I haven't actually slept recently. Normally I know when to quit, but I was itching to prove this a bug. Atm I'm not even sure it's a bug, and using The Other Thing You Can Use also gives me very odd errors when accessing the database. Good results all round tbh :-/

First week after promotion and one of my main staff is leaving ME Region to go back to France, staying in the company but switching roles, such a pain (for me). Pleased for him though as its a good opportunity but still a pain to have to replace him at a key customer.

Now looking for an Account Manager, UAE based with travel (monthly 2-3 days in EU, US 3-4 x per year)

Due to budget cuts several of my teachers have been laid off today. They knew and we knew that it was today, but no one knew who was getting the axe.

My Spanish teacher comes out of her office just as I pass and says in a very low voice "hi Anders. I've just been sacked" and I could see the tears in her eyes. Nothing else to do but give her a big hug and tell her it'll all be fine.

She's a little elderly happy woman, but right then and there she must have shrunk at least a foot. She just felt tiny and her usual happy mood was no where to be seen.

For the whole day the entire staff just seemed to be in zombie mode. Some had clearly been crying. 25% of the teaching staff was laid off today. It is difficult to see how we as a nation will be able to compete internationally in the future when we cut down on our only real resource, which is an educated society

Sales guys in my company drive me nuts. Promising the customer shit that we have no idea how todo. And then getting upset when the data we need from said customer isnt sent to us. So of course its our fault we havent got the reports. Not that we havent been sending shed loads of communication to get the stuff we need.

Typical of most sales guys, promise the world to get the business and get a slap on the back for doing it. Engineers and Program Managers then have to go in and say, "we cant actually give you the world, just a small piece of Namibia". Feel for you as it happens all the time to me as well.

I'm sure we will find someone the pay + allowances are extremely good and the bonus scheme is excellent. UAE is not everyone's ideal place but you can have a decent family life here.
