It's a huge amount to pay for a phone which can never be unlocked from O2. I've considered it myself, but there is no way I'm paying £500 PAYG or £35/month contract to have very few options for cheaper deals after it.

Had to try one though work and i did not get on well with it at all. Yes the UI is nice but so is Android and TF3D 2 not to mention 3rd party UI for WinMo. I do not get the app store it seems like a way of ending up with pointless crap on your phone. The main reason i will never spend my money on one is the adverts making out the phone is in anyway cutting edge.

I have to say that the Xperia must be one of the worst phones I have upgraded to. The panels idea is shite really...the responsiveness of the screen is slow, Windows mobile is crap, writing a text requires the use of a stylus as the on screen keyboard is minute, the pull out keypad buttons are small and requires a lot of effort to write anything...

Ive now put touch flo 3D on the xperia now so I may as well have got an HTC...

I think the iphone is far superior to the Xperia..and so would the Nokia N97

Work issue me with a new Blackberry once a year, the 3900 curve is this years offering, quite a boring phone and lack of 3g is a problem, but it does run some very large Java Apps very well (I use java Medical References and a java pharmacopeia which run very slowly on most phones), better than anything I've used before.

I've been thinking about buying an iphone myself to use instead, but most people I know who have them spend a lot as much time complaining about them as they do defending the decision to buy one.

Have to say i am really loving this phone, it's easy to use, it looks awesome, i love the apps a lot of good free ones including some really addictive games, i love having itunes at my finger tips and i absolutely love Safari.

I was playing about with it all day yesterday as i was away from home it had full charge in the morning and i was watching a movie/playing music and browsing the web and it lasted until i got home very late last night.

Any phone which is going to get a lot of use will have it's battery battered imo.

I constantly use my phone and the battery lasts 7 days.

You say that Jeros, but that's actually not really the case at all. Performance and UI are features, and the performance and UI of those old (and even newer as I understand) Windows Mobile phones are useless. Yes you can install whatever you like on it but it doesn't stop it from being slow and annoying to use.

I do not really think this is the case any more my phone is far from slow and i often leave lots or programs open atm I have TTN7, Album, Buble Breaker, File Explorer, Picture and Video, SMS and an episode of Big Bang Theory paused in Coreplayer and actions like new text do not suffer and noticeable delay. Clicking Internet launches Opera very quickly but I prefer IE so don't often use that tab. Music and videos launch fine from TouchFlo but again I would rather use a different program so do not do this.

For people with older phone SPB Mobile Shell might be worth a look its a nice customisable ui that goes 2 or 3 level down while hiding WinMo i used it over TF3D2 for a week or so and its a nice UI.

And the newer phones like the TG01 which i should lay my hands on this week has a 1gh processor so i hope it will be lightning.

I may cave in September when my contract runs out, but I really want a phone that can accept two SIM cards, and the iPhone is the least likely phone in the world to allow that, so I'm thinking an Android phone is more likely, especially the upcoming Samsung i7500/Galaxy. Looks like I really dodged a bullet with the Xperia from what I'm reading on here.

The iPhone comes to Orange and Tmobile next month I think so you might be able to get them unlocked then if you need 2 sim cards.

I have always wondered do Dual Sim phone just let you have one active at a time or do they have 2 sets of radio. I would love a phone that could run my personal mobile most of the time then just check my work mobile for text messages voice mail every half an hour.

I have one of the dual-SIM adapters that you have to cut the chips for.
You trim the chip and contacts from each of your SIMs and slot them into place. Slide on the alu cover and insert it into your phone.
Turn the phone on and you're on your first SIM. If you want to switch over, either turn off the phone and turn it back on again.... or if you've got the facility, turn on "Flight Mode" for 10 secs, then turn it off again. SIM switched. :)

One thing I found to be a problem was that if your SIM tried to get a HSDPA lock, it forced the network connection to restart. 3G was okay.

