Drivers are a non-issue it's a fresh windows 8 install with the latest drivers for all my hardware.

oh mystig, also, had a mate install, run, crash crash..
he did a "verify install" and it fixed it, even on a new install, so try that

The verify didn't help me when I tried it, same thing happened (launched, logo, drop to desktop). I do have a logitech mouse/keyboard but they aren't fancy like the G15.

It might just be that my graphics card is too old (it's an 8800) but I've not had much luck finding a list of minimum requirements anywhere.

It's 11 or 11.1, whatever comes with Windows 8 basically. I'll just give it a week or so as I'm disinclined to install beta drivers on fresh system.

i tend to put dx9 on win 7 in case some of the bits arent in the newer DX builds afaik and they are happy cohabiting

Windows 8: Game window not launching / USB attachment issue

Game controllers and headsets connected via USB are causing conflicts with the game window launch process. Disconnect any USB controllers and/or headsets and restart the computer, then launch the game again. This should take care of most Windows 8 launching issues that are not connectivity related.

Launcher mate, I know steam validation would only check against the initially uploaded client put on steam.

Only thing USB I've got is my keyboard and have to be honest, if PL2 can't deal with that then I'll wait until it can. It's not a Windows 8 thing imho as it affects absolutely nothing else.

Have they done some ninja patching lately thats gone terribly wrong? Now I keep falling through the floor dying. Spawn timer and various loading timer stops at 98% forever and the general lagginess is much higher than before.

Worked out something rather amusing, NC heavy + default gun + laser sight (can turn it off with L not to give your position away but retain the benefits) + heat scope = LOLOLOOLOLLOL hip fire noobs to death with 100 round mags/high damage + scope when you know there are cloakers around, fucking hilarious - clocked up 150 kills / 32 deaths earlier with it, so broken.
