TV. Agreed to watch The walking dead with wife. Constant adverts for shit I have no interest in and will never buy. What's the point in ruining the To program? Officially the last time I ever watch a scheduled drama show.
On a commercial channel. Would watch a decent one on bbc where's there are no ads

You probably need glasses or more lazering later on as even though you had lazer done. Your eyes still change after it.

If you're short-sighted and have a stable prescription, lasik will fix the short-sightedness problem for good in most cases. Problem is that as you get older most people go long-sighted anyway. I got lasered about 10 years ago and I reckon I've got another 2-3 years before I might need reading glasses (I'm starting to get issues with reading in bad light which I never used to have), but my distance vision is still perfect.

I'm just beginning to go long sighted now. Beginning to notice reading small text close up is a bit of a strain. Don't suppose lasering will fix that and certainly not permanently.

Still, my eyesight is a darn sight better than most people I know so I'm not too bothered :)

I wear bi focal specs but usually mono vision contacts. Reading in one eye and long distance in the other.

Don't think that's a problem for lasers. They just do each eye differently?

Did I mention lasers? IN YOUR FACE??!

:)

No she saying she doesn't wear varifocal contacts. Instead having one eye for far and one for near vision. Not that she requires different lazer for each eye.

Gah.

I took a year out when I had my ankles rebuilt to rehabilitate myself. I was overweight and couldn't do running sports and the like so I hit the bike. Lost weight. Hey presto! Thought I'd go back into contracting.

Then mum fell ill. So I took another year to look after her. Hit me a bit financially, but wtf eh? - only one mum even if she is a cunt. (She never appreciated it).

Anyway, I got a contract, paid off my debts. (Checked my credit rating this morning - it's excellent - 999 out of 999!!!). A house has come up that I want to buy-to-let (maybe even two) - I rent my current house out (mortgage already paid) I've zero outgoings at all, so the rental income would on my first house would cover the mortgage on a single house - which would then get rented anyway (and cover it's own mortgage) - and with three rented out I'd make enough to cover the two mortgages and an extra whole mortgage payment if I don't earn a penny.

Sitting pretty, wouldn't you think, especially since I'm now back earning - and could easily cover two mortgages with sponders to spare if the houses weren't rented out.

Apparently not. A company that specialises in mortgages for contractors say those two years out mean that nobody would touch me with a shitty stick.

Dreams* = ruined :(

*and my cunning plan to provide for my retirement...

Contracting has its downsides on that level. Shame when you make more money when you do work so cover yourself for the times you don't

It's a fucking killer. With my current house rented out they could lend me the money and get it back if I didn't earn a thing. And what's pissing me off most is that I'm trying to do the right thing and provide for my future so I don't end up sponging off the state :(

Less buy to let people would help the state by driving down house prices, so think of it as a good thing.

If it's done via systemic change then I'd agree with you wholeheartedly. I'm all for affordable housing for the less well off. If that meant buy-to-let was deemed unacceptable then I'd accept it and find an alternative means of being financially self-sufficient.

However, as the system stands at the moment it's penalising someone who took time off to look after his health and an ill relative, whilst foreign investors and the already-wealthy can continue to drive up prices.

So, without that systemic change, which won't happen because rich people run the country, there's no good way to look at this. It's just another way that the "little man" is being held back from helping himself...

Which bit of the above is funny @Raven?

You really do want me to put myself on some sort of stupid financial footing compared to everyone else, rather than simply play by the rules we're set don't you?

I don't care what you do, so long as you don't bitch and moan about other people doing it.

I wasn't. I was responding to your moronic post that my tricky financial situation should be thought of as a good thing.

I was taking the piss, ofc it isn't.

Could have missed that. I'd not eaten a thing since Sunday night (an experiement) and I'd been out on a moderately strenuous bike ride. Was moderately hypoglycemic when I got back in (@old.Tohtori could explain it better than me) and was really stupid.

Mate of mine started laughing at me about halfway through the ride when I developed slurred speech (said I sounded like I'd had about four or five pints) and was talking slowly. That's when I decided to call a halt to the experiment and eat a banana.

Just off downstairs to make myself a cup of darjeeling and honey. Never tried the combo before but I don't want my blood sugar to crash in the night so I wake up with a headache :)

.

You need to talk directly to your bank. And by that I mean bank manager. All banks have a review process and don't have to go by the points scored. You present it to them like a business (describe what you've just described above basically). We got our current mortgage even though I was a couple of weeks into a new job and on probation; normally that's an instant "no" for at least six months, but the bank manager does have discretion (I had to get all kinds of supporting documentation, e.g. been headhunted etc).

Seems odd to me Scouse, you have the collateral of the first property and income from it. they should not base eligibility solely on your contract work status. I would find a decent mortgage consultant. One that will look outside the majors and shop around for you.

Two things that haven't happened yet that I already feel annoyed about:

- taking my viewing thigny into work tomorrow to watch the solar eclipse and my colleagues insisting for a look and then getting shitty with me when I say no
- the Daily Mail's inevitable articles of people getting damaged eyesight with the usual headline of something like "IMMIGRANT MUSLIM NEWSAGENTS SELL FAULTY SOLAR VIEWING GLASSES CAUSING POLISH MAN'S EYE DAMAGE - AND YOUR TAXES ARE PAYING FOR HIS EYE OPERATION"

I was 'this' close to dumping her (knocking her out).

2) it will be cloudy
3) I'll be hungover. Fuck looking at the sun!

He was a moron who didn't eat for days and bloodsugar went low(derp). Makes you seem "drunk". Not really a problem regular folk with half a brain need to worry.
Learned something very interesting about my limits. Was fine. Meh :)
