I'm due an upgrade next month. I currently have a HTC one that came out this time two years ago. Do I:

a) Keep current phone and use the money saved to get a really good camera
or
b) Get the new Z2 which looks to have a decent camera on it?

I have a 4G nexus 7 which I use for browsing around the house so faster internet on a new phone doesn't really interest me.

I'm going on a few holidays this summer and want to take some awesome pictures.

The Z2 does look to have a pretty awesome camera on it - it is however the same unit as the Z1, so if the size of the Z2 doesn't appeal there's also the Z1 Compact.

Other options for me would include the Lumia 1020 (camera is on a par with the Z2, rest of the phone is a bit sub-standard though), maybe look at the Sony QX range of lenses which clip onto the back of a smartphone and
use the phone as a viewfinder? Other than that it's probably keep the HTC and get a new camera time.

Yeah the camera on the Z2 and Lumia look good but that's the only feature tempting me to upgrade. Looking at the specs on the Lumia now - I think it might actually be a downgrade from the HTC except for the camera.

I think I'm going to keep the phone, save £30 a month and buy a decent point and shoot digital camera. I might go for a second hand nex 6 if I can find a cheap one.

I'm pretty pleased by it to be honest. It's a PS4 exclusive which means it's not a direct competitor to the Oculus Rift.
Sony look like they're taking VR seriously because, right now, the Morpheus prototype is very similar in spec to the Rift.

Sony haven't really been covering themselves in glory on the product-development front lately though. Hope its good, probably won't be :(

6:30 on. Seems Sony had the Oculus in house and were in open communication with them. They also mentioned that Sony got into VR through acquisition. Anyone know which company they absorbed for their tech?

It's here :) Picked up the 50 inch Bravia I linked to earlier on Friday. Got a pretty good deal - £890 with a 5 year warranty from th esony Centre in Wolverhampton. I've spent the weekend setting it up, and frankly, it's jaw dropping. The detail compared to my old LG is eye-popping - I watched Gravity on it, and spent most of the film cooing at the pretty pictures. Sound is also excellent, and the screen mirroring on my Z works a charm (as you'd expect).

Yep, that's the one. Lowest price I could find with the best warranty, apparently I had the last one in the country for now as well. The guys in the Sony Centre knew their onions, still not seen the front of the shop though as they directed me into the basement so I could transfer the telly straight to the car.

Am proper chuffed with it, tis a lovely set.

Should have gone for a panny plasma. But your Bodhi lol

Panny are stopping doing Plasmas very shortly, and they're a bit sucky for gaming in my experience. I did look at the Panasonics, but yeah, I'm bodhi :)

I have. 42 inch plasma for games and they are better than LCD as theirs no switch latency for the black to black or however they manage it. I know they are stopping which is why it's good to get in now before the last plasma manufacturer stops.

Not so nerdy but I have just moved from an IPad 2, to a mini retina wifi and 4g and I love it. It's so light, I can hold it with one hand, the screen is awesome ( making reading a pleasure). I really would recommend it!

I went from a iPad 2 to iPad Air at Christmas, the display and speed were so different, I played with them in the store and didn't really notice it, but when you start using it you really see it

I know this isn't in the normal trend of the Nerdy Awesome shit...but i think its pretty awesome :p

I bought one of these at the weekend....

http://www.fitbit.com/uk/aria

Smart scales, ties in with my Fitbit Flex. Weight, Body Fat/BMI tracking etc. I've been using it for the week as has my misses (despite her being very "No i dont want to" at the start shes now got the App on her phone aswell ;)

So far its been very accurate, i weighed myself on some clinical scales before and and it tied up perfectly. Theres not overly much to say about them, they produce the facts in a easily readable and historically available form.

On the other side what i've learnt....my weight seesaws up and down over the course of a day by as much as two kilos (2kg lighter in the morning than the evening) and my BMI seesaws the opposite way with bodyfat dropping a few % from morning to evening. Thinking about it, post learning my body did that, it makes perfect sense...but had never thought about it in such ways.

So i rate it as a good product if such things interest you.......and thats a large if :)

@Poag You weigh less and are taller in the mornings. (95% sure it's taller.)

I never knew if it was true or not that you're taller in the morning but it makes sense as your joints and bones and stuff have time to relax when you sleep and then, when you walk around all day, it also makes sense that gravity pulls everything down a bit...

Just got the HTC One M8 and its a super fast, sexy phone though I am not used to the size of it. Why are the phone manufacturers making phones bigger? I thought the size of the Galaxy S2 was the right size for phones.

Nomad_FrontGI-1920_1080.png I have just bought one of these, a Zaxcom Nomad. Basically, with my current mixer (an SQN 5s) I can take 5 audio signals, mix them to 2 channels, and output them to a recording device (usually a camera). But with the Zaxcom, I can take 10 audio signals and mix them any way I like. It can record all those inputs internally, onto CF cards. It can also record mixes of those inputs, although obviously with 10 recording tracks I can't record all inputs and outputs at the same time. It also has its own radio network, so I can transmit timecode and a "low budget" audio channel to other devices, which is going to save me a shit load of time, money and hassle.

http://zaxcom.net/products/nomad/

Basically, it's like upgrading from a nice solid Jaguar to a Tesla S, but without the latter's obvious limitations. Other cool stuff it can do include controlling other devices (in the same family) remotely, although I've yet to buy many of those devices.

Great measurement for 90% of the population. Absolute shite for outliers (i.e. people with an awful lot of muscle mass because they body build).

It's a good rule of thumb. If you're an average human then your BMI is pretty accurate. And the "acceptable range" for your height is quite large - so if you're in the middle of that then chances are you're a good weight.

On the other hand, it's about weight. Not fitness. They do go hand in hand to some extent - but you can be the right weight but totally unfit. But everyone knows that shit if they're honest with themselves - so it's a good guide for people who don't like to tell lies and make excuses for themselves.

I bought one of these at the weekend....

Was thinking of that myself but for a hundred quid...
