My LG Renoir is a piece of shit. The stylus that it comes with actually scratches the screen so you are forced to use a screen protector. O2's response was "we sell packs for £4.99" or some shit.
The camera is ok, but the lens cover pops open in your pocket.
The touch screen is designed for people with infantile hands.
The internet is an absolute joke, it just refuses to load some websites properly (including FH) it breaks links, freezes half way through loading a page.
It fails to close programs properly and runs out of memory, some message about to many programs running, so every few days you are forced to take the battery out to reset it, it wont even open a text message.
The touch screen decides whether its going to be overly sensitive or under sensitive, seemingly on a whim.

Stuck with it for another year though :(

I had the LG Viewty when it came out and OMG i hated that phone within a month shame i took a 24 month contract out with it.

Touch screen was not responsive enough

Internet sucked arse.

I wouldn't touch LG again.

Still loving my iPhone just a brilliant easy to use phone and the touch screen is second to none.

Mine came with a screen protector in the box. Using any phone, especially a touch screen one without a screen protector is a bad idea.
Camera is one of the best on any phone, and the video quality is amazing.
Internet I agree, but then if you want net on a phone you need a phone with a larger screen tbh.
I have never used the stylus, I do not have infantile hands.
Never had the programs or memory problem, and my touch screen has been fine.

Maybe a faulty unit or a firmware upgrade?

Still all that said, I would not recommend it now, better phones out.

So much of an effort you didn't notice the blatant predictive text?

Like I said its been over 5 months since I used the actual keyboard. I don't remember there being predictive text on it...but nevertheless I still find that keyboard cumbersome to use...so it makes no real difference.

Texting on the iphone is a piece of piss tbh bods. I blitz across the keyboard with no problems and with the 3.0 os the fat fingered ***** amongst us can always rotate for full size keyboard.

I wouldn't pay £550 for the 3Gs though. In fact I won't pay O2 for a 3Gs period on the basis that I stuck it out for 18 months with the original iPhone, didn't take an early upgrade and they still want to charge.

I got my iPhone last August, before the software update which puts it on par for what i wanted ( mms, forward txts etc ) so i was gonna send it back saying what a pile of crap it was and give me a phone that does what it should do .. i waited and it's ok, but i still think it's a brick :p The battery still drains for too quickly for my liking and even though i have my mp3z on my iPhone, i still use my sony walkman one as it is alot smaller.

Out of interest what makes you think its the best there is, My favorite of any so far has been the Magic Google phone the vibrate on button press feature worked really well and the t9 fixed any little mistakes i did make. My phone the TD2 the vibrate feels a bit strange on button press but i can still type very fast on it.

HTC touch pro 2. it's awesome.

I shall look into it.

If you're after a cheap touchscreen, the LG KP500 is a smashing little number. Slap a 8 gig card in there and you have a fantastic mp3 and phone in one. Customizable 'home page,' playlist & search functions for music, onscreen keyboard, good sound quality, internet access etc. The only downside is the bloudy camera but taking hundreds of pics to upload onto FB to show how cool you are is so last year anyway :)

This is my current phone :) Got it when it came out since my Motorola decided to finally go kerplunk. (4 years with it, then a uber internals fail) - does the job, just misses a 3.5mm jack for headphones. Not a fan (why the hell did I start spelling that with a P?) of non-standardised headphones.

Doesnt anyone use their phone for calls any more. I can get much better portable movie players with screens that you can actually make out whats going on and you dont have to squint. Same with mp3 players. Jack of all trades master of none.

If i want a camera i take my nikon DSLR

If i want to call someone i take me phone

They're still maintaining that line if you contact cancellations?

Just on the basis I have used over 5 touch screen phones.

Anyway, next time I buy a phone I am going to get the most basic one I can find. I can build a PC and get windows running on it in under an hour but I fall out with phones and TV remote controls, I just can't work the fucking things.

Pretty much, last I spoke to them anyway. I've not seen anything anywhere saying otherwise either.

Why not just get an HTC Android phone instead?

HTC - Products - HTC Magic - Overview
HTC - Products - HTC Hero - Overview

And from my point of view Sony's Panel idea is a waste of time...esp since there are only really 8 of them to choose from and most of those are pretty useless...

I'm guessing you'd buy Xperia Rachael over an HTC model as the SE is much higher spec? Also, I tend to find HTC's aren't very good for clueless people who don't know how to use their phones properly. Perhaps an idiotPhone would be more up your street?

