With the results coming from Villa and Everton we did not really need to win. I think thats why it looked more like a fun game from us. I do not think the 1st goal wass offside the keeper should have gone for the ball and if it got deflected then off side sure. I think we are now 3 points 3 points for sealing 3rd and thats if Villa win so the Man U Chel$ki games may have players rested sorry Liverpool.

Give it a rest and talk about football?

Arsenal looked very dangerous today -but they also looked vunerable.

As a united fan I am not worried by what I saw from Arsenal today, they have more defensive problems than us -Silvestre went off today as well, the heartbeat of their attacking play is Arshavin right now, he is at the center of everything good you do. He isn't playing :)

soze, that first goal was offside. There is no way bendtner could be considered onside, he was interfering with play by trying to attack the ball -it was a factor in how much of the ball the keeper could see and where he thought it might go. Bad decision, but I still think you would have won the match. Would be hard on boro if they need goal difference at the end of the season though!

If you look at Nicolarse he was not going for the ball he had made his run and saw he had fucked up and just carreid on. I would not have been upset had it been ruled out but im not sure what the offside rule is now and if he was not active bla bla bla. So as Arsenal i say not offside but i can see why it would of beed given.

6pts from chelsea, not a bad end of season for us tbh.

/edit looks like blackburn could be saving themselves today, 1-0 just before half time whistle.

Hope blackburn stay up, Allardyce is a good manager and needs time to repair the club. They really did suffer when Hughes left. Looks like 2 big teams in Boro and Newcastle will go down, do not really want to see 3 go down!

He's a miserable **** who is not a 'good' manager.. end of.

Sandwell can still pull off the great escape also..... must be because we are up already they now have the motivation to stay up hah.

The rule basically works round "active" and "affecting play".

Clearly bednter was affecting play, even if the keeper had kept his dive going he was unsighted and wouldnt see the flight of the ball (which moves like a bitch due to the stupid designs now days. lol).

I argued this alot though. We saw it with a team (cant remember who now) at the start of the season. They had a player 10yrd offside not even looking at play, just jumping about looking at the keeper to make sure he distracted and cant see the ball... clearly that interferring with play but goals were given.

I hate the offside rule currently, was hard enough explaining to a women with the original rule, trying to do it now is impossible :p

I have to agree i wish they just went back to if you are ahead of the last defender you are offside. Then maybe the Linesmen could just concentrate on watching players runs rather than watching for active ect :)

And Ashley Young was young player of the year. He's gone a bit off the boil these past 2-3 months but 2008 was definitely his year.

Think Stephen Ireland deserves an award, Young does as well, but felt overall that Ireland has been very consistent this season.

Ashley Young won four player of the month awards in 2008, the largest number any player has won AFAIK. Ireland has looked good in a mid-table side, Young has looked good in a side that (when the voting took place) was looking like breaking up the top four.

I like Ireland, but it would have been a travesty if he had won the award.

Mind you, I am biased.

I will remember Young for his shocking 2 footed tackles when games do not go his way ;)

didn't realise the player of the year award was a life time achievement award. My mistake obviously.

Thats why Irelands performances were even better -he did it in a side that was not performing well.

if you got a problem with it then go complain to your teams players as they would have been involved in the voting.

Simple point is that even though giggs hasnt played every game, taking into account his performances across all competitions, he has had alot of influence on the teams success.

If i remember correctly giggs is actually the most creative player in the league this season (ie he has created the most goals + most chances). So clearly that shows that he is doing a very good job.

Would i have voted for him? No. But the players in the league believe the work he has done this season is worthy of the reward. Whatever their reason is doesnt matter, simple fact is he the player that all other players respected the work of most this season.

Nope. Giggs has not even been Uniteds most creative player (most key passes to set up goals, most assists)

Infact according to sky sports statistics, Lampard has twice the number of key passes, and the most assists in the league. (Also happens to have scored 12 times as many goals as Giggs) Even if you factor in average chances made per game then players like Fabregas are still way higher.

Not so bothered now anyway, just shows that the award is a bit of a joke. The Writers awards are where it's at ;)

I don't agree. Ireland has played his socks off and his team has simply been 'okay'. Ashley Young was brilliant at the time the voting took place and won games on his own, lifting his whole team.

Four player of the month awards in a calendar year is a record I think you'll find.

Ireland is good, but he isn't even potentially world class. Ashley Young is.

It's an award voted by players, for players, it does not really matter what we think. I think everyone is off the opinion that the nominations happen to early in the season, but as you say the writers awards and others recognise achievement as well. Giggs obviously did enough for his peers to judge him the best this season, and we really have no right to doubt their judgement.

I'm not saying its wrong but i have a feeling the players voted for Giggs as he has had a good season and its coing to the end of his time at the top. So i think he got this more for a great 10 years not a great year?

Ashely Young is not world class, potential or otherwise. Last game I watched him in (AV vs Everton) he spent the whole second half diving, trying to get players booked and getting dodgy free kicks. Not exactly setting the world on fire!

Ireland is a standout player in his team =)

Ireland easily has the potential to be world class. I'd pick him over Ashley Young every single time in a s econd.

I would pick both of them... problem with both them is that they can have some great games, then disappear for 2 months.
