The program seems to lock up for while transfering some music files;/ finding it easier to just use the phone as a mass storage device and doing it that way.

Is the HTC EVO 4G coming out in the UK any time soon? Done some googling but not come up with much.

Edit. NM, it appears not.

If you know what you are doing, it's very much a beta test at the moment so i wouldn't bother.

Also i believe rooting the phone voids the warranty.

I hoping this update will fix the GPS issues with the Galaxy because well it's horrendous so say the least totally unusable as a satnav.

Few thoughts on the phone after a days use.

It feels very nice in the hand and finger prints don't seem to be all over the screen, also the battery holds up really well so far.

A very quick phone haven't had any moments where it slows down.

Swype is amazing i can write messages really fast now and it's scary how accurate it is when you are swyping heh.

I really like the UI, little things like when the phone is locked and say you get an email and a text waiting for you they both come up as little jigsaw pieces that you swipe into the jigsaw and it takes you which ever jigaw piece you swiped.

Lastly the screen just what a great piece of technology, it just looks amazing everytime you turn it on.

Issues i don't like.

GPS is a pile of shit, locks onto about 2 satellite's which isn't good enough as it locks onto a position anywhere from 1-10km's from where you really are or sometimes just doesn't get GPS at all. Although people who have flashed their phones to 2.2 are reporting this is fixed.

Just ordered a Galaxy S, if I don't like it I can always return it, though from what I saw of it in the O2 shop it seems nice, certainly as good as the Desire.

I am so fucked off with the iPhone and all the draconian DRM (call it what you want) measures surrounding it and the apps. Unfortunately I am unable to get a new phone as I refuse to buy out my contract.

Roll on next year. Also I just saw that the US copyright office (could be wrong) has just ruled that jailbreaking an iPhone is not against the DMCA and is infact legal.

i like gStrings, very handy for musicians. FxCamera i like, and google sky map. TasKiller is also very useful.

Any recommendations for 'essentials'?

You don't need taskillers with android. It's been gone into many a time, and without having a long discussion, just trust me on this one. The app will simply shorten your battery life, and gain you nothing.

There is a kindle app for Android which is a decent e-reader which gives you access to Amazons Kindle store if you want to pay for your books. Plus if you have more than one device Kindle syncs your books across them my books are on the same page on my Kindle, Nexus and iPhone.

This is my 1337th post!!!! :)

I find TaskPanel X to be a very good app-killer. I have to disagree with you about battery life. My battery uses about 10% every 5 hours normally, but uses 10% every 8 hours once I've closed everything I'm not using.

Doubletwist is what I use to sync music and video to my phone. The nice thing is that it transcodes video to a format that fits the screen and minimises file size.

Gensoid Lite is a Sega Megadrive emulator. I can play Sonic the Hedgehog perfectly and at full speed on my Desire. :)

JuicePlotter is an app that graphs your battery level. It's good for seeing if your battery is draining off faster than expected. It's also how I found that TaskPanel X actually works on extending battery life.

LED Desire Light is a torch app with 4 brightness levels.

Rockplayer is media player that plays almost anything you throw at it. The one thing it doesn't do yet is subs inside MKV files, but it plays MKVs just fine.

Simple Notes. If you need to quickly make a note, this works well.

GDocs. Allows your phone to edit documents hosted on Google Docs. It's a bit clunky to use, but at least it works.

Its a shame that the Kies software is such utter gash, its a pretty large ballache to just transfer stuff from PC to phone.
