my DBA's just googling the Oracle error and closing my service request as 'application fuck-up' rather than looking IN the database and telling me what is going wrong like they're supposed to.

Don't get me started on support issues today. So many incompetent twats, so little time to beat them to death with a cricket bat.

Oh I have that too. My problem is the guy who is the go-between for our staff and the IT consultants has zero idea how our staff use the software and zero idea how we operate as a business. More often than not everything goes wrong.

It basically goes like this. He asks me to test new features, I tell him they don't work and why, he ignores my advice and then things go wrong, in the exact same way I say they will.

We literally have service coordinators ready to walk out now because it has been going on for months and they can't do their jobs properly due to system issues. Doesn't help that a company is moving into the place next door doing pretty much the same thing but offering 5k more.

Stepping up my job search now because this ship is a sinking.

Edit.

Pro tip, if anyone is ever in IT procurement, avoid Microsoft AX like the plague it is possibly the worst excuse for a CRM/Service management system ever.

One of our customers have a Dutch Parent company who enforce loads of control over the servers and have no interest in fixing anything. You have to submit tickets on this shitty portal and you always get a reply from a first line mong first. After hours of explaining that you need x done and his suggestion is worthless he escalates it. As far as I can tell the 2nd and 3rd line techs read the first line of the call only and not the 14 pages of back and forth. So they send a reply along the lines of "restart the print service" and then close the fucking call so you have to go through the whole process of first line mongs again. This is frustrating when the subject is "Print Spooler stuck, user does not have permission to restart".

Well it's fair, if you're going to remove stuff then apply the ruleset to all.

Not that i care about the context of this particular issue, but fair rules should apply :p

Grandad rant;

Just went to Tesco to buy some teak oil, which they sold before, but now they don't, and I can see why, the used to have these massive shelves that had everything you needed, now they've put new ones in that you can see over, they're that small.

They have a tiny little part for paint now, once they used to have a massive shelving unit, now either the people who are redesigning all this are stupid and don't understand that when you want stuff like that, you want it immediately, because the staff response was 'oh, we can order it, and get it for friday, or you can travel like 5-6 miles and get some from the bigger store' - No, I want it now.

Or the people redesigning it are doing in the PoV that DIY stuff gives little profit.

Every single piece of shelf space in a supermarket is measured on a revenue per square foot (actually per square cm) basis, driven by the price and number of times the stock turns. Normally Tesco would range garden DIY products from May to September and then put something else in that sells better at other times of year, so if you were finding teak oil in the winter, someone probably fucked up.

If you want to actually find DIY stuff at all times of year, go to a specialist.

should have written better code.

normally I would totes agree...however: there is no code! this app has been given to us as-is by the vendor. it's worked perfectly for 5 years, being used once a month to deliver a report from a reporting database also delivered by the vendor. nothing has been changed about it in any way. you don't have to believe me but it's true :)

also: what DaGaffer said :-P
