Just need a room big enough for them. They need to stop thinking tv,s and start thinking video walls in houses. Lol

I can't wait for phones to start getting 4k screens though, we'll be gaming in 4k on phones, before consoles - think about that.

My best mate has just spent £50k renting an apartment on the palm for a year.....

...and on topic he's bought an 84" TV to go in it o_O

I work for Panasonic in Dubai and got a demo 65" on my wall cost me 2700 AED around 450 GBP :)

My 4 bed villa (300 sq m) with shared pool and gym costs only 20K GBP but that is because I don't live in an expensive area like Jumeirah or Palm. Actually I don't pay anything as company pays me 35K (200000 AED) a year for accommodation. Like most expat packages here that will range between 130-250k AED depending on rank and company.

Bit like living in Wimbledon vs Westminster :)

But its 5 GBP a pint! Seriously Dubai is not a cheap place to live and I would not recommend working here on anything less than 100-120k GBP a year. Tax Free and cheap cars/petrol is about all that is on the plus side. All the basics like utilities and food etc are probably double UK prices.

reminds me of my youth in Indonesia. pay and perks were stupendous for my dad, but it wasn't classed as the "highest grade of expat hardship" because the company was feeling frisky.

Those were the good days. 45% uplift for working in Oman for a year in 95-96 on full expenses. Saved an entire years salary tax free. Was close to doing a year doing a year in Indonesia myself but instead went to China/HK.

Yeah Hawkwind. my dad worked for Mobil (before Exxon) before he passed away and built the first 5 LNG refinery trains of a plant in Indonesia. we lived there for 10 years. I must say, as a child it was simply awesome and I have great memories. Thinking back as an adult, from an adult's pov...holy hell the 'rents were between a rock and a hard place I kid you not: all local officals currupt as fuck, mad ass censorship/seizing of goods, etc, being unable to get "off the job" 24x7, forced to leave the country every 3 months to renew visa's, all kinds of oddness.

edit: this was '75-'85 mind

I've thought about that. The thought of gaming on a phone has made me do a little sick in my mouth.

Well at least they actually make panels, unlike Sony! :)

That's why I went straight to Sony for the telly this time round, as they don't use Samsung panels any more (LG and AUO iirc). Rumour has it they were fed up of Samsung nicking all their tech :)

Actually thinking about it, they do make their own panels, just not for tv. Have a look into Japan Display Inc.

Dude some of the LG panels are simply woeful - the "flagship" W955 is notoriously dogshite (evidence ahoy, have a google). I loved Sonys, loved them, but there is no denying that they're in a terrible financial clusterfuck and it's showing. I chose to stay away this time.

Sony need to realise that it isn't the 90s any more. They can't get away with over charging for the same product as their competitor. Especially when their competitors make half their kit.

Aye I saw that, hence why I went for the W829 instead, stunning panel imo. Bloody well priced as well for the picture quality too. Had an LG for 7 years before that , was also a cracking set, still used every day in the bedroom. I've just never seen a Samsung TV and been blown away by it, including the latest curved sets, they just seem very meh. Seen plenty that have developed weird issues in the first couple of years though.

Horses for courses, I just wouldn't touch anything Samsung make with a shitty stick. Plenty of other manufacturers in my house currently, not just Sony. Just no Samsung :)

Samsung are very hit and miss, my Samsung PC monitor is faultless, couldn't be happier with it. My mates 42 inch is crap though.

Most of the Samsung Tech actually came from Panasonic. They nicked quite a few of the Osaka dev team a few years back. Good move for them as it reduced their R&D costs and timeline significantly. With Sony's financials unraveling I'm not sure I would be buying their gear, not that I have for years!

You mean like that remote play feature on your z3 you've been banging on about. Guess you'll be doing a lot of vomiting then.

Not having a PS4, I doubt it. Anyway I'd use the Vita for that. Having physical buttons and everything.

They do look bearable with one of those DualShock 4 mounts, but if I need to take extra bits whilst travelling, again I'll just stick the Vita in my bag.

years after release Vita still only has a handful of decent games worth playing. I had one at launch and honestly have not touched it in months. I keep looking for something worth playing on it but never find anything.

Just took delivery of the Nvidia Tablet and really liking it so far. Downloaded Portal and been messing around with Trine. Lovely screen, great for vids on the go. Have the VLC player loaded and a 64Gb SD card in the slot, will get a 128 this afternoon on way to airport. On a 17 hour flight back to Dubai and will be watching some movies and TV. USB power input so no need for taking a PSU onboard is a plus in my book. Just a USB cable for phone and tablet. Only downside is the size of the controller a mini version would be good. Not tried the PC stream yet will do that next week with Shadows of Mordor.

I'd rather play on a 1080p screen with an actual controller instead of a vita.
