That's already happening mate, so right off the bat you are wrong. :)

Example: USA would never have cared what happened in Kuwait or Iraq if there weren't oil there.

True, but that's just your basic greed that's been going around for ages.

Tohtori was just taking a Daily Mash article *far* too seriously.

Perhaps. Daily mash isn't exactly a concept i'm familiar with, so it seems like any other rant on the internet.

Anything special to know about it?

I'm off to the pub and I've not caught up.

Just thought I'd let you know that the British Government has advised UK citizens in Tokyo to leave.

So. Nothing to worry about still :p

From talking to a crazy Japonish person I know that is more about the general breaking down of Japan as a result of the quake and Tsunami than it is to do with any fear of Nuclear issues.

I hear there are food distribution issues since that refinery was destroyed - not enough diesel to keep the food trucks on the road.

The other issue must be disease with many dead and seawater polluting the groundwater etc. its all a bit of a mess.

If people can leave they reduce the burden on logistics.

Indeed. Despite the headlines, nuclear issues are still way down the list of Japan's problems.

Yeah the reason why countries call back their citizens is that Japan really doesn't have time to cater to tourists and take care of outsiders.

Piss off, don't go there and let the officials get things back on track.

What really ticks me off about this whole thing is the greenpeace assholes using the death of a lot of people as an excuse to drive forward their own agenda.

I'd rather have someone go "Screw the japanese" in honesty, then have any other treehugger go "Ooh it's such a tragedy, we should ban X". F*cking disrespectful if anything.

At California Nuclear Plant, Emergency Response Plans Don't Include Earthquakes

Only in America can you get permission to build a nuclear reactor next to an active fault line without a plan in place to deal with damage from an earthquake. Shit like this is what will harm nuclear power, shortcuts taken instead of proper planning.

Now THAT is stupid, and will come around and bite them in the arse :)

They have already had a meltdown in USA (-73 iirc) but i can't remember if that was due to earthquake or not.

There are already wars and disputes over oil and there is currently plenty to go around. Give it 50-100 years when stocks start to dwindle and there will be proper wars. Personally I would not be surprised to see a conflict over the oil fields in the Arctic.

Yes but isn't that always the reason with things like this?

When the oil starts to run out, there will be wars starting.

If it's not oil, it's gas.
If it's not gas, it's diamonds.
If it's not diamons, it's renewable sources.
If it's not renewable sources, it's f*cking windmills.

The point being, running out of oil doesn't make it specially war-y around here, people just fight for what others have and they don't.

It could be ipads in the future for all we know :p

The Great Ipad Wars of 2035... could happen, would we then now be living in the Jobsian Era?

though it would be nice in 50-100 years some dude being like "HAHA! I HAz all the oil!" and we could turn around and say "CAREFACE! we switched to Nuclear Power :m00: "

The Atheist/Agnostic thing is coming for sure, after the atheists make a dickmove and ban all religion and form a church of atheism after they realise they've become as bad as religion :p

Got an update from a student on my course who's in Tokyo - she was due to come back on the day the earthquake struck but deferred her flight a few days before so she could stay another month - doh!

Shes flying to Korea to get out of there - she said the shops are pretty empty - only chocolate bars and sake in much supply.

Fantastic article on the reg which debunks the widespread press scaremongering which scouse seemingly embodies.

exactly, there's been far too much coverage of a nuclear "catastrophe" that is nothing of the sort, and none of the current real ongoing tragedy that is the devastation the tsunami has caused to a wide area of Japan

That's kinda the whole point of it all. :)

Oil was just an example, ppl will war over any resource that is running out and that is in high demand.

It is a guaranteed fact, ppl just don't know it yet.

But when it does start i'l be there saying "I told you so". ;)

I'll be here :D

The problem i ahd with the concept is that it sounds like an oil thing alone, if the line was something like "There will be mroe fighting over resources in the future", that sounds a lot less preachy then "Oil makes us fight more".

Agree, but oil is the most debated reason for going to war because we know for a fact that it WILL run out, and that sooner rather then later.

Only recently has water and food started to be mentioned as a valid reasons.
