dude, in these modern times we have mail-order :) unless you mean the packages would just never reach you? I had that in Indonesia, real pain tbh.
Sounds like you're pretty electro savvy: I have a mate who builds his own micro amps (~1W or less) for awesome transmission line super sensitive speakers. Them amps can be in kit form with one or two tubes, or just the schematics...sounds like something you'd love to get in to. Only costs a couple 100's, if that :D

In an aside, the JAN's are now better but tbh the EH were good for me from the first moment I had the pre back in one piece. Perhaps I should swap the order around? On Friday like I said I'm taking the thing to a guy. He designs electro-stuff for Goldmund and Prima-Luna. Dying to see his workshop hehe :D

Nail on head :(

The ARC LS7 is quite an old Pre right? Seem to remember my mate having one, real simple controls and just a small light to tell you it's on. No Mess no fuss. Nice bit of kit if its the one I think it is. How much did that set you back - 1k USD?

I haven't worn a watch for more than 5 years. I never seem to be more than a few seconds away from some timepiece or another and I really don't care precisely what time it is most of the time.

I hate not having a watch on. Its also one of the few genuine personal indulgences a bloke can have once he starts heading towards middle-age. Sports car is off the agenda (kids), clothes start to get more conservative (I'm lucky I get decent staff discount), tech - I've got most of what I need and never have the time to play games or listen to music in the house anyway, which leaves watches. I'd love an IWC Pilot's watch next.

You use a watch a gaming/music replacement? Er...

No, kids are the gaming/music (/travel/films/pubs/restaurants) replacement (for my time). Kids are also the gaming/music replacement for most of my money. So "nice things" are limited. Fact is I can't really afford a nice new watch either right now (there are at least a dozen more important calls on my money), but I'd still like one, and at least I'd use it, unlike all that other stuff.

My Mrs suprised the hell outta me when I purchased by last Tag. We were walking through part of a mall to a restaurant when I saw the new Tag product line. Just made an off hand comment that I really liked that. She replied, well buy it then you have the money. 10 minutes later it was on my wrist :)

Know how you feel Gaffer, spend so much money on my son it's unreal. New Surf board $600, Trick Scooter $500, XBox Headphones $200, Football lessons, Swimming Lessons, Surfing Lessons, Rugby Club......neverending!

Mate of mine had a £300 watch when he was like 16, I could've thought 10000 of things better to spend that kind of money on, imagine the cider!

My most expensive watch currently is a "£469 RRP" £49 in the Amazon sale watch. But this one is for my 30th Birthday. My Family has a tradition of something you can keep for the big Birthdays so my family are buying me a watch. Well paying for most of it and i will top it up to get the one i like :)

ah, too bad. there's so much fun stuff bouncing about :)

yes iirc they're from between 1990 and 1995. Very moddable, very simple, very good. Only (imo) superseded by the most recent ARC pre's. Also, I like knobs that click and buttons that crunch. :D

Gran gave me a Rolex Oyster for my 18th. It probably still resides in the Solent just off Cowes. Caught it on a guard rail sailing in a regatta during Cowes week. :)

I just ordered a 256GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD for my laptop. Now I just need to wait for Monday and decide if I want to run 7 still or go for 8 now there are new wireless drivers :)

Nice Spec. I just put two 240 Gb Kingston HyperX ones in my gaming rig. Really does speed things up. Only annoying thing is the stupid drive bay kit they provide in the box that doesn't fit anywhere my case. Had to go buy two 5" bay converters separately.

This. Bit more practical, also more accurate, than the various Android apps available.

Radio microphones, 'tis how sound gets from a presenter to the soundman without cables.

iPhone 5 <hangs head in shame>, it's for the wife, honest.
Surface Pro 128 Gb Tablet + [Display Port - VGA Cable] + [Display Port - HDMI]
iPod Touch 5th Gen 64Gb
Along with the new Gaming laptop (GT70-One-609US) it's been quite an expensive trip to LA :)

I just got a Surface Pro too (although bought the display port and vga adaptors on amazon for £3 each!
Love the Surface Pro though. The pen + onenote is a delight and the main reason I upgraded from a Surface RT.

Not worn a watch in 13 years and won't again. After 30+ years my old man worked on the clock two years after retirement he died. I won't wear a watch. I'm not a slave to the passing seconds.

Not really, Pro is far better sized for note taking (ie proper notes in lectures, not just jotting things down) than the Note. Also, runs full windows = anything you want. I have office and crucually onenote, which has all of my notes, lectures, recordings etc from the last 3 years of my course. Having that, and the ability to write all over/next to a power point slide is an amazing feat and not to be underestimated.

the bottom one is very impressive tbh!
The graphs and formulas are good but other than that it's a total waste of time.

Typing > all tbfh.

The first vid is retarded btw - why handwrite and have it convert into characters into word. Either handwrite or type - not handwrite then convert. Curly writing recognition? Who needs it!

yes the first vid really put me off. if that was it, I'd not have bothered like...ever. as to the second one, my notes are kind of like that...eg text interspersed with drawings, UML, etc.

Surface Pro - Doing presentations showing global networks and teleport site interconnects and being able to scribble changes using the pen is great, love it.
