More people die falling down staircases than falling from a bicycle. Nobody ever suggests that people using staircases should wear a helmet. Heck, more people die every year through simple falls than traffic collisions.

The only people who think cyclists should wear helmets are those who think that cycling is dangerous. It is not. You're more likely to die choking on your food than you are banging your head while falling from a bike.

For me personally, I'd wear a helmet because I like the feeling of wearing a helmet. It's the same reason I wear a helmet skiing, the jury is still out on whether or not they actually make a difference (there's data to suggest that ski helmets have increased the number of head injuries due to over confidence and they also impair hearing).

I just don't like the feeling of going fast without something protecting my head in some way, it's more an enjoyment factor than a safety factor.

Not particularly worried about dying if i crash bike but cuts bruises and other head injuries arent much fun

Its like claiming that you arent going to wear a seatbelt because driving a car is perfectly safe

Im sure it is 99% of the time - until you get whacked or something unexpected happens

Don't think we'll ever get home. Between the immigrants at Calais and the French farmers blocking the roads we are probably stuck. And now it is freezing.

Glad im going via portsmouth. Are the queues just as bad the french side cause we never really hear about them?

We're not due back yet but following them on Twitter which keeps giving updates of 2hrs queue and then waiting for a crossing. at one point they were saying to drive in via Boulogne cos the whole of Calais was blockaded by farmers.

His point being that you can't die from riding a bike unless you ride a bike which is a significantly lower percentage of the population than people who, for example, eat on a regular basis or climb stairs.

Apples and oranges. Dutch vs english cycle provisions and systems.

Dutch cyclists ride on exactly the same kinds of surfaces as British cyclists. And not all Dutch infrastructure is physically separated from the carriageway.

A lot more of the city scape is seperated for cyclists

You would have to get everyone cycling to be able to compare it to those who fall down staires to make a judgement of which is more risky.

More people walk up and down stairs than ride bikes, the analogy is weak.

That reminds me of the "more people die from alcohol than ecstasy, therefore I'll take E four nights a week because I'm more likely to die from alcohol" statistic.

Pyramid schemes.

Got a couple of mates who have totally bought into this 'Organo Gold' healthy coffee bullshit because some gym meatheads they follow on Facebook won't shut the fuck up about it. Now my timeline is engulfed in the stuff and I feel genuinely bad for the suckers who've been grabbed by this utter nonsense.

Yup having a few distant people and a friend that's into it as well, think it's called Vemma. A government inspection is being conducted regarding this company's estalbishment in Sweden; the're suspecting it to be a pyramid scheme (duh). Friend took me on one of these presentations, very brain-washy and focus on a 'whole new lifestyle'. Feel sorry for em as well. Hope they get shut down.

But much, much more than in the UK.

And on the parts that aren't, I'm guessing that the cyclists who those those parts are routinely falling off their bikes and smearing their skulls over the floor?

Actually. IIRC there are zero recorded deaths directly caused by ecstasy.

It's part of the reason the governments scientific advisor on drugs quit - because it wasn't really hurting anyone but the ban itself was making kids turn to more dangerous, yet legal, highs...

Spend 3k on a 65inch touchscreen monitor and a micro PC

Can't get it to work because the supplier didn't realise the PC only has a micro HDMI port and the cable supplied is normal HDMI.

Twats, a further £4 spent at Amazon and have to wait 3 days.

I think we need a discussion thread on drug decriminalisation in the UK.

No we don't.

Liberals - Some drugs that are illegal aren't actually that bad for you.

Potheads - Legalising drugs will make money - look, I'm sympathising with capitalists.

Done.

EDIT - @Job - Black Muslims sell drugs to make suicide bombs.
