I bought a hypnocube. I has a video, but as Deebs has a small willy and is too cheap to pay for bandwidth that my 60 second 1920x1280 1200 MB video needs, I can't upload it. Boo, hiss, etc :)

Looking at the pictures, it's like the inbred stepchild of the two. :/

We’re currently looking at the 8Cube Kit for $850, and the finished version for $2400.

it's a finickey thing to make tbh... also the 4x4x4 = 64 leds and the 8x8x8 = 512, so like three orders of magnitude as finickey?

you can get a kit, or pay to have some oppressed child in a developing country who has two cum-laude degrees solder one together for you.

Good buy, my N36L has served me well and its the older version. Be sure to max out the RAM would be my only advice.

Will do! And now all I have to do is decide on what os to put on it! Too many to choose!

freenass and the most mem you can get
This. FreeNAS basically means you have a NAS and can run an isolated FreeBSD install on that NAS which allows you to run basically anything server-ish you like.

just to let you guys know how slow I am to accept new tech... Someone gave me a Media Market gift cert so I cashed in and bought a tiny Lacie 1TB USB3 external drive and an equally tiny GP 4000mA power pack for my phone.

I can burn through my HTC One X in less than a day (meh) and the power pack should charge it about three times over so that's certainly going with me on holidays and such. As to the drive, the speed of it is such that I store star pics to stack on the drive so the stacker program is basically limited by the processing power of my CPU rather than the speed of my NAS...which is "slow" compared to the 300 MB/s caching power of the hdd. Ah well.

I've got one of those as well. 'tis excellent so far. I actually use an RPi to stream to the main telly and an android stick for the secondary telly. Surprisingly the RPi seems to be able to handle 1080p without a hitch, although I'm definitely seeing a bit of slowdown of my XBMC menus (I'm at about 600 movies and thousands of tv episodes).

Have you turned off the RSS news ticker? That kills the RPi when its running XBMC because it constantly uses CPU time when its on display or not.

I'll check. I certainly never switched it on, but it may be a default.

Picked up a R9 280x DirectCU2 top. Holy fuck.

Got 2 monitors open, game running, stream going, 20% fans and 44 degrees and quiet as fuck.

Soooo happy with it.
