The news will be all over the place and every competitor to this game is gonna make sure it gets spread.

The hacking community will be lapping this up (scum that they are) although there's nothing posted about it yet.

O would imagin there is some serious shit flying around in GOA right now and I would imagine Mythic will be asking some serious questions.

I bet your one of those people thats stands laughing when someone trips up on the pavement and cuts their leg. Then walk off and tell all your mates so they can laugh too.

Yeah. Pulling off a DOS attack on a website is one thing - theres very little they can do except trace the attack after its started - but a DOS attack on an online multiplayer game SHOULD be much harder to pull off...

A Bards Lament

Ok Kemor, here's the deal. When you track the IP of the hacker post all details onto DAOC forum. One of us must live near them, we're spread around the planet. It would feel good to ram a DOS up the hackers bottom so they can never sit down again.

All sing along -

We love you Kemor, we do.....

I've been involved in DOS attacks, not fun, B*stards! I'm 6'5 and weigh 200 pounds GRRRRRRRRRRRR Wheres my Level 72 Sword of infinite Pain.......

No, my dear boy. I'm not hating them, but i'm not getting a full service, for my money.

Plz read from the start, if u don't know what i'm talking about.

I know exactly what you're talking about. And you can take your patronising comments elsewhere for a start. How would you like it if you'd spent hours setting up servers and hosting for your new favourite game, only to have some script0r kiddie come along with this program he's found out of a cereal box and take down your entire set-up, while at the same time, a community in excess of 1000 people are all screaming at you an telling you its all your fault.

I really REALLY don't understand that many of you saying "they are working their butts off right now to fix it". YES FFS! This lack of service (and here I mean the game it self) is NOT what we pay for so I don't give a f..ck that a few ppl are working nighttime to fix this. WE PAY THEM TO DO THIS!!!

That they are doing their best to fix it is NOT GOOD ENOUGH. This needs to work and that's final. It's a service we PAY FOR. Someone wrote about 32 p refund saying we were idiots. Well I am not talking about 32 p, I am talking about a full refund for the 6 months I've paid for. I don't accept this kind of slack. So far there has been 4-5 days (don't remember) I could NOT play due to errors. And that's in 1 months.

Don't give "that they are trying as hard as they can to fix this - that's good isn't it". NO IT'S NOT GOOD. The good thing would me for Mythic to find some other company to run this in Europe. GOA are simply NOT the right choice. I don't even understand why they got it in the first place since France is poorly connected to Europe in general compared to countries like Sweden and Germany.

So for GOA I have little sympathi - not even the poor n00b technicians working nighttime. Probably got their first PC less than a year ago.

Hmm...

Now..

1. I got my freedom to say my openions.
2. I'm glad that GOA is doing what they are doing.
3. This could have been avoid. (extra servers, better security, etc).

.. .That is all i'm saying.

Zugeck, relate it to September 11th.

No one expected the planes to be hijacked and flown into a building. The air company wasn't prepared and neither were the buildings. Or, their preparation wasn't sufficient.

Do you think GOA knew that anyone was going to DDoS their set-up? Why would anyone want to DDoS a DaoC server? They were probably unprepared, yes, but they won't be from now on, will they? Again, they are excelling in their service to make sure this problem doesn't occur by probably installing back-up servers as we speak.

EDIT: Andro, don't be such an ignorant fool.

Guys,

If this was a DOS attack, you really thingk it was one little script kiddy sitting at home on his Windows XP machine hunning 'XP DOS Attacker'

Well, it probably was... but there were most likely loads of them doing this, every1 associates hacking to be single peopl... its not, its a community, larger than DAOC, probably larger than the christian church :p

All i am saying is that if DAOC had more servers, they would have got more people to DOS... the servers GOA have are very nice... If im not mistaken they are provided by Wanadoo (french telephone, bit like BT) and in turn are provided by AndEquant... and are provided to them by Equant... these are lovley servers people...

Wind wisps now have wings and flutter about. Toads also make a sort of Donald Duck type sound when attacking.

I have an old box with the letters IBM DOS 4.0, it's quite big and heavy. I will donate this box to whom ever feels the need to ram it up the hackers behind.

It comes with a manual and a couple of 1.44 HDD's.

You''re just postal because the error was at their end. If your computer had blown up you still wouldn't be able to play and be JUST as pissed off.

the DAoC site seems faster and more reliable than an old 486 now, and they did post the news of hackers on main page and forum.

Last night "Denial of Service" !
[29 - 03 - 2002]

Last night was a tough one.

Around 7.00pm GMT last night, our entire network was attacked (hacked) and this went on for about two hours. The main consequence of this attack was the downing & re-opening of our servers. We decided to shutdown our entire DAoC network to give our technical teams & Mythic's some time to react and riposte. The website (forums included) was also unavailable soon after the attack for security reason and was brought back up this morning.

What are the consequences of this attack?

It was a tough night for our tech teams; to trace the origin of the attack, to protect the platform and check the consequences of the attack. For now, the attack mainly caused a "Denial of Service" (impossibility to connect to the servers and the website), the game databases were not affected. Our logs and analysis show that the early afternoon servers "crashes" yesterday were the early beginnings of the evening attack.

The servers should be back online early this afternoon with the end of the afternoon backups.
We are already working on a solution to give everyone affected a compensation free day.