TO be honest, I would put all of your problems with the Xperia down to one thing - user error.

Panels idea - this rocks imo. YOu can customise your phone to be anything you want - messaging device, mp3 player, radio, etc etc etc just at the touch of a button. Going further then you can set it up so your home screen has everything that's relevant, and nothing that's not. But then again, perhaps you could elaborate as to why you don't like it, rather than just saying "well, its a bit shit really".

Texting - I've had this for 9 months, and havent used the on screen keyboard once. In fact, I rarely use the stylus. I find the flip out keyboard utterly joyous to use and can hammer out texts in seconds using it. Put it this way, my text has normally been replied to by the time I've got Apple's hateful on screen effort to play ball.

Responsiveness - I will admit it was getting a bit laggy a month or so, however I did someting truly incredible to fix it. I..........updated the firmware. Now it's just as snappy as my colleague's iPhone, with the exception that I don't have to ask Apple's permission every time I want to order in a pizza. The only time it pauses is if I ask too much of what is basically a mini-PC.

I also hate to break it to you but you did upgrade to an HTC. The Xperia X1 was built and to a large part designed by.........HTC. That would explain the dodgy build by SE's standards (although mine has been excellent) and the reliance on Windows Mobile. Hence why its replacement is running on Android.

One thing I do love about the Xperia is the MP3 player. It has all the functionality of a dedicated MP3 player, and more importantly, all of the sound quality too. In fact in terms of protraying the entire dynamic range of a song, it not only pulls an iPods pants down, but it steals its dinner money then flushes its head down the toilet as well. Not bad for a glorified personal organiser.

Panels:
I select one and it takes ages to "load". They are not all that customizable. Yes you get ones that are a radio, facebook, cnn and all that crap but I can easily access that stuff from my start menu in Touch Flo and much quicker.
Touch Flo 3D is far superior and I have everything I need at my fingertips much faster than with the Panels. I never use the panels anymore. They are a complete waste of time.

Texting:
I now use an XT9 onscreen keyboard which is great. I have not used the pull out keyboard for about 5 months! The Pull out keyboard is crap for me. Perhaps I have slightly larger fingers but I tend to press 2 keys at the same time and it doesn't have predictive text so you are forced to type out the entire word....no I don't like txt spk.

I know it was made by HTC and I wish I had got a proper HTC like the Touch Pro or the Diamond...

I dont use it as an MP3 player so I can't comment on that.

I don't have a problem with the build quality I dropped mine onto concrete and its just got a tiny dent on the corner...and that is hardly noticeble.

The only good thing about it is that the GPS system works very well...

I updated the firmware and the responsiveness is still shit. The touch Flo 3D software works much better though...

Oh and the 02 signal it receives is dire. All my other previous Nokia phones were far superior....I get poor reception a lot of the time with this shitty Xperia

I think we'll have to agree to disagree as I haven't noticed any of these problems. I don't use any of the silly panels like Facebook or CNN, but the ones I do use let you customise everything. Means I can have the apps I want easily loaded from the home screen.

Oh and it does have predictive text. I certainly presume that's why it gives me suggested words when writing a text anyway. Not that I ever use them as I can touch type on this thing (I'm writing this post on it for starters), but it's good to know it's there.

So as I said, user error.

No its not a user error...as i have made every effort to get used to the phone and its shit.

I think you are more of a sony fanboy than you give yourself credit for and cant see the wood for the trees...

So much of an effort you didn't notice the blatant predictive text?

So what non-Iphone phone should I buy next? :p

If you're after a cheap touchscreen, the LG KP500 is a smashing little number. Slap a 8 gig card in there and you have a fantastic mp3 and phone in one. Customizable 'home page,' playlist & search functions for music, onscreen keyboard, good sound quality, internet access etc. The only downside is the bloudy camera but taking hundreds of pics to upload onto FB to show how cool you are is so last year anyway :)
