Got myself an an Autobrite heavy duty snow foam lance, behold:

View attachment 18084

It's awesome as a pre-wash to pull off most of the surface crap, but I also use it as a main wash and it does a stellar job. My car has that patent wet look with this stuff.
Although it looks impressive, it doesn't clean any better than a citrus pre wash via a hand dispenser IMO. I think it's overly expensive once you take the foam lance into consideration. Also careful using it as a main wash shampoo as we'll if it's not ph neutral. It will strip your wax.

I tend not to wax Chet, it's a quick and easy way to get the car clean - I'm a company car driver so it's up and down the motorway and minging in a few days. :(

Why not jump down to the hand car wash guys for 5 quid?

5 quid per go! Costs me 300 DHS (50 quid) for a month, 2 cars and they get done 3 times per week. I supply the cleaning supplies, shammy etc. So cars do not get scratched.

since you're all car cleaning experts, I'll pop you a question in the general fore-arm :D

Because they scratch the shit out of your car. It's for lazy people who have no pride in their car.

Never had a problem with them personally, always do a cracking job. I have plenty of pride in my car too, I just prefer driving it to polishing it (not something Audi drivers would understand ;))

If a car wash is scratching your car they're doing it wrong. Back in the days when I did give a shit about my car (pre-kids) I always managed to find a decent car wash service (there were two nearby when I lived in Shepherd's Bush and an absolutely brilliant one over the road from me when I lived in Woodford). I used to wash my parents' cars for pocket money when I was a kid and I promised myself "fuck that" when I was old enough to have cars of my own. The only cars I've ever owned where I washed them myself were convertibles (and I wouldn't even do that with a modern convertible).

Some people find car washing therapeutic (like gardening, another childhood task I determined not to do wherever possible, although I've been less successful with that), I just find it boring.

They will leave swirl marks, which are micro scratches. But to each their own.

Any chance we can post some more awesome nerdy shit instead of ruining another thread by telling each other that their opinion is wrong?

I'm completely in love with the LG G2 I bought last week. Here's one of the main reasons why...

The guy I work with keeps shouting at Android when it says "You can't do xy or z as your battery is under 10%". When you hear "but that is still 6 hours you fucker" you know he has low battery warnings.

Mine's saying I have 1 day and 16 hours left with 33% battery :)

I won't get anywhere near that as I use the phone a lot, still pretty impressive what can be done in Stamina Mode :)

This is typical of my phone as it charges in the car on my way too and from work and I have a dock where it charges on my bedside table. I have had two days out of it when staying away and forgetting my charger. But it was down in the single digits by about 6 pm.

I'm due an upgrade next month. I currently have a HTC one that came out this time two years ago. Do I:

a) Keep current phone and use the money saved to get a really good camera
or
b) Get the new Z2 which looks to have a decent camera on it?

I have a 4G nexus 7 which I use for browsing around the house so faster internet on a new phone doesn't really interest me.

I'm going on a few holidays this summer and want to take some awesome pictures.

Why are we not going gay for Project Morpheus from Sony? I'd have thought @Bodhi would be excited ;).

http://uk.ign.com/articles/2014/03/20/gdc-sony-project-morpheus-vr-headset-for-ps4-hands-on
I'm pretty pleased by it to be honest. It's a PS4 exclusive which means it's not a direct competitor to the Oculus Rift.
Sony look like they're taking VR seriously because, right now, the Morpheus prototype is very similar in spec to the Rift.

It means a larger portion of the population get exposed to VR which generates more interest, more users and as a result, more content.
The biggest concern, before they announced it officially, was that they wouldn't take it seriously enough and damage the fragile reputation VR is slowly building up which would sending firmly back into the realms of "gimmic" or "fad".

To me, it seems unbelievable that someone could not be excited by current VR tech and the possibilities once they see how far it's come. I've been waiting most of my life for virtual reality to become "a thing". Ever since I saw the Virtuality machines in the Trocadero Centre in London when I was 10 or 11 I've been hoping that I'd live to see the day when virtual worlds were a credible thing. Back then it was clear the tech had a long way to go before it was worthwhile but I think it's finally got to the point where graphics with the right hardware can produce the right level of immersion.

If it does find it's feet it means that more money will go into the hardware industry and we can get higher resolution screens, graphical optimisations specifically for VR and better interfaces.
The ideal numbers of 8K screens and 120 FPS with full body motion control are potentially just a few years away.

Exciting times!
