Of course it can be. But it depends on the character you're roleplaying.

If that character doesn't believe in honour and fair play they shouldn't be expected to play that way.

It's a game where cooperation on a significant scale is required to achieve many of people's goals, and where people plan their evening's entertainment around agreed raids / groups.

So, relax cos it's only a game, but don't set out to annoy others, and justify it on the basis that it's only a game.

Also, remember that there are multiple play styles (PvE, solo PvE, solo RvR, 8v8 RvR, Epic RvR, etc) and that they can't always happily coexist. So, when they clash, take a step back and say to yourself "Is that person's aim to enjoy their own play, or to ruin mine". If the former, take a deep breath and relax. If the latter, rightnow 'em.

If you're whining that people aren't dumping their ML raids, aren't rezzing you in the frontier, are adding on you, etc, remember that you're actually saying "my game experience is more important than yours". Then think what you feel about others saying that to you.

We may have different expectations of a game environment, but that doesn't mean we have to insult and belittle each other.

bullshit argument,last time I checked I wanted to play daoc,not CS,quake or guildwars..

and the foundation of daoc's basic PVP combat system is build around Group vs Group albeit between 3 realms who are in war.so ppl who enjoy that Combat system build around and balanced on group vs group are still playing the right game..so are the ppl who use this group vs group Combat system to fight over keeps and towers.Both belong 100% into daoc

Ill try not to involve myself in this anymore iwe lost countless hours of fun over this ingame allready. I get to worked up over it, and then i cant formulate what i really want to say anyway.
The really sad thing is when the "wanna be" ppl starts spewing the new laws. In the old days, our alliance was all about "blabla in bowl" "blabla at mill" and everyone pilled in. Now a days iwe tried getting abuse in thid, for joining in. Iwe even had a realm mate telling me he wouldnt help, while i was getting twated on my cleric.

I think im getting to old for this game.

I can remember when I started RvRing and had loads of fun. It wasn't only fun when we had won a fight but even when we died I had a great time everytime we left DL for emain. It was the time when the word 'zerg' didn't exist cause every realm was running one. It was also the time when I didn't know about daoc IRC channels and the BW forum.

Now a lot of things have changed. Fun? The only fun I gain is when my group wins or after a really really nice fight (which usually involves winning otherwise it wouldn't be nice). Sometimes when I play nowadays and lose (no matter if the enemies just played better or had superior numbers) I get so worked up about it to a point the game changes from fun to a burden. It is this very moment I am starting to do/say things that I usually regret 10 mins later simply because it is not me.
I am not saying that I don't enjoy the game anymore in general but I think addiction has become a major factor why I still play this game and I doubt I am alone in this matter. Due to my irl situation (finishing my university degree soon) I won't be able to play regularly in the future; not sure yet if I will quit or if I gonna join the ranks of the "Casual Players".

How does GOL fit in here?
Well the reason why I wrote this post in first place was my personal crusade against GOL and some of its members over the past few weeks. We probably have different oppinions on how the game should be played and that is ok. But trying to denounce your guild for not playing after MY rules was stupid. Eventhough a certain dislike for the members of the enemy realm is part of the game mechanics it is not necessary to disrespect them. The 'goal' of every game is to have fun - and GOL is doing better at this aspect of the game than I do atm and maybe I am a bit jealous about this.

I know that flaming and ranting isnt anything unusual for an online game. Nonetheless I want to apologise with GOL and its members as the flamewar originated from my own dissatisfaction with the game.

I still have my own views on how the game should be played but in future I will refrain from imposing it on other players with different oppinions - be it in my own or in another realm. To further increase my enjoyment of the game once again I will not be on IRC anymore while I am in-game and will only post in positive forum threads (except savage whine threads

).

Mythic's vision for the game is epic PvP conflict which is why they added Agramon and not 8v8 instances for the people who like FG v FG action so as not to take people away from the realm war. The arguments about adding being equivalent to the crowd helping out a sports team are bollocks. It's not like two football teams playing and the game being ruined by people helping out, it's more like some football teams deciding that they like 5-a-side football as it's more of a challenge and there's more 'honour' in it then getting upset when some of the other teams in the regular league still field 11 players....

I know why the good groups want pure 8v8 action and I can't say I blame them - against other good groups they get a fun fight and against pugs they get a practically guaranteed win. What's not to like about that if you're in one of those good groups?
I don't enjoy being chain rolled by RR9+ groups and going through a series of PUGs that split up after getting wiped three or four times in a row, that kind of ruins my fun. You say it's not about the RPs, it's about the fight, well it's the same for me. If I don't get a good fight I don't have fun and getting chain owned isn't fun for anyone. If I play by your rules it's kind of hard for me to have fun, why is your fun more important than mine? Why are you allowed to set rules that benefit you and penalise me?

Treat others as you want to be treated yourself. Both ways of enjoying the game can go "hand in hand" if people just talked to eachother in a polite way. Respect eachothers way of playing instead of spouting random insults like:" lol fu you adding newb scum" or "you don't pay my sub so fo you rp whore!"

Im sure Flimgoblin would stop adding on your grp if you told him:" Dear sire, would you please not interfer in my band of fellow men's quest for gaining reputation amongst our enemies" or something roleplayish like that.
