I work in HR, I'm not just a bean counter..... In the uk women take time off work sick when the kids are sick due to the wage gap up to 20%.... It's natural that the woman will stay at home especially if there is no pay. In Sweden however there is VAB and the influence on pay gap is more obvious as women take more VAB than men although this mechanism is also abused by both sexes as you normally don't get paid anything for the first full day you are sick. @Raven please don't make sweeping statements without considering the whys.... From a personal point of view I generally survive till the weekend.. However in Sweden if you do have a slight fever or winter vomiting you must stay at home.... This does not mean however you are unable to work. We have 10 staff members on 1st day reporting, ie they need a doctors note for every sick day... None are women

I either work halfarsed(thinky job) for a week, or stay out for 2 days and work at full capacity the rest 3.

Though on that note, random annoying thing; 1st day reporting. Nothing like having to get up from bed in a 39C fever to walk 2 miles to the doctor, for the doctor to say "yeah you're sick, have a piece of paper" and thanks to that trip the sickleave goes from 1 to 3.

Ofcourse they have "explanations", but it's just trying to discourage people faking being sick. Which is bullsh*t in itself. You have bigger issues if people want to fake sickness to stay out of your workplace.

I still love mine. That's why she's been taken out for a meal, dropped at her show, being picked up later and tomorrow she'll be driven home by me, and I'll get on my bike, ride to the train station and come home at my own expense and the ruination of a weekend - when I advised her to get the train in the first place because I could see this happening.
