Lol I like plenty of new things.these are just some of the issues I found with my s3 though:

I can't even go half a full day without charging it. On a workdays get up at 530. Phone comes off charger 100%. If it wasn't off its reset. Mobile data on, wifi off, bluetooth off, power saving on : I am in work by 7. Over the course of the day I will send maybe 3-4 text messages and look at the time on the phone say 20 times (immediately pressing the power button before putting it back in my pocket) I might, maybe, perhaps have to use the web browser for 5 mins in the day to look something up on medscape and possibly the calculator for a minute tops but that's quite rare. Anyway. Get to 730 pm. Battery life: 34-36% it's pathetic.

Build quality: terribly plasticky. Reminiscent of a late 90s candy bar phone with interchangeable covers. Namenonames. APPEARS quite solid. Appearances are deceiving however. I had mine in my trousers pocket in work. Was squatting down helping a clerk pick up a massive load of files she had dropped all over the floor when I got hit by some fucking idiot slamming a door open (the doors open both ways and this prick knew they were meant to open the door inwards but didn't, that's another story) I get pushed over, phone comes out of pocket, falls all of 10-12inches onto the floor...massive crack on the screen. I didn't even land on the fucking thing.

Performance? Sluggish at best, switch power saving off and there's a little improvement but still there's several seconds delay when you wait for the screen to refresh etc. and we're talking about things like going back to your text message list here where you were just at.

Frankly I could go on all day here but I won't. In summary it's what android phones were 2-3 years ago. Unchanged, unevolved. I thought everything had gotten miraculously better on the back of SEVERAL reviews where specific comparisons were made to other phones including the iPhone. But frankly it's all shit.

And no it's not just my phone. I know several people with the same issues who all feel like they've been sold a lemon.

Not had any trouble with my s3. Yes, it's plastic, but it's still pretty sturdy. Dropped it a couple of times by accident, including knocking it off my desk by catching the charging cable, sending it crashing to the floor with some force, and it didn't suffer a scratch. Not had any performance issues either, even before it updated to 4.1. Sometimes have to put it on power saving, but that's usually if i forget to put it on flight mode when i'm travelling on the tube (uses a lot of battery power constantly looking for a signal on and off, any phone does). Overall, couldn't really fault it, and so glad I made the switch from the iphone.
Regarding HTC, I've not heard much about their newest phones, apart from a friend complaining about the amount of crap they pre-install and won't let you remove, though I think most suffer from that apart from the nexus range.

The only crap that's pre-installed on my one is ALL Google stuff. None of it is HTC.

HTC's sense interface, dialler app, messaging app, browser?

Can you un-install them?

Samsung phones do have a lot of shitty samsung own brand version of perfectly good android (google own) apps, which is quite annoying.

Rooting fixes all however. The same as jailbreaking makes the iphone a decentish phone.

Don't know and don't know why you'd want to on the One. They're all really good, no issues with any of them.

You'd want to because pure android is much nicer than sense, touchwiz or the like.

Android is about customisation and choice, not having a locked down interface like Apple. So if HTC and Samsung are starting to lock you in, then it's not a good thing.

You do realise that Sense on the One is pretty much nothing? It's incredibly close to pure android. It's not like it was on past phones.

Well that's a good thing; however my question was whether you can un-install the built in HTC apps, or even disable them without rooting.

You can usually set another app as a default, which is what I do with my s3 - chomp sms for texts, nova launcher instead of touchwiz, chrome instead of the samsung browser, google calender instead of samsung calender etc.

Ch3tan did you not read my post? Several other people have the same problems with their s3 as I have. My wife and I have s3's. two of my best friends have s3. Four colleagues on my last placement had them. Everyone is experiencing similar problems. I bought new batteries for myself and the wife because I did think it might be a dodgy battery...no change whatsoever.

As for the one x. My sister has it so bad that she has a charger in the house a charger in the car, one in work and a battery charging pack and still regularly runs flat. Tbh it's getting to the point where we are considering selling them and going back to our iPhone 4's until this years new iPhone comes out.

No Nate, there's no way I'd touch the s4 after all the s3 issues.

Sell s3. Hold onto money. Buy iPhone 5s/6 and go back to iPhone 4 in the meantime.

So what it boils down to is they both appear to be excellent phones...so probably won't make a difference which one you choose.

Pretty much.

Get the One if you like great design and high quality build.

Get the S4 if you love its new gimmicks.

My boss who has a blinded hate towards Android phones (cause they're not Apple) was impressed when he had a play on my One today. Can't be bad if it's turning even the most ignorant of phone users :p

I haven't bothered too much with the camera, but as an example photo for people who are curious, here you go:

I love great design and quality build. That's why I went for the Z :)

Anyway GSMarena did a similar comparison between all 3 of the top droids, and came to a similar conclusion - all 3 are great, just pick your preference.

On your HTC One do you have a little bit of light bloom at the top of the screen in the middle?

Got my s4 today, it's nice. .. Can't say it's too much different from my s2, but I didn't expect many differences.

Do any of these new phones have a god damn notification light? Why the fuck they got rid of that is beyond me, bought the HTC 8X which has a notification light when it is charging (red light) and fully charged (green light) but doesn't use the light for notifications. It really pisses me off having to unlock my phone to check if I have messages etc.

The Galaxy S3 certainly does I would assume the S4 does as well...
Ive set mine to flash a blue light when e-mail arrives and a red light when a text arrives.

Had my Nexus 4 for a couple of months now and for £250 its probably the best phone I've had, love the look and feel of it and still one of the best phones on the market and updates direct from Google.

Very very happy with this phone and will be sticking with it for a while.

I will feel very bitter in the future when I buy the next phone which will probably cost £500 since I refuse to be on a £32 month contract for 24 months.

One has a notification light, can be cutsomised to blink on e-mail, missed calls, texts, alarms, notifications etc. No need to unlock the phone.

Two things I would love to see on the next iPhone. Notification Light/s and the ability to set a schedule on email collection. Why I cant have push email between 08.00 and 22.00 and then nothing overnight is beyond me. Having to either remember to turn it off manually or set my phone to silent overnight is a pain in the arse.

Do you not want mail, or not want mail notifications? I'm struggling to understand why you wouldn't want mail to be delivered, but I can see why you wouldn't want to know about it (which is configurable in the "do not disturb" function).

While in the Office for example I do not need my phone to push mail as I am in front of a PC so having it push my email is just wasting battery. So like I could do on the Blackberry I want to be able to set my phone to grab my work emails only when I want it too. I can do it manually or I could add people as a favorite contact and use DND which means I still get Phone calls. But I do not see why I can't schedule it like on other devices.

Is there no Llama equivalent for iPhone?

Last time I looked no. Developers blame the lack of Access to Apple Apps which are protected. I might need to look for Jail Break apps.
