When I rename a connector shape in Visio, Visio moves the shape slightly. Having really finely aligned connectors becomes impossible, because I have to realign them every so often.

*waits for @MYstIC G to say "but Teedles, you are obv a spanner, because 8 layers deep in the options menu of a hidden feature that is only active in certain beta versions of Visio, there is a configuration item that allows you to change this on a shape-by-shape basis. Ofc, you'll have to do this 8 zillion times, but it's there so MS Office can't be at fault" *

It's only you that struggles with them isn't it? :(
Not just Teedles, I had MS Office 360 misfire at the weekend. Any documents generated were corrupted and then I got odd message about the subscription being invalid. Went on to the office site, subs had only just been paid a month previous. Uninstall and re-install everything ok again. They still have not totally fixed all the issues of importing Access data into excel and vice versa. Occasional App crashes on both sides. 360 has improved a lot but not quite there yet.

Office has been crap for a few years now. I switched back to office 2010 as 13 had far too many problems and various functions inexplicably removed.

I only use 13 for the basic stuff so I don't have a problem with it, but there is a lot of stuff on there that would probably confuse the fuck out of me if I went into it

To be fair though, all of @TdC's problems are blatant incompetence on his part rather than Office actually doing anything wrong. :)

in an aside, I was talking about my MS Word rage to the lecturer who's handling my finals, and he was like " oh, Word does that all the time! here's how you fix it: blah blah blaaah"

I *already know* how to fix it, I just don't want it to happen in the first place. HOW HARD CAN THAT BE

In all honesty i agree with this, to a degree. In games design i atleast try to follow the "if they don't get it, design flaw" mantra.

Ofcourse some things can't be explained any more clearly without catering to silly people.

heh, obv I mean that to an extent one has to use their brains. one should, for example, be allowed to edit or delete something in to complete destruction if it makes sense to do so, but if something is going to break because of a user action, then your shit is broken, so either fix it or remove it.

My awesome software design SVG diagrams don't fit on a printed page. Some of them are A3+ sized. I can already hear the assessors in my head: "I can't read your diagram, so it must be incorrect". Yes kids, my school has lecturers in the IT faculty who demand printed documents.

Seriously?

Our department demands everything in electronic form, and we don't print anything (aside from Dissertations ofc) and you get brownie points if you bring tablets to seminars and not printing everything out.

This is the department that has a lecturer who spent 10 minutes infront of 200 people searching stuff in the chrome search bar and getting frustrated because he was getting bing results.

I have a friend who does some sort of management training and he hates people having any tablets or laptops. He always insists on printing out packs for everybody, he thinks it encourages a better learning environment.

our lecturers really don't give a shit. in fact, over the past semesters they even made us use some pretty dodgy software because they'd only accept things in a certain format, etc. they were particularly harsh on people using Macs, who naturally were usually the loudest protesters against the million year old wintel-only software we were occasionally forced to use.

funnily enough, though it pains me to say it because the fucker cost me my cum-laude, the beardy C programmer lecturer was the most easy guy when it came to turning shit in: he provided a linux vm that ran in all the systems, and the code had to run and be saved in the image along with the designs and whatnot. The image included an IDE, and there was a user that the student could log in to, etc etc. To turn it in at the end of the semester, you uploaded it to the geezer's server and that was that.

that guy was a hardass, but he was the only lecturer who ever gave us something to work with.

Isn't that usually the way it goes; the stricter the teacher the better they seem to be.

Atleast in my experience it's been that way.

Ofcourse i only appreciated it years later, as one does.

Trying to explain the difference between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland to a new starter. To their amazement the republic is not part of the UK...!

Its almost like the last 100 years+ didn't happen.

Oh but i thought FH reflects the current situation in GB/UK/what not pretty well, heh..

What i heard the Finnish / UK relations weren't that good for a while but it seemed to have stabilized.

On a sidenote: Something about Brittish/Irish chicks gets me going. I've gotten tired of the blonde Swedish types. Gotta have to pay a visit in London soon

They're foreign.

Birds from "different" are generally hornier than birds from not. Genetically IMO.
