nothing more than an extradition case in terms of our legal system,
But it isn't a a straight forward extradition case, it is a request for a chat. He hasn't been charged with anything so why would we want to arrest him and force him to go to them?

The evidence is clearly extremely shaky, as mentioned, the girls were bragging about it until they found out he was doing two of them. A judge has already thrown the case out of court once, the girls have changed their minds umpteen times.

Like I said, if our government break the law trying to send him to Sweden they can all throw themselves off a bridge. They should all be removed from office.

He has every right to seek and be granted political asylum because he is being persecuted for upsetting governments by releasing the truth. If we then attack the embassy to get at him then we are committing an act of war.

Not really, because the state of the world is already so pre-fucked I'd much rather sit on the fence and let them fuck it up whilst I live in blissful ignorance of what state of cuntishness the unintelligent morons running various governments get themselves into. Ecquador are clearly a bunch of fucking cockjugglers based on their actions, so they can join in with the rest of the morons.

Frankly I find it far better to plead ignorance than to make myself look like a twat by pretending to a) know anything about this case b) know anything about politics c) know ACTUALLY what's going on and d) care about it vocally.
Each to their own though.

You should certainly care about the president it sets with regards to embassies, not only in the UK but for UK citizens and foreign nationals seeking asylum abroad, even at our own embassies.

To be honest, I find it more disturbing that people can be extradited for interviews to any EU state that wants to dick someone around than anything else.... especially in the face of the interviewee specifically stating he'd do a live video interview, or answer written questions through his legal representative.

Ok, so back that up with an explanation please.

Not true. Lets look at the whole thing as specified by you:

What are you trying to say then? That "we've acted in a legal manner"? Yes. Yes we have. We've probably obeyed the law, to the letter.

But not the spirit eh? It's an abuse of our legal system. An obvious one. Politically motivated.

Did you really pull out the "but itz t3h lawz!!!!!" excuse for justifying obvious political persecution?

That's weak. Especially for you.

The letter of the law is quite simple really, as Sweden is listed as a category 2 country - http://www.cps.gov.uk/news/fact_sheets/fs-extraditionpart2/. The spirit of the law isn't in question either because while a lot of you like the idea of throwing the US in to the debate it isn't really part of the argument since it is only really seen as UK -> Sweden, it is also clear that the various appeal judges agree that the sections in the above link have been meet and the extradition should go ahead. He also probably can't go to the ECHR yet for the very same reason, they also are unlikely to find a problem with the extradition because again it involves the UK -> Sweden. If the US then requests an extradition he would be on better ground to go to the ECHR but then to me it is probably easier for the US to come to this country and request the extradition of Assange.

There may well be some political persecution involved but that in no way means people should forget there are now possible questionable criminal actions in three countries UK, Sweden and the US.

Over to you Scouse, try no to strangle yourself with the string when you bang your drum.

but it's teh lawz!!!!

Well done. Your argument has been used by despots and tyrants for generations...

It IS the debate. None of us would be arguing if average Joe was being extradited to face questioning over sex crimes otherwise, would we.

The whole discussion is about political persecution. It's not right to persecute someone - regardless of what the law says, oh Judge "Embattle" Dredd...

If you say so, but then you couldn't come up with any better system other than making yourself a dictator and making judgements on personal feelings.

Actually it is you that is acting as Judge Dredd, I've left it to the various different judges at different levels to actually judge the validity of the extradition....you know the experts.

He's probably out of the country already.

A trap door in the basement. Ecuadorian consular staff have been digging tunnels. You may notice more dirt than usual in the front yard. Trap door into the sewers. A tiny boat. A lamplit rat-infested journey through smelly dark passages and tight crevices...

Hasn't he agreed to face the charges in Sweden as long as the US (fucking cunts) do not try and press charges and extradite him? Personally I am ashamed. We are just fucking materialistic puppets of those cunts over the water.

Spot on. He is happy to take his chances in Sweden but the Swedes refuse to be drawn on the possibility of extradition should the Yanks demand it. It's a fucking disgrace, he isn't running from the law, he is just scared he won't be given a fair chance by Sweden and carted off to America shortly after.

This makes me scared. I really fucking hate those cunts in the US. Let him be tried for sexual stuff here in the EU. Then, give him a week to move around before the cunts that rule the EU get their hands on him. A total fucking shambles. In all seriousness what rights do we have? None it seems.

They have done the same shit to a couple of our own, carted them off to the States on bullshit charges and denied them bail, the U.K. courts had zero backbone and just did as the politicians asked.

Btw Deebs, don't be suprised if you are denied a visa to visit America one day. There is a fair bit of anti-american sentiment on these forums and as the registered owner of the forum you will be held responsible. :D :p ;)

Judges in this country can only rule on law.

This isn't a legal argument. It's more important than petty law.

It has nothing to do with backbone and again far too many of you seem to be attempting to expand this legal ruling to cover possible action by the US, to me they must and have been separated. What Sweden has requested clearly has achieved the prima facie level required to proceed with his extradition to Sweden. I'm no fan of the extradition act over all since I tend to think it might of suffered a slight miss understanding/miss selling for the reasons that are given for extradition plus it also seems rather favourable to the US but again this is a moot point.

Strange for something that isn't a legal argument there sure seems a lot of moaning about the law in this case....Quasi law for the Dredd.

Legally speaking I think the plan to invade an embassy to take him would be defeated by a judicial review.

1. Its incompatible with a prior treaty.

2. This goes way beyond the spirit of the 1987 act.

So barring that Ecuador can either appoint him as embassy staff or use the diplomatic pouch method to get him out of the UK.

To interfere in either of those processes would breach the Vienna Treaty and leave all our diplomatic staff around the world in peril.

Basically no matter how much the US bitches about it theres really nowt we can do.

I thought the BBC really showed itself to be a pawn of govt today reporting the invasion thing as a minor beurocratic detail :p

also...Assange has *not been charged* with anything. The statement by the UK Foreign Minister is lies. Assange will be speaking in front of the Embassy at 2pm on Sunday.

surely if he speaks infront of the embassy he'll just be arrested? the path infront of it and the building itself is not ecuadorian, only a specific part of the building is I believe (that part not being the front)

I'm interested if the UK government has actually stated officially that it even said anything about using the Diplomatic and Consular Premises Act 1987? Again not that the UK government needs to use the Act since getting out of the embassy will be nearly impossible, the methods you've suggested Rynnor were covered earlier and they generally won't work. I also said earlier that our extradition treaty with the US is stronger than it is with Sweden so even if they went to the length of actually getting him extradited they stand a good chance of getting it directly from the UK rather than Sweden, but personally if they really want him I suspect they'll get him no matter what happens.

Ironically I think the strongest charge that can currently be put against him at the moment is breaking his bail conditions ;)
