Just watched an interesting guy on Sky News channel.

Apparently the bombs from last week (and possibly this week) mix two chemicals to cause the explosion, reports are that on the bus, there was a popping noise of the detinator, then people were showered with white powder, which is one of the chemicals used, he theorised that whoever made the bombs fucked up and didnt put the correct mixtures in thus there was no explosion. Will be interesting to see what the police and investation teams find out - but this does seem rational to me.

People are hardly going to just set of detinators in an "hey look we can do it again" attempt, surely they know they will be caught and interogated.

Listening to the radio on the way home the police have confirmed that they were bombs, but that they failed to go off. Now I am wondering if the police knew about this before, and foiled the terrorists or, more likely, if they screwed up the bomb making.

With some of the terrorists now in custody and their devices also one can only hope that they will quickly find the people behind these attacks.

Of course todays events arent funny, but some of the quotes reported today have made it difficult not to laugh:

Sky News quoting a eyewitness who had been on 1 of the trains: "The man who was holding the rucksack looked extremely dismayed." What is someone whose rucksack just exploded meant to look like? Does that somehow 'prove' this was a failed suicide bomb? I dont think so. :eek6:

Sky News also quoted as saying staff at University College Hospital were asked to look out for a "black, possibly Asian man, around 6ft 2ins tall, with wires protruding from a hole in his blue top." Yeah, because that wouldnt arouse suspicion on a normal day - never mind after what had happened earlier today. :eek6:

It seems noone (apart from possibly the dismayed man found in possession of an exploded rucksack) was injured today, so joking about it seems harmless enough ;)

They have killed one of bombers at Stockwell station.

/edit: forgot to say the bomber was shot 5 times and according to an eye witness he was shot when he was on the ground in a train.

Removed the mention of the Mosque incident at that has turned out to be a false alarm.

The Stockwell incident is after another Bomb attempt, the Bomb appears to have been on another train. Bomb activated but just released smoke.

Well they did...

Given the description of him - namely big guy wearing a big winter coat on a summer day can imagine they thought he was armed with a suicide belt so were not willing to take chances. They also gave no warning they just opened fire.

Sounds extremely OTT but perhaps they thought he was gonna suicide bomb himself?

I just hope it was justified and he wasn't some immigrant who was unable to speak english and got spooked when armed officers approached him.

...not that pumping five bullets into a suspect is something that can be easily justified, especially when he has been pinned down by several officers.

Nah its one of the things thats odd about this the station got swarmed by plain clothes police and they were the people who shot him. The suggestion is that he was being followed but as soon as he went to the underground they had to take him out.

The guy wanted to commit suicide, the police helped him along. Have no problem with that at all.

Seriously, though, the person could have had explosives wired to his body or nearby -- what the police did was the right call. Not that they are above making mistakes, but from the few facts gleaned so far this sounds like the correct course of action.

You cannot afford to take risks in that kind of situation, though. Any judge would find no fault with the actions of those police assuming they had reason to think he was a suicide bomber - killing with no warning is THE only way to be sure a suicide bomber cannot activate his device - and even if you do shoot him 5 times, you do really need to shoot him in the neck, to sever his spinal column so that if he is not killed instantly there is zero chance of his brain getting the signal to his hands.

I just hope they found a bomb on him, if he was just a scared guy I feel very sorry for him and his family, but he should have been aware of the situation in London at the time and wearing a massive coat on a day like today (warm) and running from the police is a very, VERY stupid thing to do.

The armed police in this coutnry are taught to shoot to kill, none of this crippling nonsense as well so lets hope the guy was wearing enough "evidence" strapped around his body to make sure the guys who took him down were 100% correct and professional.

Looks like they might have another one of the bastards

Police have sealed off Harrow road - reports of them taking up sniper positions.

This is becoming more and more unreal as it progresses
