Not gone, just seriously fucked up my back doing some house clearance in July just after coming back from a biz trip. Was in hospital for 10 days on morphine, Ruptured Disc between L3-L4. Quite an unusual one to according to the neurosurgeon, left a large mass that stretched all the nerve roots so left leg and hip were totally numbed to tough and walking felt like the hamstring had gone. Not to be recommended. Was on some very heavy pain meds for last few weeks, ones that are normally illegal in UAE and really quite good ;), now going through withdrawal process and scaling back the usage. Just had another MRI scan (last Thursday) and the mass has reduced substantially some feeling back in my leg and able to walk around without substantial pain. Lots of painful physiotherapy now and exercise to get the strength back. Back at work now to, so playing catch up and extremely busy.

I'm sure a few certain people will be laughing but I honestly don't give a shit. I did not leave in a huff because a couple of narrow minded people made some negative comments. Too old to get upset at that online shit. :)

Hope you all had a better summer than I did!

:(

Ouch mate!! Why didn't you nominate me for the tickets??? :D

Ouch much worse than my back op. Hope it get better soon

Basically, they try not to operate now for a rupture. They allow up to 3-4 months to see if it will reduce and go back in. That's the longest they will leave it, If it doesn't reduce and stop the nerve issues, they operate. What they told me is that 5 years ago it would have been straight to the operating table but what they have learnt is that it then causes added problems in the discs above and below. With massively increased chances of further herniation's or ruptures. If that happens you end up with the a cage wired into to your vertebrae. Was yours a to sort out a disc bulge or the nerves?

Either way, keep the exercises up, strong core is best way to stop further incidents. Feel for anyone with back pain, so debilitating. Having have had multiple dislocations (knee, shoulder) and various broken bones I can honestly say its been the most painful experience and would not wish it on anyone.

Had to be someone with a tenuous link to a certain airline who is sponsoring it, sorry. I wasn't in a position to organise it, so the others did that.

I had decompression not fusion. I wouldnt want to have fused vertebrae as you say that puts pressure on the others then they can go.

My disk had bulged out and compressed my nerves so i wasnt able to walk far and had numbness in my legs.

Yup. This 100%. It's why I do pilates with a bunch of old women on a Monday night.

Being the right weight is also mondo important. My ankles are basically made of chocolate - had the three main stabilising ligaments replaced in both of them years ago. The best thing I did health wise was get to a proper weight so the strain is taken off them. Every pound makes a difference if you think of the stresses your body is placed under. Used to be crippled by pain and whined like a bitch. Now pain free :)

Similar injury then but disc material (name escapes me) shifted to the left and stretched the nerve cluster out, "Far Lateral Herniation". Not the standard Sciatica causing numbness. I got the feeling in hospital that they wanted to operate straight away, after the first MRI. Then they changed Neurosurgeons on me to a Japanese guy and he seemed to be totally against it. 10 days in hospital, 5 days of total bed rest trying to eat from lying position <25 deg on the head incline was fun, not. I could then walk on frame around the ward every hour, felt like a 90 yr old.

Timing of all this was shite as well due to family being back in the UK. Luckily a mate and his wife were able to help, his wife was a nurse in NZ so knew what to do. No WiFi in the American Hospital either! Not even paid. :)

Feel for anyone who has gone through it or will do.

Great job :)

Yep weight is the main target now along with core strength. Lost 4Kg so far, with another 16 to go though :( Most of the exercises I have to do are pilates based, just a lot of added leg strength ones as well. Amazing how much muscle wastage you from one leg to the other with an injury like this. After 8 weeks just about starting to function normally albeit with the occasional pain killers. Going to try swimming tonight, crawl only and have an upright exercise bike and running machine at home, so no excuses.

Good on the weight loss. 4Kg is not to be sniffed at. Well done.

Crawl only? That directed by your physio I suppose? Swimming is such good exercise. Proper knackering.

I'd advise you to ditch the exercise bike and get yourself an upright-position hybrid bike and get out into the real world, but where you live you'd probably be more at risk of burning to death or passing out from dehydration ;)

Yep, Physio says crawl only. Never found swimming that hard but then I did it competitively for about 15 years. Probably be a total knightmare now though :) The exercise bike is an upright Schwinn, so ok on back (Physio sanctioned).

Yeah, if you cycle on roads here you do it before 6 am and before the roads get any traffic on them. Bike to car death rate here in Dubai is not good. Some well publicised terrible examples of cars ploughing into groups of cyclists. Might try an outdoor once I build up to doing more distance. just need to find an upright bike now :) My son is using both my old bikes now and I would love to take him out to this place:

This fucking dishwater already driving me up the fucking wall and it hasn't even been delivered yet!

Sometimes I disable AdBlock momentarily, in order to be able to watch some vids on the Danish news sites, and then forget to put it back on. I then wander off into the internets to some other site where I maybe DO YOU WANT TO BUY THIS DISHWASHER YOU JUST BOUGHT!?!?!? HOW ABOUT THIS OTHER DISHWASHER YOU DIDNT BUY, BUT LOOKED AT!? PURCHASE FOUR DISHWASHERS RIGHT NOW AND THEY WILL BE ON YOUR DOORSTEP TO-FUCKING-MORROW, YOU IDIOT!! OH, AND BY THE WAY, YOUR WIFE LIKES US ON FACEBOOK, YOU SHIT HEAD, WHY DON'T YOU GIVE US A LIKE TOO!?!? WE HAVE DISHWASHERS!

I already bought a machine.. £450. Can't they do something where they at least, AT LEAST, offer me a different product? One I didn't already purchase? Like "okay, he actually bought it. Wow. Maybe we shouldn't show him the same machine he just bought. How about we show him a nice waffle iron or a laundry machine? He might need that.. Then he'd actually come back as a pleased customer"? Some of you code geeks must be able to do this. Do it and you'll be millionaires, please

I know its annoying isn't it, when I don't turn mine back on I get bombarded with 'Do you want to have this Philipino boy delivered to your area in the next hour' really pisses me off

That is fucking savage. He might think he is just screwing over the HMO's but the poor fuckers with no insurance have just been arse rapped because they "need to make a profit". If the company do not read how he has reacted and do something then they can end up at the front of the firing line come the revolution.

I read a bit more about the company.

Seems that mr Hedge Fund Manager decided he could make more money out of people's bad health.

That's not the fault of capitalism, that's someone just being an evil cunt.

Well it is kind of - as mentioned in the other thread, if it wasn't for capitalism the drug probably wouldn't have been developed in the first place :)

To be fair, your one word comment could have just been "America". HE wouldn't be allowed to do this in the EU because we still have that one word that makes capitalism work "regulation".
I thought the protection on a drug was only twenty two years and after that it could be made generically. Doesnt seem so in this case. Was wondering if anyone know why.

I have seen that he both bought the rights to the drug and picked it up out-of-patent, which are 2 different things.

He makes me Ill.

It's the way he smiles throughout the video and then stops when he tells a blatant lie 'We're doing something very good with the profits, we're putting them back into the patients hands.'

I agree @Bodhi that the pharmaceutical companies have a right to charge high prices for stuff that they invested resources and time into, for a limited time.

Buying the rights to a drug that someone else invented and morally sold at a fair price to then take it over and sell it at an immoral price is immoral. You can't defend this guy.
