Its a shame that the Kies software is such utter gash, its a pretty large ballache to just transfer stuff from PC to phone.

Oh yeah it's terrible.

I use an app called isyncr really easy to use to get my itunes stuff over.

What I find really annoying is that sometimes plugging the phone into the PC causes the phone to stop seeing the micro SD card meaning I have to re-boot the phone.

From googling it its a pretty large problem so hopefully Samsung fix it sooner rather than later.

Other than that its excellent.

My 64bit pc with Kies running just won't find my mobile at all only works on 32bit for me.

Glad i only have to use the program for updates.

Found that if you turn on USB debugging Settings>applications>development then the PC can see both storage (internal and the SD card) without any problems.

Sill, would be nice to have a working program to manage contacts and apps. Can do it all on the phone ofc but using the PC is far easier.

the hero had a similar problem, think it's just an android thing.

As for file management, just un-mount your sd card and use your phone as a mass storage device. It's much easier to copy albums and songs directly to the SD card. Use the structure - music -> artist name -> album name -> song title.mp3 for ease of browsing in media players.

As for managing contacts, are you not using a google account? Delete or add contacts on google, and sync with your phone.

You can manage apps from the market place, view downloads to see currently installed apps, and uninstall from there. A lot fast than going into settings and application management.

My desire has just gone mental. Endless on // off cycle, doesnt finish booting before resetting sometimes. Think it's some dodgy code in an app I just updated. But I can't even get it booted to uninstall :/

This wifi bollocks is getting on my nerves. It says it is connected but still fails to actually use the wifi and attempts to use the standard mobile network. Yet another common problem according to google searching. A fairly major issue when you consider that in October O2 go from unlimited mobile data to 500mb. There seems to be no way to pick whether you want to use the wifi or mobile. Hopefully sorted in the android update but useless to me now. I would like to sync only when using WIFI, either at home or at work, no chance in its current state.

And yes the settings are all set up correctly, WIFI set to be on all the time etc. I just love beta testing for lazy software corps :m00:

If it's a problem, put a couple of widgets on a screen. One to toggle wifi, the other to toggle mobile data.
Or use power control widget from the market.

use the google power bar Raven, or mobile net and wifi widgets as zenith suggested. Just turn mobile net off using these when you are in a wifi zone.

Raven I too had this problem turns out it's the sleep mode for wifi turned on.

Menu
Wifi settings
Press menu
Advanced settings
Set the wifi sleep policy to never sleep.

Those steps fixed it for me, now I just toggle it on and off via the widget when I'm not using it.

Thanks for the help, I think I have it figured out now. The problem I had yesterday was that I was sat next to the wireless router so had full wifi strength and no mobile signal (its always like that in my house/village) yet the phone still refused to connect to anything, it seemed to be trying to use the mobile connection over the WIFI, when it should be doing it the other way around.

The work arounds posted seem to work, force the mobile network connection off and force the wifi on. It also seems to affect people with BT homehubs more than others. Getting rid of crappy BT when I get around to signing up wih someone else but I always dread attempting to speak to someone at BT, they are specially trained to grind you into submission whenever you phone them.

Now if only they would release a version of Kies that actually works I will be a happy bunny, they will have to before they release android 2.2 otherwise I can't see how we can upgrade to it.

I thought you had Kies working? if so you'll be able to download the new 2.2

It worked once after a lot of pissing about, doesn't work now though and cant remember how I got it to work. For now its not a problem, I can just set it to mass storage to transfer stuff and sync with google/facebook for contacts.

Already have the latest version, which still doesn't work.

Also having problems with the network connections, it refuses to connect to my work WIFI, it sees it but just doesn't connect. It accepts the pass key and says it is connected but isn't, don't even get the wifi symbol on the top bar, tried everything even down to turning the airplane mode on and off (as suggested in a google search)

Getting pretty fed up with it tbh, its an android problem according to google searches so changing phone wont help and there is no way on earth I would lower myself to getting an Iphone so stuck with it until the android update.

Spoke to O2 who said it could be an issue with static, they told be to remove the SIM and battery. Didn't work. On further investigating it looks as though it could be a problem with the work router not being compatible, or android not being compatible with the router, whichever end you hold it. Not a huge issue I suppose as I won't be using it much at work or home anyway, will just have to download any apps/large amounts of data over my home wifi.

Another rant, OMG at the battery life. Its already warning me to plug in a charger, I only charged it up late last night! They should have made it a little fatter and put in a decent battery.

My brother's Galaxy S had wifi problems when we were running 4 SSID's. Now we only have two and it's better.

Welcome to smartphones ;/

Put it this way i work for 7.5 hours a day (phone is off at night) i switch my phone off when i get to work and switch it on for around 30mins for my break to send a text etc.

I then switch it off, just making the phone do that+load screens/search for network etc makes the battery on the phone go down a notch.

My Desire wasn't any better either heh it's just todays smartphones in general the phone tech is going forward however batteries aren't.

The desire got better with battery after about 3 or 4 charge cycles. You need to let the battery drain completely, let the phone shut its self down, then charge it for 3 hours while off. Assuming the Samsung uses the same type of battery? Aada could confirm that.

Yeah i've done that twice now the battery isn't bad to be fair but everyone is different i guess, if your constantly updating your status everytime you go for a piss and a shit on facebook i guess the battery will go down pretty quick.

Also the screen is a battery hog and it uses over 50% of my battery lol but why would i tone down the screen as it looks amazing heh.

Overall i've found the battery to be ok for what it has to do.

Does the galaxy have an "auto brightness" option for the screen? This will save you battery. Also, Raven, check your sync settings for accounts and apps - Do you use that stock widget? Do you really need facebook and google to update every two hours or so? Do you need gps on all the time? Bluetooth? It's amazing how many things people have on at once, and then complain about battery life - just turn on what you need, when you need it.

I have nothing turned on, everything is set to manual sync. I don't even update my status on facebook when using the PC, in fact I don't think I have ever even set a status. I think its just early battery issues, in saying that, it was complaining about low battery this morning and is still on now (I have just plugged it in to charge)

Was just given a free Samsung Galaxy S and my initial feeling is that it is really quite good. I have been an HTC fangirl for years, however I decided it was time for a change. I wanted to go apple (just once) however my dutch phone provider doesn't do them (and I am not changing provider when I have a 'she is an awesome customer rating' with them especially as I only have another 15 months before changing country again).

As for support how long do you guys have your mobiles for? I have mine for 8 months at the most with my current provider I can change phone 4 months before my yearly contract is up only so I can stay just behind technology (as you are never a head :p) so who gives a fuck what support they will provide long term as it is not really that relevant (I guess for those of you who buy sim free it maybe a little more important).

I would say give the Samsung a whirl but if you can wait until Sept for the official release of 2.2... for me on 2.1 I do not find it slow however I do not think that I will have as many apps installed as the majority of users frequenting these forums :p

oooooooooooo forgot to say.. no issues with WIFI here at all with mine...
