Been a few months now with the Garmin Fenix 3 Sapphire HR, so I can give an honest appraisal. Full specs here, but here's a few snaps I took:

IMG_7874.JPG

It's full replaced my Omega Seamaster as my 'daily driver' watch and so tracks things like heart rate, steps, flights of stairs and is available for bespoke training activities. It has a titanium surround and a scratchproof sapphire face (same as my Omega) with interchangeable straps (I currently have the standard rubber strap but also the brown leather which is classy for work). So far, it's been great - battery life is very good in watch mode (I charge it about once every 7-10 days) and lasts over a day with GPS tracking fully enabled (GPS locks on very quickly). The phone app is uncluttered and easy to use - the google (or Apple) maps overlay of my hillwalks is very useful with a navigation mode to allow you to track back your route if the weather closes in. The golf mode is particularly useful as it allows you to download a course to the watch and then use GPS to give your yards to the front, middle and back of the green - all on your wrist.

File_000.jpg File_001.jpg

s a side, you also get phone notifications to your watch via bluetooth and a polite buzz to notify you - useful for checking texts discretely when you're in meetings at work and the phone is on silent.

Overall, a seriously good piece of kit that does it all for me.

It's not cheap at £450, but you do get a lot for that - heart rate monitor (the Fitbit HR is £100 alone!), built in GPS tracking, WiFi connectivity, solid build (titanium and sapphire crystal face), all the bespoke tracking modes for different sports, the online Garmin Connect service. It's probably the first wearable device on the market that does it all.

Looks like a smartphone that's actually worth having. Now they just need to do a version that's a dive watch as well...

Looks good, I am waiting for Casio to pull their finger out and make a Gshock Android watch. watches and me don't mix, I break most within weeks. I think I read about one but specs were on the slim side.

@Scouse you were asking about the bike?

It's this one - Boardman MX Comp Bike - seemed alright.
I haven't a clue about road bikes. Not a clue. But it's pretty :)

However, those curved-down seats are a nightmare for me. Like sitting on a red hot poker. If you have *any* pain between your legs (other than on your sit bones - which is probably just a symptom of not riding enough) then change for something like this.

Though actually - read that link. Everything on it (Sheldon = god). But especially bike setup etc. @TdC will be able to tell you about roadie stuff probably - and @Tom's the fucking master :)

They have a break-in period of several thousand miles so it won't be comfortable out of the box, it'll take a while.

I know no-one said they were interested, but I had my club fitting at American Golf today. Properly impressed with the service, they put you in a practice net, ask you to hit a few balls with your existing club, then try a few with some new ones. All the time it's hooked up to some sort of box of tricks which measures all the stuff important to a golf swing - club head speed, ball speed, spin, launch angle etc, and they base the recommendations of that. As a result I have ended up with a 3 and 5 wood, perfectly tailored to the way I hit a golf ball.

Nike Golf Vapor Fly Diamana Fairway Wood from american golf

I have those with a Stiff shaft, and 3 rolls of tape under the grip to help my big man hands hold the club properly. I was hitting the 3 wood like an absolute rocket as well, easily 20 yards further than my old one, lower and straighter as well.

In fact I hit a few shots in a row with 0 rpm side spin (thats the one that makes the ball go left or right - anything under 100 is excellent, most players are in the 500 - 1000 range), which the guy doing the fitting took a screenshot of, as he's never seen that before in the job. But then you knew I was awesome anyway :)

After a shitty day at work, that hour has cheered me right up!

Turns out the machine in American Golf wasn;t that accurate - it had me hitting the ball about 220 yards - whereas out on the course it's more like 250/260 :)

Just off to pick up the 5 wood now (had to have it ordered in specially). I do like new golf club days :)

Any home automation experts here? I'm looking at something like Homewizard control unit but also need a remote stopcock water shut off. All I have found so far in UK is flood protection devices which are standalone - no alert system

FUCK YOU. I'm interested.

I'm too shit to hit a driver comfortably, but there's something about zinging a 3 wood with a stiff shaft. Can absolutely rip it comfortably. Can't beat a sweet three wood.

They have pulled out of clubs, bags and balls, bur you can still get them, they just won't be bringing out a new range next year. Bit of a shit decision if you ask me as they make some cracking kit, but never mind. I've now got a fairly comprehensive selection to pick my 14 clubs from including

Covert Driver
Vapor Fly 3 and 5 Wood
Original Blade Irons 1 - Pw
Engage Wedges 50, 54 and 58 degree

I've always avoided mixing manufacturers so you get a consistent feel throughout the bag, went through Yonex, Callaway and Taylor Made before settling with Nike about 10 years ago. Bit gutted they're leaving if I'm honest :(

G I would definitely suggest giving one of these a try, it's an absolute weapon. Hardly any need for a driver if I'm honest the way it goes, only about 20 yards short of my average drive, and far more accurate.

Will take a look, likely to replace my Razr X irons next year, which I got about 4 years ago to replace some Ping i10's. Still have the i10 SW as my goto, loved those irons but not so sure about the new i25's.

Why not try something like this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Automatic-Stopcock-manufactured-Autostopcock-installation/dp/B009CB5PQ2

And considering it's electric, you could wire it in series with a wifi lightswitch (of which there are plenty), so you control whether the remote switch is on or off.
