Will some of you stop moaning about having to pay to use a service. I bet some of you don't tip in real life do you

I give tips :)

I gave £2 to my Barber on Wednesday that was over 30% of the cost of the hair cut :(

Personally I don't see what the problem of paying £12 for a year is

Its 3.2p a day. Most of you spend more than £12 on beer or/and illegal substances in a weekend anyway.

Good luck to BW IMHO

*still waiting for custom title ;)*

If you pay him in installments of £2 does that mean he cuts your hair in installments? ;)

Nope, I was surprised he still charged me the normal amount I was on the brink of having a hairstyle that mimicked kez's ;)

Right so it's 12 pound a year and people are still complaining it's too much? That's about what i spend in the first couple of hours i'm out on a friday night, i'm sure I could manage to go out an hour later over 2 fridays and save myself enough to pay for a sub. One pound a month is a steal, you won't even notice it missing.
However I do have concerns, for example what happens when all servers are full? Or what happens to people who are incorrectly accused of cheating (we all know it happens).
And exactly what sort of changes and improvements will we be seeing from our subs?

'lo all

Brave move imo, being the first to go pay 2 play and all that.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if BY and JOLT both sit pontificating that they don't charge to play in the vain hope that the major competition go under so they can corner the market.

Its a little harsh for the European players however. We have a player based in Norway who has awful con problems cos his ISP used Kpgnquest and now they have gone - his connection has gone west with it.

I think so many people are used to getting stuff for free on the net, now that they have to pay for something there is this knee-jerk reaction and screams up n down the country.

Personally I will subcribe, but as a customer I will want to see improvements in the servers avaialable and harsher action on the morons who set out to ruin games on servers. I think thats the main problem with p2p - when its free its annoying but its free so there's little ground for complaint. When you are paying for it - the price you paid is irrelevant - its still a service that you want to use and get the best out of.

I have been in online gaming (on n off) since quakeworld 1.0, and I guess I want to see this succeed for Barrysworld as I think they are the only people who have consistently supported the growth of online gaming in this country.

Enough wibbling for now on and lo Biffeh btw

No but you certainly have on why Wireplay disappeared.

When you consider that someone like me has been playing for free on BW servers for ooooo 18 months or so, the £24 isn't just buying me access to the servers for another 12 months, but it's also a 'thanks' - thus it actually works out at (18+12/24) £1.25 a month!!! Bargain I think you'll agree.

Why didn't Barrysworld ever go for the full blown ISP route? I used to spend ridiculous amounts of money of the BW Dialup when pay-per-minute was the norm. If they had come out with a reasonably priced unmetered option then they could have done fantastically well, I think.

I couldn't really say that my life would be much different if I hadn't subscribed to BW. But to be honest I'm glad to be supporting the gaming community in my own small way. In the past Barrysworld must have been seriously limited in terms of funds, so hopefully now we can really start to see them flourish.

Can I have my own column now?

All I want to know is will there be DoD?

Will you sort the lag problems on the servers? (especially important coz I'm a 56k'er for the forseeable future)

Will admins be nicer?

Will cheaters get stopped?

Answer yes to these and £24 p/a sounds good to me.

I think it was the obvious move and a move all gsps will have to make at some point to survive. I won't be subscribing myself ,however and its not because i'm a whining freeloader either. I actually think that all gsps will go p2p at some point. The only online game i play at the minute is Tribes2, the reason i won't subscribe is because i never play on the bw T2 servers (bar one public clan server that'll still be free anyway) so i see no reason to pay for the service at this time. In the future when i start playing other newer online games or i need some good webspace will mysql i'm sure i'll subscribe, at the minute i see no need though.

On another point i thought BW might have left say 1 game server public for each of the more popular game types, just so they can advertise there service to people who don't know about it (through motd when you enter server etc) and just to show that BW is still around and hasn't disapeared off the face of the earth.

Anyway overall gl to BW, hope it all goes well.

Speaking entirely from my own personal pov, it's not worth it for me. The only thing I use bw for is forums and e-mail (actually I don't use e-mail a great deal). As a result I don't see that 14 quid is worth it, so I'm glad to see that the forums will remain free (won't they). My main quibble is that on very odd occastions I like to jump on a pub server and have a go at cs/q3/whatever. It never lasts long as I get raped by everyone and decide that the game is shite and I don't want to play any more. Hence I play about 2, max 3 times a month. I'm not even considering suggesting that p2p is a bad idea because I don't play lots, I'm obviously not the most important BW 'customer' but I would like to know where someone like me gets his odd bit of mp gaming joy when every gsp has gone p2p (as I'm sure they all will assuming bw is a success..)

Just my two cents..

my 2c...

I think that 24/12 squids a year is very reasonable.
Even kiddywinks should be able to afford that.
I won't be paying though.....yet. The only game I play online is CS, and the BW CS servers are not the best for me. Simple fact.
I raised the ping probs in the server forum, got fuck all response and closed the thread, then it was deleted, bad PR?

IF the service is improved, IF there are some choices of maps, IF they start listening to what we want, IF they stop whinging about CPU intensive games and buy some decent kit, then I will pay.

Its not the amount, its the principle of paying for a (currently) sub-standard service.

Points made about the admins are fair too, who can be arsed leaving and then coming back to find the server full. The servers should be monitored, and changing your name to "adminneeded" should be enough.

I kn ow that a few of you will gain from other services, hosting, sql, etc. For others though we just want decent servers to play on.

undecided

I only play flf these days, and the flf support at BW has been shocking (sure, its been shit everywhere else too...) but I can host servers at work, so why bother with BW.

You in UK but dont have a credit/debit card?

If so you can always get splashplastic and take it to a PO and put cash on the card and then use the card to subscribe.

Apparently I owe an apology. I just checked, the thread is there, but I had my "show posts" filter set so that it was no longer showing.

Soz :)
