Heres me trying my damnest to fail my honours year at university by playing DAoC constantly and they pull the plug on me. Do they realise that i have been forced to do some actual work rather than sitting braindead for hours on end. I intend to write a strongly worded letter about this if I pass ;)

Xavier speaks words of wisdom (although his avatar of Holly suggests someone with a low IQ and cheerful disposition he comes across as a somewhat informative and bright chap :) )

It appears to me that some people have missed the point entirely, for an online subscription based product the lack/absence of customer support is shockingly poor. I really do hope they take stock of this particular problem and invest in some proper customer support in the near future.

BT Openworld customer support is hard enough to get a honest reply from but at least they are a telephone call away.

At least there was stuff on telly tonight to distract me from my work.

I spent so long writing my post I didnt notice the replys.

Its refreshing to see an employee taking a genuine interest in the community so my thanks to Kemor for actually taking time out and reading this ranting.

One thing thats been bugging me, I understand the usefullness of the updater but in future wouldnt it be easier all round to have an official .exe file to download for any of the major patches. It would spread like wildfire throughout the community and relieve the stress, anger and frustration players faced on patch day.

Just a thought......

Funnily enough b4 I subscribed to this forum I looked at the Camelot site and got a phone number of it (I realise now that it was the American No. but google wasn't to know that). I dialed the number and got Camelot tech support.

Imagine my horror when the guy on the phone said it was an American service! And to his knowledge there was no European service!!!

I not only felt frustrated that I couldn't access even a holding page to say whether it was scheduled or non-scheduled outage but deeply hurt that we, as European customers, rate so low in the esteem of GOA as to not even get a tech support line!

Sort it out GOA, I co-run a small ISP and understand your predicament (well at least technically) but not your lack of ability to communicate with your lifeblood, us! I will put up a page (from home at 4am if I have to) to say there is outage and when it will be resolved/looked at.

Here's an idea. Is the American side of the operation the same company? If European servers are down then why not host a small holding page on their servers? There are many ways to point your clients to that page. Email being the best, which I notice I have none even tho GOA have all our email addresses. And if your mail servers down then connect to your American friends MX and relay thu them!

"It's not rocket science"

The Book

Hey ... slumming in Nissies when this nice Tomte wandered up, croaked, and dropped a book. Niffle the Healer picks it up and lo his name is on the cover ... cool now I have something to read whilst the servers are down he thinks ;)

Network Problems

Yeah ... but I noticed fewer LD since 1.45 and the connection to the web site was no flakier than usual.

My guess is that some part of their network has failed or become unstable (currupted / virused, etc) and for contractual reasons, like its their ISP and they have signed a non disclosure agreement with regard to their suppliers systems which mean that they cannot tell us exactly what is going on.

If its a virus, they will not tell us for fear of causing a widspread panic amongst the users.

I agree that their silence is frustrating, but lets hope that they get everything working for the bank holiday weekend.

Best wishes to Kremor and the Back Room Team ... good luck ...

Here is to hoping.

Well....

Servers were all down last night when I tried to log in (8pm GMT). And they are still down now (7AM GMT).

I'm just begining to wonder what the deal is here, when they were down last night, I thought fair enough I will watch some TV, but I wake up this morning and they are still down ??

Well, I have only just left EQ to come to DAoC, I spent 2 years on EQ and decided it was time to make a change, now on EQ I know the staff there work 24//7 to keep things running smoothly, if something breaks, they fix it fast and let us know whats happening, why are we hearing nothing here and the servers have been down real close to 12 hours.

Artful...7th level Scout in Albion on Prydwen....

server downtime

I hope that you are fully aware of the credability issues that your failure to deliver an acceptable level of service is causing,

In any outage situation you need to do certain basic things

1) Keep the customer informed with regular updates, even if they are only that you are still investigating. so the client knows that you are still dealing with the issue and haven't just gone home because its getting a bit late in the day

2) Provide some point where all customers can go to get these updates

3) Where possible provide some kind of resolution timeframe so that people do not keep retrying your service for hours on end getting more frustrated any angry. If you know its going to be at least 4 hours let them know and they can go and do something else rather than hammering your servers and getting more upset at the wastage of their valuable leisure time.

As you are aware today is a public holiday and a lot of people will be expecting this service to be available today as they have a full day free if it isn't it is going to cost you a lot of customers

I am very disappointed in the unproffesional manner in which you handle these inevitable outages, all services suffer issues it is the manner in which you deal with them that makes the difference between staying in business and going under.

I hope that you learn from this situation and do a better job next time

hmm, as an act of good will can GOA possibly consider pledging an SLA to their customers for the future?
