Your CPU may just scrape through if overclocked, but your GFX card is only about 1/3 as powerful as the Oculus minimum spec.

I may as well just upgrade the lot then. I need a new gfx card anyway because I want a super wide monitor. Think I'll wait a few months though.

I do need a new PC but it'd have to sit under the telly in the front room, so I think I'll wait until the new shit comes out later in the year and then buy a really small form factor PC with a beefy GFX card.

Or maybe I'll just go on holiday. Currently more time outside than inside is floating my boat a lot more...

Whaddaya think about the DK2?

I haven't been able to use mine in six months because I injured myself but I liked it a lot. The main issue I had was the low resolution. The immersiveness made up for everything looking a bit rubbish compared to on a monitor but it made text very hard to read. I played Lucky's Tale at a VR conference and there were no issues with that because everything was big and cartoony, but Elite: Dangerous you needed to run the game without VR first to set up your keybindings and give yourself an idea of where things were in the in game menus. That said, once I'd played it in the Rift I couldn't go back to just using a monitor. Things like the sense of scale as a space station looms over you or keeping your eyes on your target as they fly past in a dog fight are incredible in VR. It makes your eyes tired using it and fast paced scenes made the lower than ideal refresh rate obvious though.

I plan on setting it up again at the weekend and seeing what it's like these days so I'll update you then. I imagine the issues with having to re-configure the software for every single game have been fixed now and E:D may well have updated their interface to make it perfectly playable.

If any of you find yourselves in the Gateshead area you're welcome to come and give mine a try.

Are the specs / latency any different from the Rift?

That's better value than the Rift, considering what you get with the Vive for that price.

It is better value, but if the gaming community lost it's shit at the Rift price, I can only imagine the Vive reaction, controllers or not.

Ive tried both rift and vive and in my opinion the vive is miles ahead, after trying the vive and then testing the dinosaur cryengine demo on oculus it was like going from 2015 graphics to 2003 graphics

With the motion sensor setup on top of standard kit it becomes a truly awesome experience

I don't think there will be a big issue with proce as they always stated it would be a high price high end component unlike oculus that guestimated a price too early and too low

Graphics will be down to the PC / engine. What's interesting is whether the vive and rift have different levels of lag etc. - they've both got the same resolution.

Did you try pre-consumer release rift and compare that against vive?

Has anyone ordered one of these?

At work, I have permission to buy one because we are testing it as part of the ATLAS rift project (ATLASrift | First Person Science), which aims to make virtual realtiy tours of the CERN experiments. There is a EU funding grant to put them in all the major EU museums once we have got things working properly.

The problem I have is that any order has to be done "properly" and pre-ordering from the US site and then figuring out import duty seems like a lot of paper work.

The 4K Sony screen looked great in my VR viewer, but the latency was dreadful...move your head quickly snd the whole image blurred, the Samsung oled screen is in a different league, screen is everything in the VR viewers.

Well... that sure looked like fun. It looked really cool. Like really. But what's the improvement over a regular monitor? Apart from being a cool toy, does it improve my work/play in anyway?

the PS4 VR kit comes in at soo much less money, and I'm guessing less fannying about to get it to work properly.
Gonna be utter wank.

There'll be a PS4.5 released that will improve things slightly, but if you drop a single frame below 90 it's catastrophic apparently.

So says my rift-game designing m8.

I think the Morpheous has separate GPUs in the unit though doesn't it?

Either way, yeah, it won't come close to PC for obvious reasons.

Where does one get a smartphone adapter thingy?

Got mine for like a tenner on chinavasion or banggood. ( that last one is not a porn site, but it probably should be ).

I thought that, but it doesn't. The box bit is to pipe a normal image to TV and the headset, so other people can see what you're seeing.

Even the PSVR team have come out and said that if a game drops below 90fps it wont be approved for PSVR

Gonna be tough to get high end graphics working on old tech at 90fps
