I'm really not sure about the HTC One's ultrapixel camera

Do Ultrapixels deliver?
http://connect.dpreview.com/post/8068966118/htc-one-camera-review

Camera comparison with HTC One, S4, iphone 5, and some Nokia piece of crap:
http://connect.dpreview.com/post/92...sunggalaxys4-vs-htcone-vs-iphone5-vs-lumia920

For me, capturing detail is important, and no matter how big the pixels are, 4MP just doesn't cut the mustard. I capture mainly during the day, so low-level light or flash photography isn't a major sell for me. So now I don't know what phone to get. And I don't want to walk round with a separate camera and phone everywhere I go. Maybe the S4 with its 13MP....but...the HTC One is a better phone. Damn it. Maybe I'll hang on to the S2 for a wee bit longer...

I agree a phone cannot replace a camera. I took a lot of pictures on holiday with my phone because it was easier. The pictures looked great on my phone and my iPad but look horrible on my PC. Anywhere I go now where i want to take pictures it is a camera job. And my camera now also lives in my bag which is with me almost everywhere too.

Considering the HTC One "Nexus" version is at least at first US only, HTC has some good news... HTC is considering offering the vanilla Android as a download for "regular HTC One" owners. That is downright awesome. Even though the article states they are investigating, honestly looking at how easy it is to install a new ROM yourself I highly doubt HTC can't find a way to offer that download. Surely even the large Android updates offered usually through OTA do a similar install process as a full ROM. Anyhoo, the link:
HTC Considering Pure Android ROM for Current HTC One Owners
http://www.technobuffalo.com/2013/05/31/htc-one-jelly-bean-rom/

Returning to the topic of this thread, I would personally go for a HTC One. Spec-wise there is barely a difference, but the HTC One is about a billion times sexier and the possibility of a post-purchase pure Android install is just awesome.

I voted for the S4, but I ended up going for the HTC One after all. Lovely screen, unbelievably great sound from the speakers and the camera is fucking brilliant in low light (IE Indoors) even without flash, even if it isn't the most ultra-mega-pixel-super-detailed image.

Yeah I switched from an S3 to the HTC One myself too. The S4 was disappointing in my opinion maybe purely the fact they didn't change the design in any major way and if you didn't know the specifics it just looked like an S3. I've found the battery life, design and build quality was so much improved over the S3.

Got the HTC One now and find it a nice phone, however the GPS keeps going nuts when I'm using RunKeeper. Either I'm running through houses at 30mph and zig zagging to make sure I hit each one, then when I get to the bottom of the hill I just bee-line straight across two fields and probably through some trees/barns too or this shit gone totes cray.

Didn't have this problem with my Acer Liquid Metal!

Hmm tbh Nate I only really use the GPS for Sav Nav but I've not noticed any issue. Back with the original Galaxy S the GPS on that was awful. I assume you've updated it to the latest firmware?

In this case I'd also try another running app. E.g. Endomondo or Sports Tracker, just to make sure it isn't the app's coding at fault.......

Just ordered an S4 after seeing a friend's phone. Finally getting rid of the cheap and clunky abortion of a phone that is the Xperia.

Lulz. The Sony is too cheap so you're buying a Samsung? Logic fail.

Yep, it's a piece of crap. Turns itself off if you move it. locks up so the battery has to be removed, drops calls all the fucking time. That's if it even gets that far.

I know people buying non-Sony products keeps you up at night but don't let it get to you.

Arrived today, smashing stuff. Nice and fast and I can use Sky-go on it (which the Xperia also failed at) It also does not switch itself off if you look at it or make a loud noise!

Yeah, poorly made tat.

I'd suggest user error in that case, I'm on my 4th without such issues, the other half is on her 3rd.

Lose connections in the sliding cover are hardly user error...

Neither are kernal panics.

I had that exact problem with my Desire HD, my One has been absolutely spot on for GPS though, even get accuracy down to a few feet in my house which generally has crap reception. HTC's could possibly be a bit hitty-missy with their GPS?

I'm thinking about taking the phone to a repair shop and seeing what he can do. If something goes wrong then hopefully I'll be covered for a new phone at least(which I guess will have the same problem anyway :D)

Has anyone here used the private phone repair guys? Thoughts?

Whats up with it? Missed it in all the moaning about thread location.

A mate dropped his S3 and cracked the screen, I think the replacement was about £120 but he got it fixed on parts only as a favour. Works fine now. Not sure about software issues though, my Xperia would flid out at pretty much anything and that was on the stock Android installation, I didn't think about taking it for a repair and just put down to the usual Sony bad design/construction and was part of a shopping list of faults.

Yeah, if it's old and you don't mind all that much if it goes wrong then you could try a different android ROM, a few people on here have done them. I know I had huge problems with GPS on an old Samsung with an early Android version.

You are taking a new phone to a repair shop??? No, get it replaced by whomever you purchased it from, it's faulty.
