The ps3 slim line and price cut that came with it really boosted sales. I know 5 people that bought a ps3 because of the slim line launch. 3 of those were just because they wanted a BD player and that worked out to be the best option.

BD is becoming more popular, more people are getting HD tv's and this is where Sony are making the sales.

Indeed, I'd essentially decided that after they aborted the specs promised with the specs delivered, I'd wait for the slim. Now I'm still waiting as the price is gonna go down again. My 360 has served me well, my Wii was a wasted purchase that gathers dust and a PS3 if purchased will be a Blueray player (why BD btw C, surely BR?) / media player.

Nope it's BD for bluray disc.

You will find that the ps3 is a very good media device, if they improve the gaming side of it then it will dominate. I love my 360 for games, but I know the ps3 will be in my home set-up for longer. MS's next console will come around a few years before the ps4 at this rate.

i will eventually get a PS3 but i think i win there rather than all the PS3 fanbois sitting by the side saying one day we will be better. While they have been saying that ive enjoyed many great years with my 360 and will enjoy more regardless of what console shines in 2 years time

You've a big assumption that the people saying these things are fanbois. Quite a few people here own multiple consoles and can form an opinion unbiased by emotions towards a particular company. There are a few exceptions on this forum, aada, bodhi and plightstar seem almost fanatical when it comes to discussing their consoles.

Did you ever think those people that bought the ps3 instead of a 360 might have simply made a choice based on the games available or the technical aspects of the machine. They don't care if it does better than the 360 as long as it does what they want?

Too much dick waving when it comes to discussing consoles on FH, no one can actually accept criticism of something they like.

Believe me there are far worse places than FH for fanboiism. At least this place you lot hate everything and not just other consoles

I dont think its a bad thing at all that im not a complete cynic and enjoy the things i have. I guess i've always been a glass half full guy. Instead of pausing every scene of a movie to check for consistances etc.

I bought it because they ended up releasing it at a reasonable price (on the PC anyway) Was too short and the multiplayer is terrible. Actually enjoyed the solo game for the short time it lasted and playing through the spec-ops missions at the moment, some of them are quite good and a decent challenge.

Spec ops are great fun, i just unlocked Delta now. Tho loving the MP. Its alot more fun playing with set groups, means you know who's doing what and not having to deal with randoms

Personally i think my ps3 has been better than an xbox since i bought it several years ago.

Same but free online (not had any lag issues that live would cure) Played metal gear solid, gran turismo and uncharted 2 and the only xbox exclusive i couldnt buy was GoW which i completed in coop with my housemate.

And i get to watch Planet Earth and Band of Brothers in bluray whenever i want

I always found it interesting that you pay for live and yet it uses P2P rather than dedicated servers. Seems like a con to me.

Wasn't the gold subscription something that was bolted on late into the development of live as a way to increase revenue? I don't have any citation for that but it's something I seem to remember reading about yonks ago.

The original Xbox live was pay too, so i dont think it was a last minute thing

May have been that the multiplayer functionality was something that would have been available to xbox live silver members until something changed (I dunno, maybe the someone high up realised there wasn't much of a benefit or inclination by upgrading to gold) and was then moved to require a gold membership. Hrm.

Either way, it still looks like it's a bit of a rip-off. Netflix isn't available in the UK, Sky player requires an existing subscription and multiplayer gaming is all peer to peer. I can't see the justification for the charge. I got a 1month live card with my x360 repair, I'll have to give it another try and see if it's as God awful as I remember.

I don't know how they get away with charging for online gaming, but it's not something I'm ever going to pay for. If Sony try the same thing, I'll no longer buy Sony.
