I didn't read the post beforehand. That's mighty impressive if its multiple pictures!

As for a bad shot, I am not sure how else you would be able to take that picture, its not like you can move the mountains or road :)
Yes its multiple pics put together in lr. And i think its fine.

Not really.

But I'm interested to know how it should be shot @Tom / @Big G . The subject matter is obviously hugely pretty, and I get the rule of thirds, but how do you do panoramic?
I guess he is alluding to the fact it would be better composed to draw your eye to the centre of the picture rather than out to the left. So a road running up the centre of two mountains would be good. But from this view point that wouldnt be possible.

Srlsy, so much pointless analysis - it was a series of images taken when the snow / hail obscured most of the view so that I could test out the new Lightroom 6 features when I got back to the house. As it turns out, it works tremendously well and worth purchasing (in line with the 'nerdy awesome shit' thread theme). This isn't about the subject matter in the slightest, I uploaded my main "keepers" to the Random Spam thread which can be viewed here.

I know - I'm just interested in how you're supposed to do panoramics...

Have a look here. Colin Prior specialises in 3:1 images of Scotland.

It really depends Scouse, I only do 2:1 panoramas when the subject matter dictates / fits, and it's generally where the bottom or top portions of the image don't really add anything to it so I can have a tighter composition with width. For example, in the following image there was "too much" water and sky, and by cutting it into a 2:1 it adds an amount of length to the bridge, almost matching it's proportions that got lost in the normal 3:2 ratio.

In the following example, it didn't really work as a 3:2 image for similar reasons - the big blank sky and featureless foreground water didn't work and the hills in the background and foreground island were lost in a 3:2 image.

The problem with doing this is that you lose resolution for printing, as you're effectively cropping a 3:2 image. Stitching several images gets around this loss of resolution

Ding Ding, I posted ages ago that he'd ordered it :p You guys are forgetful.

Disagree on it not being nerdy or awesome though, it has its own data sim so you can browse the interwebs from the screen in it.
Although it'd be way sicker if it also had a wifi network from that so it was a portable hotspot.
Would be far more impressed if it were a Tesla :D
