I got a Sony Xperia Z2 today, to replace my HTC One X. It's quite the phone.

Is it better than your HTC?

I for one won't get it as I returned the Z1 due to it's many faults.

Yes, it's much faster than that and you can delete most of the bloatware shite that comes with it (I run Apex Launcher). It doesn't have a case though, which is stupid. I've had to order a Sony one off Amazon. It comes with some scratch protect film things, but I couldn't get rid of the bubbles so I threw them in the bin.

Plenty did. It's basically an awful phone.

Anyway, due to gorilla glass you shouldn't need those scratch proof film things as screens are pretty much scratch proof these days, unless you go attacking it with diamond drills and stuff.

You probably don't need a case either. Had my phone for a year now and not a single scratch anywhere on the phone, even though its made out of plastic. Gets chucked all over the place too.

Luckily you took it with a better camera than whatever you used for the picture of the picture.

mmmkay as an extension of the nerdy and awesome GTX770 I just bought, I decided to try Nvidia's shadowplay thingy which really should be named shadowrecord, but hey ho... Anyway, I turned it to manual, and recorded a mission in Far Cry 2. I did tell the software to record to my giant iSCSI disk so luckily the 21GB (!!!) of files it spat out didn't end up filling my SSD. Anyway, it seemed to boil down to 350MB/min or thereabouts of 1920x1200x60FPS. I was going to upload a resized clip (to 720p), 1.35 mins 85MB, but the fore-arm won't let me.

Here it is on the you tube. It looks pretty cack after YT's processing, but if I hadn't resized it the file would have been about 600MB 0_o

I don't hate sony.
I gave the Z1 a review on the forums.
Search for it to see why I returned it.

You will see these reasons are also in many expert reviews of the phone.

It's the fanboi aggression that is more of the problem whenever someone posts any kind of criticism of Sony.

This is why I love Donnie Leggo so very much.

Am I the only one who will never buy HTC again due to them being really unreliable? I am talking about the older models I guess, like the Desire and Desire HD but they seemed riddled with breaking all the time AIDS.

LG phones for me all the way now (Nexus) just wished they put a better camera on them for camera spackers like me who actually need every little bit of tech help available.

We all form opinions on brands based on experience. Takes a while to gain any trust back. I for one don't buy anything Sony having had incredibly poor customer service and several bad experiences with them. That was back in the 90's and still would buy their shit. They may have some great products now but I still would trust them if anything went wrong.

I was thinking it referred to using a Shield to remote control and playing games but having looked again at the Experience S/W your absolutely right, makes no sense to call the the video record function shadowplay. The Shield thing is called GameStream.

I am exactly the same. I had a Sony k750 and it was my favorite phone ever (rather sadly I have both a black and a silver one under my bed which I use every now and then) I think both a k800 on release and a k850 on release both of which were so poorly built they were returned. Since sending back the k850 I have not even considered a Sony phone and it would take a lot to make me.

And after the problems I had with the HTC Sensation and the socking support I have not and will not consider them (using my mates One for an hour came very very close to converting me).

The T610 got me hooked on SE phones, I had the W850 (the black/orange walkman one) and then the W950i, which was a lovely phone. The W950i only got retired when I got my GS2, Sony never did anything wrong for me but their smartphone offerings at the time were pretty shit and the GS2 was getting all the praise so I hopped on the Samsung train and haven't looked back.

I've had a few over the years now :) Started with a T610 and sort of went on from there. It means I've had some dodgy handsets (Satio, X1) but have had some crackers too (W950i, Xperia S and Z). There's been a definite upturn in quality since Sony took over, the software is quicker and more stable. The missus has just had a Z1 Compact, and that's a lovely little handset. And better than mine which I'm not happy about.

What immediately struck me about that is that the draw distance in FC2 is more suited to a PC game whereas the draw distance in FC3 was horrid. Utterly horrid. You could tell it was so close purely for the consoles.

as I also have FC3 I can do a compare chum. I'll see about it. I need to get some decent video editing software, cos the free stuff is very limited.

Been mucking around a bit more with this phone. It really is very nice. The display is pixel-less. The camera is fantastic, I filmed some stuff in 4K and replayed it on the phone, you can zoom in while it's playing, I could read details that on a normal cameraphone would be blurred nonsense. Very impressive. I can't upload the video to FH, it's too big, but here are a couple of stills. Check out the detail, remember, this is video, not photographs:

The noise in the second one is rain.

I bought one of these last week.

xperia-z1-compact-hero-white-1240x840-20db492519f2618c5539e86c300d1dbb.jpg

Yep its a Sony which made me think long and hard about the purchase. Not such a no brainer as a Nexus device. However with Cyanogenmod support being added and some other factors I picked one up.

Why? Size. The current trend is towards phone with larger and larger screens, thinner but wider+longer. And this is not for me. I want a small height and width phone. The HTC One Mini is a nice phone but no SD card slot.

So i've had it for 5 days now and am thus far highly impressed. Sony have actually done well with the default software. The battery life tools work nicely (gone 4 days with decent usage + 2 working days of music and its only now nosing into the 30% range. I rooted the device as soon as I got it, and disabled alot of the bloatware, Sony Music/movies, Lounge etc etc.

Camera is good, not so amazing in low light but in normal light its excellent. The waterproof/dust covers are sturdy, but i've invested in some docks so i dont have to keep opening and closing them (£8 3rd party from Amazon, rather than £20 Sony ones).

Loving the on phone voicemail
Keyboard is a bit naff, may replace with swift key.
Call quality excellent, had to have a long discussion in another language at the weekend, normally i have trouble with mobile sound reproduction but went through fine this time.

So now i'm ditching my nexus4, gonna recycle unless anyone wants one?
