Get real £350 maybe :)

Well, I'm comparing it to launch prices of €599 and £425, so £300 isn't entirely out of the question :)

Hmm... They obivously want a clear difference between the 80gb version and this new one, lets face it not many people would buy the 80gb version is the 60gb was available and a £100 cheaper. harddrives are not expensive, I still feel £300 will be to much. They will be pitching their "low end" ps3 against the high end 360.

Maybe, but people are stupid. Loads have already bought it at £425 and then £400, so when people see it at £300 they'll instantly think wow, look how cheap it is now!!

OTOH, joe public doesnt know what the fuck a gigabyte really is. They'll be all like, man, I want 60 fucking gigabytes! What's this 40Gb shit?

Not to mention the proper online system that has actual content.

I've played two PS3 games online with dedicated server farms. How many times has a 360 owner played on a dedicated server? :)

Apples and oranges.

Well. I'll buy the PS3 when there's a game I want to play on it. I don't care if the price is £450 if that's how much it is. Obviously if it's cheaper, then good for me.

Fucking cheapskates.

For most 360 fans it isn't even really a price issue. They're willing to pay 30 quid a year for XBL for who knows how many years, so it doesn't exactly work out cheaper.

Where do you keep getting £500 plus from you can just spend under £400 online and get 2 exclusive games free.

But your right im sure people would rather spend there money blindly buying a 360 and Halo 3 just to find out they have been mugged off with a tarted up Halo 2 thats a much better idea :)

Ok just so i can completely rip you i'll tot it all up for you eh? via Gameplay so no making up silly prices.

I don't want some silly package with 2 pre picked games but seeing as RFOM looks pretty good its not that bad but when i pick the games i really want then it matches pretty much £500

So lets get down to it.

PS3 + 2 games RFOM+F1 £424.99

Warhawk £32.99

Heavenly Sword £32.99

HDMI cable (gameplay made) 12.99

Total of £498.96

Think i'll have to pay for postage aswell so thats £2 i don't know if i will or not thou so pretty much £500.

Minus 13 quid for the HDMI cable as play.com does the same deal but with an HDMI cable included. So yes, you can spend 500 quid, but you get 4 games with it. No one's saying the console is cheap, but you do make up a lot of bollocks Aada :)

The main thing stopping me buying a PS3 is the fact there aren't any games I want for it right now, and perhaps more bizarrely, it's not region free as regards playing DVD movies (at least from what i've read anyhow).

Apples and oranges.

For all the subs fees they recieve, MS should really do something like this - or allow the devs to do it themselves.

And they should cut all the purchasing bollocks for any decent online content, maps etc. - its shooting themselves in the foot. They'd make more off more customers if they weren't being such money-grabbing gits and could use all the masses of free d/lable content as another advertising tag-line. Paying for the arcade stuff I understand, but new maps? fo.

Sony do not do region free, remember their dvd players required hardware modding to make the region free. Nothing so simple as an unlock code or new firmware with sony.

Too Easy

360 Elite £299.99
Spare Controler £32.99
Play and Charge Kit £14.99
4 Games £39.99 each

So far thats £507.93 I use Play so delivery is free!

I could go and add XBox live subscription and a HD DVD drive too but lets not.

Unfortunatly i think the region protection won allot of companys over to blu ray not HD DVD so unless its hacked i dont think the PS3 will ever be multiregion

If you want to play that stupid game... 299 plus a free game or bundle offer of some kind in most places... new game as well, my elite came with bioshock free. ps3 offers 2 launch titles, all the 360 launch titles are now classics so between 19.99 and 24.99. One more full price game. 360 does work out cheaper, and until sony drop the price I do not think it will get the sales it needs. Not the fanbois or techno freaks, but joe average flipping a coin between the next gen consoles.

Console diehards will never care about a price drop, it is a console penis thing so Sony in terms of marketing won't factor in offending early adopters of the PS3 when it comes to considering a price drop.

Also Ch3tan is right, the sheer price of the PS3 just makes it a no go for a lot of people and while you can justify the price by the sheer combination of parts, esp when you factor in the individual costs of the various parts, the fact is one of the most expensive parts(Blu-Ray drive) is currently useless for a lot of people.

The other big issue affecting the middle of the road diehards is the games, well to be honest there really isn't much that jumps out from the shelf at you and to often the console manufacturers fail to learn the lesson of making sure you have some quality games at release.

You could also factor in external issues like credit issues. As it standards the PS3 is at such a price that in the UK it has to be considered along the lines of a major purchase which in times past you might of used some form of credit to buy it, even before recent bank troubles this form of payment dried up some time ago.

I wouldn't question for one second that the PS3 will be a success but at the moment it is off to a slow start but then I reckon Sony probably predicted that it would be a slow seller, although I don't think any console manufacturer expected Nintendo to do so well.

Some one made a ps3 cost £500 i said thats too easy and did the same to a 360. I know the 360 works out cheaper a 360 fanboi makes out you need to spend £500 and i can do that too. Its easy to make either machine look expensive all i have to say is i need a HD DVD drive and 5 years xbox live plus i want 4 of the latest £40 games not old classics.

And also alot of other shops let you pick your bundel games with the PS3 as well. My mate found a website where he got the PS3, 3 games (he picked which) the extra controler and a hdmi lead for £425

It says the cheaper model loses backwards compatibility but I was under the impression that the European version didn't have *proper* backwards compatibility, just did it through emulation. If that's the case, isn't removing it a pointless gesture?

Basically:

First PS3 (USA/Japan) had the CPU and GPU from PS2
2nd PS3 (EURO & 80Gb) had only the GPU from the PS2, so the CPU was being emulated.
3rd PS3 I imagine has no PS2 hardware inside at all.

I've only played one PS2 game on my PS3 (God of War 2 for 576p mode), so I think it's a good move if it makes the console 'affordable'

It may well be a good move, but it still doesn't have any games that justify me purchasing one and if i want a blu ray player then i'll but a super blu player.

I think he meant it is removing the cost argument from the machine you will never convice some one to buy a machine unless they want a game. But for people who want one knocking 1/3 off the price is a good move

well both systems have virtually the same graphical punch yet one comes as a budget version and one comes as a top of the range version, really rather simple i would have thought.

Maybe another £50 off, with the same spec as the full priced one and i could be tempted but why on earth would anyone want to buy a crapped out version of a failing console for the same price as a top of the range version of the competition, competition that has more games out and more games coming out?

As i have said before PS3 had so much potential but Sony took the easy route, trying to sell a console on the promise of a hand full of (what maybe) decent games coming out in 2008 and its brand.

Crapped out version? 'cos it doesn't play PS2 games and has 20 (!!!!!!!!!!) less gigs of storage? Oh and only 2 USB ports? lol, I'm sure you'll really miss those 2 ports like crazy.

WHAT?????????????

We don't know hardly anything about Microsoft's 2008 plans, if they even have any. There's no way you can say more quality stuff is coming for 360 unless you're telling lies.
