Q. Will people get their items/MLXP/EXP/gold back?
A. If we don't roll back (which we are fighting for trust me .. roll back is the last resort) yes off course everybody will get back as much as we can return. We always said we would only return items if they were lost due to a problem on our side. And now that we have a problem that makes items/MLXP/EXP/gold dissapear we will NOT back out of this promise.

Again ... we're all working very hard to avoid a rollback

next Q :)

Q. If you rollback do you have a date + time of the last know good Config (so that players know how long the rollback will be hours/days/weeks?)

Q. Will GoA/Mythic be working on this over the weekend or will we have to wait till monday for work to resume :)

Why don`t GOA make a macro for such incidents
One whereby the GM`s only have to hit a daft key and a news bulletin is put on the page?
Can inform us all then at the touch of a button without having to type things out edit them etc
They only need to make a list of the most frequent events and give replies for each one
Like time limit on when it will be back online
They have one ingame that tell us when the servers are going down
They also have web displays that from ingame we can choose to show our stats etc
So the macro`d way would work fine for problems that are occuring

Ofc we`d still have whiners nm what info is put up
But a macro`d message is better then no message at all

hope theres no roleback as tbh if i have to restart again but with no cash, then i may aswell just go join rest the people on new us servers :( wich would realy suck as i grown fond of guild i met on alb

Hate to say it but Roleback is pretty much garanteed, think about it how much work will GoA save by roleback rather than trying give back any items lost or levs lost in this accident...

Far easier say sorry but we rolledback and servers up, than invest time restoring all stuff people lost.......

be interesting to see though if they role back enough days that my alb toon vanishes but my hib toons reapear.

But when they rollback, several people will lose items and levels aswell. My mate leveled his NS from 40 to 45 yesterday, if they rollback he'll lose all his lvl's instead of th dagger he lost 'cause of the bug. :(

Minor update:

- Housing crashes and related problems on Excalibur are NOT caused by the same issue as Prydwen (imagine our relieve). They're annoying none the less and are being looked into obviously.

- We have found the cause of the problem on Prydwen and are now searching for a way to fix it. This is quite significant as so far we just seemed to be digging trough the things caused by it without finding the root of the problem.

No eta yet. Sorry. And no response to questions about rollback I won't get into "what if" questions any deeper then I have already.

same here GM told me was safe to go ahead level (took screeny) so i bit my tongue and redid the 2 levs of the 2.5 ii had just lost, but now looks like i wasted my time anyway...

Fact is they will get more griefe and work keeping server down and restoring all lost exp/levels/items, than reolling back server and just opening it. Will just be tough luck on those who lost out, but those who didnt will far out voice the loosers with there "GAmes back up Yay"

Just needed to reply to this.

We will NEVER rollback to save work or because it's "easier". If we rollback it will be because we see no other way to ensure the complete fix of a problem.

ROLLBACK = LAST RESORT ... not easy fix ...

If we thought that way we would have rolled back yesterday right after bringing the server down. Between then and now we've basicly been trying to find a way to solve this WITHOUT a rollback.

Before the server went down we already began returning items/xp etc to people and if we don't roll back we will continue to do this.

I always thought it would be a good idea for developers to share their problems.. like have a forum somewhere where they can post details so that the entire community could look at it. Theres bound to be a few tech people within the community that can throw some extra light on it.. hell even idiots occasionally have a flash of genius. Just make the problem "community property". They want it fixed just as badly as you do.

And ours, had visions of having to reopen accounts on some other games to cover the bank holiday weekend :)

If it was open source maybe, then there is the question of intellectual property rights, plus any code that was shared could be used to find exploits and vulnerabilities.

its a two edged sword

i didnt mean share the code etc.. but maybe just a breif synopsis of what the known issues are, what any links are.. where the gaps are etc, then the entire community could have a crack at it. I know they keep us slightly updated with whats going on, but just a bit more info (not enough to comprimise the code). would be helpful

tbh im just bored and want something to do :<

Thanks alot for the info here...

Thanks alot for taking the time to inform people here...Im pretty sure that its quite a big deal to start info on forums since its not a 1 way channel.

And as a comment to some other things here:

1. As an official serious company 99% of all companies wount release official notes/comments without the proofreading/commandmaking chain having their go at every single letter. That means that to get around the bureaucracy of the corporation and speeding up the process, it takes 1 person who takes a personal responsablity outside the company for the information. (And that adds ALOT to that persons workload since it will not only be a 1 way info street). So more power too you Xalin for taking that responsability!:)

2. As Xalin already said...if GOA wanted to take the easy way out it would have taken them less than 20 minutes (I guess!:) to just bring in the backup and run an older working version. What takes time (and probably is costing them ALOT of money) is to make sure that we get our full moneys worth and dont have to loose playing time because of a roll back. (Ofc it still might come to that...but apparently they are working hard not to have to resort to that)

3. Conserning fixing the problem while its still there. Since I dont know exactly what they are looking at I can only say this. Normally when you are working with a server that starts to do funky stuff like corrupting save files etc. You must shut the server down while you work or you will just keep getting more and more corrupt files leaving you with a huge workload afterwards or it might not even be possible to fix allt he corrupt files etc.

Apparently they tried to work with a running version at first but then noticed that the problem kept getting worse and instead of waiting till it was so big that it couldnt be handled any more they choose to turn the server off. Ofc thats annoying for us but it has to be better than getting a certain total roll back or even loss of files etc.

Thats just my 2 cents worth...thanks for the info agian Xalin...it helps keeping us alot more satisfied to see that you care about our questions and worries!:)

Maybe you dont want to publicly tell everyone you account share, just in case a GM is looking this way, and is pissed off with all the work they have to do on Prydwen :eek7:

Look at the begining of threads: I had two questions, one about ID created at login, since if there is any bug related to that ID that can create numerous problems (this true to all servers using such IDs) and an identified occurance of a such bug can be a linked event. The other is with changed database format for loc and various IDs can cause pretty much similar problems :)

There is a huge log, and an even bigger source code, and thousand pages worth of documentation, if you understand how such servers and services can work and observed anything that might be related to it, you can ask here, and hope Xalin and co relays the question to Mythic, or if you can contact Mythic people you can ask them directly :)

About rollback: Some thinks it is an easy solution, but say, you have an undiscovered bug at point 1, make a backup at point 2, some visible problem appears at point 3 because of the hidden problem from point 1, you add a temporary fix, get a working version, in a few days new backup at point 4, you get a LOT of serious problems at point 5 as result of problem 1 and inproper treatment of problem at point 3. Will rolling back to last known working state (point 4) solve anything? Guess not.
