I bet you prefer cinematic 30fps as well.
And then spunk over anything over 480p on a phone, when the dpi is comparable.

eg. a 1080p 5.5 inch phone is 400.53 dpi.

My 28" 4k monitor is 157.35 dpi.

tldr, if you think 720 is worse than 1080p on a 5.5inch phone, you basically think you yourself are wrong :p

Nah, I'd like 100fps cinema. Can't abide the sideways scrolling jerkiness when panning across a scene. :)

1080p on a phone is a overkill tbh. Also usage between screens and phones are different - you don't often sit 6 inches from your telly/monitor.

Yes, there may be *marginal* gains. But that's all they are...

4K's biggest issue is 4K Media, so little of it about. Certainly far from mainstream right now. By the time the media starts getting released in any sort of quantity the prices of the panels will have dropped round 25%.

Isn't it the ability to deliver the media in 4k. Blu ray is too small for a movie isn't it? And you need to have a larger broadband capacity to get it.

As far as streaming 4k is concerned, HEVC/H.265 has made massive improvements on compression while maintaining the same quality against H.264 (like, double the compression).

Can definitely see the benefit of 1080p on a phone, the difference in quality between my Xperia SP (720p) and Xperia Z (1080p) is massive.

Still a bit gutted, after caining it for 18 months my Z is starting to fall apart :( Well, the flap over the USB socket won't close, so it's no longer waterproof. I see an excuse for a Z3 (or possibly Z3 Compact) :) PS4 games on your phone for teh win.

Just need a PS4 first....

I'm genuinely considering getting a Vita for quiet days at work, the possibility of playing a load of old PS1 games is just too much to take.

I'm actually seriously considering a Sony phone for my next phone just for that.

PS4 games while sat on the shitter is a deal breaker for me.

Exactly, and other delivery systems to. Over satellite it takes too much bandwidth, cost increase over 1080 is just not worth it in most cases. Maybe sports such as EPL will be a driver in UK with Sky. Also, NBA/NFL in US over the the newer Spot Beam HST Satellites but generally the costs are prohibitive.

@caLLous Regards compression techniques, yes H265 is an improvement but still the bandwidth required is a concern. At least a 2 to 3 fold increase. Unless you pay for the sat / launch your paying by the megabit. Its just economics over value. Which is why sports are always the driver. If the market demand 4k sports feeds then it will happen but it will take quite some time to become mainstream.

Ordered some NFC tags to use along w/ my OPO.
Initial Plan is one where I keep the phone at night, so I can swipe it at night, and it then mutes everything and switches wifi/BT off, and in the morning swipes on to resume wifi/BT, and sends a WOL command to wake my pc up.

Not sure what I'm gonna do with the rest of them, but there is some cool stuff you can do with them :)

Are they full tap or proximity. If proximity you could try using one on your keys with tasker to do

If not near keys then activate pin required

I have some NFC tags I use with my Nexus 5. They're fun, but fiddily to sort out. I use a tasker add on so that it can set silent mode etc.
I want to get some of the apple version of NFC, iBeacons - they work on bluetooth so you can legitimately use them to do "stuff" when you enter or leave a room.

What I went to end up with is them around my house, so that when I walk into a room, the lights turn on (LIFX) and the lights say downstairs, turn off. Unless my gf's phone is downstairs, that sort of thing.
Or, play classical music through sonos from my latest playlist, when I arrive home between 3pm and 6pm, as long as my gf isn't home.

Next I just need the moto360 for on-the-wrist control!!

In the opos favour: screens bigger, bigger sensor rear camera, much bigger battery 3100 vs 2300, 3gb ram vs 2gb, 64gb internal storage available ( no sd slot, but w/ 64 gb.. it isn't an issue for me personally - if I had a 16/32gb phone then I'd need SD support ), good rom support ( paranoid, mahdi, etc ).

In the cons:
Doesn't have native wireless charging ( you can use one of the adapter cards to do it but... ), wireless charging charges at 500ma, the opo charger is 2000, most chargers are 1000. I can charge from empty to full in <1hr using the charger. where it'd take 4hours with wireless charging.

Additionally it does not support all LTE bands ( no band 20, check your mob network if its important to you ).
Also no IR Blaster. ( Although the nexus 5 doesn't have that either ).

I guess those are the major downsides.
If one or more of those functions is super important to you then it probably isn't for you.

I've played a bit with the nexus 5, and I have to say I like the extra screen size on the OPO and I don't have an issue with the negatives - aside from the lack of IR, it might not seem like much but I do prefer the slightly larger screen - for the rest it's up to you to weigh up whats important to you feature wise.

One of these, because I've been working in cranes a lot this year and the supplied harnesses are never quite good enough. I also got a lot of shiny climbing rings and things with it, as well as a proper fall arrester so I don't snap my spine if I fall out.

So NFC stuff:

Got a keyfob NFC on my car keys, it disables wifi, enables BT, connects to car and starts music, on second swipe it turns off BT, turns on wifi, stops music.
Got one where I leave the phone overnight that turns off ringer/notification volume, turns off wifi/bt, and reverts on second swipe.

You could literally write a goatse/lemonparty launcher for one and stick it to a bus stop :)
Or rickrolls people.

They're probably fucking bullshit, all their reviews are fakes.

Scan have 600 reviews and have been around forever, this company has 2800 reviews all from people with 1 review.

Yeaaaah, so. I was admiring some shitty grafitti under a bridge and tried to pull of an adventurous strafing move and ended up in a bush.

It could've been a lot worse though, on the other side of the bush was a big river. And I pulled the Phantom out of the bush, checked it over, put it down and (cautiously) took off again. A couple of nicks on the blades but other than that it's all good.

I've accidentally rolled it on landing in a strong gust but I've got used to pulling it out of the sky with one hand so I know how to deal with that situation now.

Absolutely love this thing though. I'm not bowled over with the quality of pictures out of the Gopro but the video is nice enough (I haven't really played around with ProTune yet). The JPEG compression is pretty horrendous, it will be ok for web use but no chance of printing anything I don't think, not that I've tried yet.