There are videos of the new Xperia interface on Youtube and GSMArena, well worth checking out. You also might want to check out what the top rated phone on GSMArena is currently. Considering it's considered the bible in the mobile phone industry I'd tend to listen to what it has to say. Oh yeah, and they liked the panel interface too - along with mentioning that you can install TouchFlo 3D as a panel, and switch between them to your hearts content.

My wife's HTC Magic turned up today and I've been having a play with it this evening. First thing was apply fastboot, recovery ROM and Fatality's Hero ROM.

I went in with an open mind and got blown away!
The new HTC Hero ROM takes the best parts of TouchFlo3D for Windows Mobile and places them on top of Android. The animated weather forecast, the calendar grid layout, the sheets of paper per email and text messages... all there.
The animations are smooth, and the touchscreen is responsive since it's capacitive.

It's sold me on Android as a viable alternative to WinMo and if you're into swish GUI animations, it will suit you down to the ground. My darling is still TomTom Navigator so I'll need to see if there's a suitable alternative for Android. I hear Destinator and CoPilot are bringing out satnav versions.

I agree that the Panels loses it's usefulness in a short time. I never used them at all by the time I sold my phone.

The BIG difference is speed.
Sure, you could install TF3D as a cab and use it instead of the regular Today screen. It tends to lag and slow down in that case.
If you install TF3D as a Panel, it works but once again it slows down.
The only reliable way to maintain speed with TF3D is to have it cooked into the ROM.

Itje is playing with the new TF3D (Manila 2.5) from the HTC Leo (or HTC Firestone). It certainly seems like an improvement on top of Manila 2 as you can have GPS located weather reports. Social networking is also more integrated with the ability to upload directly to FB, YT etc.
More info here...

Damn you Zenith, you got me looking at the HTC Hero last night. The youtube vids are very impressive, multitouch screen, android and it seems *very* responsive which is really out of the ordinary for HTC.

I just called up Orange and it turns out that I can actually upgrade on the 26th of August even though I've got about 4 months left of my contract. I'll definitely be looking this one up, though the prices she quoted me were silly but I hadn't started my haggling.

The new customer deal is 39 quid/month, free Hero, 1200 minutes, unlimited texts and 500mb/month - but a 24 month contract which seems quite a commitment. Anyway roll on August so I can start haggling :).

Um No I wont be touching another Sony phone for a long while. Perhaps just as long as the last time I got a Sony phone (about 5 years ago I think). If there is nothing else that captures my interest more than the HTC's I mentioned above or the Nokia N97 when I upgrade next year I will be going with one of them.

I doubt I will get an iPhone cos I am not a fan of Apple products. I hate ipods as much as I hate the SE Xperia.

I don't care what GSMArena has to say. It may be a bible but I'm not into that sort of thing. Yes I have TouchFlo as a panel. And thats the *only* Panel I ever use! I hate the Xperia phone and that's all that matters to me. I can't understand why you can't grasp this basic concept? ToucgFlo has given it a much better user interface...

Well.. I already have a g1 dev phone and love the interface, but don't entirely like the physical build of it. The spec of the xperia 2 is a step up, especially if it uses the same quality screen as the xperia. TBH it's a wait and see for me, i love android, it's everything i think a phone os should be and it's evolving quickly, cupcake added a lot of very good things, especially with the phone, which is often overlooked with smartphones and os 2 should be out soon. Eitherway i'm waiting for the next gen to come out. My one issue is no slide out keyboard on the xperia which imo is a mistake for me.

The biggest problem with the Xperia X3 is that it won't arrive until the middle of 2010, and HTC and Samsung will have punted out half a dozen Android models by then. I'm pretty sure I'll get a Hero or Samsung Galaxy, which have almost identical specs, so it'll be down to handset feel.

I hear ya DaGaffer.

After seeing Android "in the flesh", I know what I'm letting myself in for if I decided to jump ship to Android.
I still want a Touch Pro 2 though. :)

I dunno, i think it will come out around q4 this year, the delays in the xperia were due to win mobile 6.1 not being ready from what i remember rather than the hardware + sonyericsson need to get their act together as they are losing money like nobodies business at the moment.
We shall wait and see, i'm dreaming of a small android phone with a slide out keyboard, multitouch and a 800x640 screen, but i think i'll be waiting a while as it's all about slim and touch keyboard.
