I get it outside the UK but it's the same BBC as you as we have a slightly dodgy arrangement to appear as if we're in the UK to Sky. *whistles*

The whole thread has been deleted now by a mod it seems, another guy chipped in who actually worked for the BBC and posted links to prove my point and the 2 guys who were kicking off blocked and reported us for trolling

They were like 12yrs old because I was trying to explain about how the license fee works, they just started slagging us off and throwing their toys out of their prams, it was funny

I can only assume there are watching it outside of the UK via iPlayer. One said he had just watched a Volvo ad on BBC3

You can't watch iPlayer outside the UK (not legally anyway), there's an international subscriber version of the iPlayer for iPads, but I think they've pulled it, and it didn't offer live programme streams anyway. International BBC (BBC World, BBC America etc.) has ads.

Is that the same as BBC Workdwide?

While that probably sounds exciting and full of flair and drinks with supermodels and movie stars, i'd bet it's more like lots of waiting at airports and spending time alone in hotel rooms without seeing the family for two weeks.
I enjoyed going on business trips for work because I got to fly around and see parts of the country I wouldn't otherwise, but it is far from luxurious and quite a pita if you have family.
I spent 16 years going on trips for business that were supposed to be a perk. You see htels and airports. And unless you want to do your job really hungover thats it.

Loses its shine after a while. I did trips to the usa and arpund europe. Wpuldnt recommend it. Airports are satans arsehole.

My business travel these days mostly consists of exciting international travel to....Watford. I did go to Oslo last week though.
we're not allowed to travel anymore (*cough at my level cough*). having poor customer relations is considered less bad than occurring the incidental travel costs of engineers (by the people still allowed to travel (who aren't engineers)).

Travel at my last company *cough* oracle. For the department i was in has also been curtailed. And damn my thumbs for being quicker than my touch screen and making me alter texts and read them back.

Lost my cool with the roommate who banged the door at 7am. I've been calm the whole time this door banging etc been going on, so interesting to see if things change due to "giving a piece of mind" in a not-so-friendly manner.

Problem with arguing about it is that i don't do annoying sh*t around the house(try my best to keep it to a minimum living sounds), so best they can come up with is "Well you do stuff too" and when asked for one example it's repeat infinitum of "Well you do".

Not bragging or anything (honestly, I'm not, flying is boring), but last year I went to Bahrain, Portugal, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Turkey and Argentina. This year the list is about the same. I'm looking forward to doing Canada again, they have some juicy outdoor clothing I want to blow my wages on.

I still like the odd bit of work travel (and its probably going to start going back up in the next 18 months), especially if its somewhere I've not been before, but most of the time I try to minimise the away time these days, and I also try to share it out with my team, who are younger and still find that shit fun (so one's going off to Amsterdam next week and couple more are going to Croatia shortly afterwards). My boss does a brutal amount of travelling, and frankly I don't think its doing him a lot of good.

Its quite telling that I booked my flights last week with KLM; back when I travelled a lot I would have just known that they're now owned by the most incompetent airline in the world (Air France). I didn't know that, and I was punished accordingly.

I follow a pro mountainbiker on FB who travels with Air France. guy's basically a celebrity, he travels with extremely distinctive bags and he has a fairly large following on the social media. despite this, they have managed to lose his kit on several occasions. to compare: my parents flew for over 40 years with companies like Singapore Airlines, and their bags got misplaced once way back in the early 80's..

I think KLM are still decent, in spite of their owner (although time will tell). Air France are just a nightmare for losing baggage.

Last year I got 700 Euro compensation from Air France for causing my flight to be delayed by about 6 hours. They initially claimed that an aircraft breakdown was an "extraordinary incident" that required no compensation. My view was that the "extraordinary incident" would not have occurred if they'd maintained their aircraft properly. They paid up quickly enough.

This @Hawkwind you could always quit, or are you a slave to the wage? ;)

Somewhat true and I almost laughed at the last offer that I received from UK (London) based company. The money is decent but living here is fucking expensive! But what would people call decent these days? I am out of touch with UK/EU salaries. I do know that a job I used to do 15 years ago at 38K now pays 55K GBP. I think everyone gets used to what they earn. From my perspective we don't live a lavish lifestyle at all here but to some it might seem completely like that.

My problem right now is that all the airlines have gone connectivity mad. The travel for these types of bid meetings is pretty boring. Airport-Hotel-Customer-Hotel-Airport and never more than 48h in a location .I've prepared 10 presentations and pitched 8 of them in the last 5 weeks. With all the feedback post meeting I have not had a weekend for a month. Two of those have been announced as wins, two more want price reductions (BAFO) and the rest are still pending with lots of questions to answer.

I'm here until my son finishes his GCSE (summer 2016) then a big decision on his A-Levels, UK or stay here. Ideally UK but that depends on what I do job wise. My plan was to put in the grind now and then move to SoCal 2016/2017 but they just threw a spanner in the works last week by dangling a Director post so lots of decisions to make.....such is life.

Good little anecdote about that - So Air France announce a while back that their facility at Toulouse Airport was doubling in size, what they failed to mention in the press release was that the building that actually increased that capacity was for lost baggage!

It is why they are known in the industry as Air Chance!

Prior to last week the only airline that had ever lost my bags were Air France. Now KLM. Coincidence? I think not. They also just had that Air France brand of chaos at the gate that I can't remember experiencing since the last time I flew out of Russia with Aeroflot. Say what you like about British and Irish airlines, people queue up properly.

I love flying out of helsinki the airport is bug enough to have good routes but small enough there are rarely queues (at all)

Only downside is the massive focus on the transfer flights to asia means the food places are ludicrously expensive (and not even a cheapo burger joint anywhere in airport)

Worst airport experience was at JFK, 3 hours of queuing to get to passport control in a poorly ventilated room with thousands of people pushing and shoving and no bathrooms in sight

Agree, I queued on that downramp for over 2 hours, there are no seats either. There is 1 toilet half way down but when you're on your own you can't use it as you would have to go to the back of the queue when you come out. Saying that though, I have been off the plane and in the taxi within 25mins before

The new entry machines they have at most US airports has improved things a lot. But it only works after you have been through the system once it became active - around March this year. NY JFK is the pits though, did it once and never again.

Didn't think JFK was that bad tbh, always found LAX to be worse. Not really a fan of American airports in general though.

Both LAX and JFK are toilets. Agree on the above re immigration at JFK, terribly managed, stupid ramp, took nearly two hours. By that point I was starting to feel like I wasn't that bothered about getting into 'murica.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away ..... when you were in your 20s @Scouse ..... you'd likely have had enough energy to spend a full day doing things, then be full of energy for evening activities (pub then club). If you're like me though, as you've gotten older, you can't last until 3am any more and quite frankly you want to sack it by midnight because of being too tired
I'm a bit peaky today - spent yesterday morning doing things in Belfast then started drinking at 1pm and finished around 5am. No disco nap needed. :)

I have had this stuck in my head all day today tho:
