added a no left turn before it, it constantly tries to get me to turn left there.

Ive found that with google Maps if there is a traffic delay it doesn't add that to the "journey time" that it calculates.
So it says you have a journey time of 1 hour but there is a 30 min "wait" in traffic it doesn't say your travel time is 1hr 30.

Unless I'm missing something in the settings somewhere.

Not sure, mine suggests different routes and tells me which one would be quicker, always assumed it would take into account traffic. Been on loads of magical mystery tours around the M25.

Mine does, it shows the route in red if there is a delay, and adds to the time too

Mine shows the route red and displays the delay time on the red part but doesn't add to the total journey time.
When I was in France going skiing there was a ton of traffic. The car sat nav said it would take 6 hours to get there but Google maps said 2 hours journey and the red line said 4 hr delay so not really sure what happened there.

Why can't you reclaim VAT on a less expensive order?

Weird, mine always seems to get the timings ok?

Flat rate vatted. Only invoices above 2 grand can the VAT be claimed back on.

I run an IT business. Any and all IT spend is allowable by HMRC. Gotta keep geeks geeky.

OK, what are the items?

How do they do that cause its all mixed up on the wites so cant guarantee that the leccy you get hasnt come from a coal or gas fired generator rather than a solar panel.

I guess its just they put that much on to the grid to cover your usage. Either way its a misleading statement
