I changed my car last week, out with the Mini Cooper S and in with a '61 plate Seat Leon FR+ I'm really liking it so far. It's not a fast car, but pretty nippy, smoother ride and more room for ferrying my tall daughter and her tall friends around, not to mention a 5th seat. I can also fit a guitar into it without having to fold the back seat down, thus losing another passenger space. It's got more toys than the Mini, auto wipers and lights etc. and a better sounding sound system with DAB radio.

Downside is larger road tax bill, and not as fun handling on the twisty stuff, but that's not a big deal.

Ooh i don't know about not being fast, that FR+ is a lovely little car, is it not on par with the Golf GTI?

Yes, it's pretty much a Golf GTi in a Seat skin. 0-60 is a shade under 7 sec, fairly standard hot hatch territory. It's pretty much my own personal definition but don't think of that as being a fast car. Don't get me wrong, it is a really nice drive and I am really liking it.

What have you just got Edmond?

Stupid competitions on food wrappers.

I can't be arsed to log into your bullshit and give you my details so you can sell them on just to find out I haven't won a thing, piss off. Just put it in the wrapper.

Vastly more expensive to individualise wrappers.

But they are individualised, presumably the codes are unique.

No, its for marketing bullshit and nothing more.

Cheaper to print a randomized code than a winning wrapper

I did like the cash inside walkers did years ago tho that was cool

LOL. Of course its for "marketing bullshit". What, you think competitions are for your benefit?

Code printing is easy and production lines usually have it built in. Winning ticket insertion is expensive, but more importantly, the business case for doing the competition in the first place will be based on sales uplift (competitions don't actually uplift sales that much and are usually regarded as the riskiest part of the promotion) and data capture (which is easy to measure, and cheap to manage). NB. Contrary to popular belief, the majority of FMCG companies won't sell on your details; its not worth it.

Without trying to grill you, like what? I'm curious to see what yours has in comparison to mine :)
I'm not 100% sure, I didn't look at any other ones, but I think that the self leveling xenon headlights, the front parking sensors and the satnav are upgrades. I'm not sure about the auto wipers and auto lights, or the self dimming rear view mirror?

To be quite honest though these things are nice to find but ultimately they're not a deal breaker. I quite like auto wipers, but decent variable intermittent ones are almost as good. The front sensors are useful occasionally, and an annoying pain in the ass at others. Built in satnav is always crap. Expensive to keep up to date, and never as good as a decent TomTom or Garmin at three times the price.

My inbuilt satnav in my vw passat is excellent. Never had any issue with it.

That's good to hear Moriarty, the one in the Seat is the same as the VW one used in similar age cars. What reg is yours?

What I meant was that you generally get more features, lane assist for instance, for a fraction of the price, also the position of the media centre in the Leon means that you need to look a long way from the road to see the map, separate satnavs tend to sit on top of the dash almost in the eyeline. I do get text instructions in the instrument cluster though which helps a bit. I have already had to fork out £45 for an update though, and that's from a dodgy website that might not work, if I have to get an official VW one it'll be over £150! It takes 2 hours to load from the SD card and I've only driven about 25 mins since I put it in :)

I actually miss all the gubbins on the old car, parking sensors, auto lights, wipers etc. More than I thought I would.

Wife's new car (ours, sort of, I only really drive at weekends, binned the 2nd car) has cruise control, and that is it for mod cons.
