I got a new pc and want to put my itunes on the new pc in sync with my ipod touch

Is there an easy way to do this rather than booting up the old one and having to copy all files across and all shite like that

I just want to plug my ipod intot he new pc and have it sync everything thats on the ipod and then use the new pc as its base station.

Or is this more than i can hope for ..

I seen cucusofts offering but really dont want to pay 20 quid for the privilege of something that really should be there afrom the get go

What happened to make things easy for the end user :'(

Stop buying shite from Apple and this crap won't happen. :)

Failing that, use Sharepod maybe?

You can transfer songs that you purchased though itunes by logging on to a new machine and authorizing it with the same account. Then Right click, transfer purchases. But it will not download other media CD Rips, Amazon MP3 downloads ect. For that i would connect you old disk and copy your library it is the easiest way.

Hello chaps. Sorry to gazump this thread. Need help. Why can't I download Itunes to my Dell laptop? Don't say it's cos I'm useless, I already know that.

Thought I'd cracked it earlier, it all seemed to be there but when I came to restart it just would not. It couldn't fix the problem. I finally had to opt for a 'fix' which took me to a previous incarnation. So Itunes removed. Aaargh.

It tells me 'there are known compatibility problems with this programme' so I ignored that and successfully installed itunes 64, I think that's it. It was all there, I was so pleased with myself.

Then laptop wouldn't start up, and it ran a problem search to fix the problem but said it couldn't fix it. So I had to click on the 'return windows to a previous state,' think that was it. So all working but it's removed the itunes!

My daughter has the same Dell laptop and it installed hers ok. Can't ask her about it tho til tomorrow. Not that she'll know the reason

By the sound of things I'd suggest you try installing the 32bit version of iTunes. It will run on a 64bit machine. I'd also set a system restore point before trying based on what you've said.

Do you know for certain that you're running 64bit windows, some OEM manufacturers (like Dell) ship 64bit processor machines with 32bit windows.

I'll try and check all that. But I tried to install the 32bit first and it told me I had to have the 64bit.

Do a clean install. Uninstall any previous versions first.

It should never tell you that you need the 64bit one.

Thanks everyone. Seem to've cracked it. I uninstalled quicktime from years ago and one or two other things and that seems to've worked. Have managed to install itunes and transfer all my music into it.

Now all I need to do is load my ipod, upgrade to an iphone charge my new camera and I will have become a proper technophobe. Or as near as I'll ever get to it.

I'm stuck again! Story of my life. Tried to load new cd onto i tunes and my laptop isn't even recognising there's a disc in it.

Also tried to put some photos onto a disc and the same thing. Any ideas?

I know it used to work.

If you machine is not even seeing the audio cd in Windows Explorer it is not likely a iTunes issue more a cd/dvd drive issue. Check under Computer Management (right click my computer - manage) then Device Manager. Check to see if your Disk Drive is listed.

You should have a section for your DVD/CD Drives, if you expand that it should show your Disk Drive and you can then check the properties to see if it has any problems. But if Windows is not seeing any disks you put in the machine it sounds like the disk drive is faulty.

'Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is inconplete or damaged.(Code 19)'

Is that it?

Have clicked on 'Check For Solutions' and that's all it does, just keeps checking.

Thanx for all your help but I think laptop has gone to the great I.T.Department in the sky.

Came back from a couple of weeks away and it wouldn't even open up Windows. Maybe a virus, but good old P.C.World think it probably has a faulty hard drive. An probably about to lose everything on it. Aaaaaaaargh. My cup runneth over.::cry:

PC World don't generally know shit though. Back your data up NOW, a new drive will be a lot cheaper than a new laptop.

I don't understand !

I mainly use my no-CD-drive laptop and have that set up to sync to my iPhone. Have some old mp3s ripped from CDs on it and it drops to the iPhone no probs. Having no CD drive though I can't do any more CD rips. So off I toddle upstairs to my knackered old PC, install iTunes, sign in to my Apple ID and register the PC (like I've done on my laptop) and then rip the CD using iTunes. I read something online about a SHARED area on the left bar. Something called Home Sharing. I've turned this on the both the PC and the Laptop though and there's no sign of a SHARED area on the left.

Of course the CDs stay ripped on the PC but I can't copy from the PC to the iPhone because the iPhone is only allowed to accept files from the laptop now.

Any ideas what to do ?

What's your home setup like?

Personally all my music and my itunes XML file is on my NAS, this way I can mount it as drive X on any PC and use that iTunes without it being a dick about everything.

I have no NAS. I have an old PC with its own HD and a laptop with its own HD.

Rip them on one and move the files to the over your network then mate.

It doesn't have to be a NAS btw, the principal is the same

C:\Music on main PC can be mounted as X:\ on both main PC and laptop.
