You're so right. I'm very very sorry.

MODS! - Can you please close down the tits and ass threads - it's clearly porn and Moriath's fragile little mind is being damaged by adult content.
It clearly states in the coc that tits and arse are ok but anything more isnt.

People who park outside a house, and beep their horn for someone to come out. And then they do it again, and again, and again... If they don't come out after one beep, just call them or something! This counts doubly so late at night or early in the morning.

That's pretty insane. I really hate wearing a helmet.

Although at the price I would hope it is reusable!
It is. In Denmark your insurance pays for the repump. And it is very trustable, @Scouse. First time his went off a friend of his padded him hard on the back cause they hadn't seen each other for some time. He jumped back a couple of steps :p

To all you bike nuts: http://www.hovding.com

This saved my friend from cracking his skull the other day :)

This is my cycle helmet:

I just can't be arsed with cycle helmets any more, unless it's winter and the roads are cold and slippery. The inflatable helmet is a stupid idea, most cycle/car crashes happen at junctions where someone turns across someone else's path. Rear impacts are extremely rare.

Of no use to me then - I jangle and jar down rock drops and across roots - it's like getting constantly punched ;)

It doesn't look that much of a bad idea, it does seem to inflate into the shape of a normal helmet.

I suppose if you fall forward/sidewardsish your hands will naturally reach out anyway.

Statistics are inconclusive as to the efficacy of cycle helmets - which is why they're optional, not a requirement.

But as you're a non-rider of bikes I kinda expect you to feel that way. A lot of non-rider mates and family feel the same way but everyone I know who rides a lot doesn't...

I prefer cyclists who don't wear helmets, it weeds out the idiots faster.

I agree that they arnt compulsery. However. Surely 1% better survival rate is better than 0. Even if it isnt proven. Protecting your head on a tough cpurse would be better than not.

But tbh i never worn one as a kid. But i imagine they work like motor cycle helmets. But i dont think i would wear one.

It just seemed like tom was saying well i wont have an accident. Which everyone thinks u til it happens to them

There's a number of factors at work, including the fact that cyclists with helmets may take more risks, be less aware, be more flustered/hot/bothered than those without helmets on.

More research is needed but the indications are that helmets may cause as many accidents as fatalities they prevent. That's what the current data shows...

Like motor cycle riders take more risks with helmets?

You're A) comparing apples and oranges and B) ignoring what the evidence on the actual subject matter says.

It might feel to you that it's safer - I agree that's actually the "common sense" naturally intuitive idea - but it's not what the evidence shows. I can't really say it any clearer than that.

Edit: It's not the numbers - but this is an interesting discussion point :)

And this slightly less interesting piece, but relevent nonetheless - and there's something for the haters right at the end too ;)

Don't know where you get the idea that it only works from rear impacts?

I didn't say it only "works from rear impacts", but most of their literature shows a car hitting the cyclist from behind. Some of their videos show the crash test dummy falling sideways or forwards but they're very poor examples as unlike a cyclist, the dummy doesn't react to what's happening.

They also have some of the best cycle paths in the world :p

But i agree most of the time the impact will be from the front when some clown pulls out in front of you while on his phone it has happened to me 3 times this summer at the same petrol station, luckily i saw him chatting away and not paying attention so i slowed down so i could stop in time

It was just a suggestion. But saying that helmets are useless or even put the rider in greater danger is nonsense. My friend would have cracked his head right open against the curb, but walked away without a scratch, thanks to the inflatable helmet

And the one time it popped when it wasn't supposed to, was because he hit him quite hard between the shoulder blades right underneath the helmet

The helmet is clearly more for an urban environment, rather than downhill mountain biking. But even you use a helmet then @Scouse, so you are sort of contradicting yourself mate?

You should wear a helmet because regardless of how safe or good a cyclist you are other people on the road are idiots :p

If given the choice of hitting asphalt with a helmet designed to absorb impact or just my skull (or a fancy hat) i know which one i would choose :D

I never ride without a Helmet on. I rode through diesel and went massively arse over tit last week. Shoulder took the majority of the hit But my head did bounce off the floor so for me that makes looking like a tit worth it.

More people die falling down staircases than falling from a bicycle. Nobody ever suggests that people using staircases should wear a helmet. Heck, more people die every year through simple falls than traffic collisions.

The only people who think cyclists should wear helmets are those who think that cycling is dangerous. It is not. You're more likely to die choking on your food than you are banging your head while falling from a bike.

Oh ffs Tom, you know full well what a misrepresentation of the numbers that is. And its actually not true; as an individual, your likelihood of dying on a bike is higher if you ride a bike. Not everyone does that, whereas most of us walk up and down stairs and eat things. Personal odds are not societal odds.
