I miss the sense of community, at times now it feels like every man for himself. The lack of real exp groups (not those silly powerlevel ones) and selfish attitude that the design of ToA helped create has really killed the game for me at the moment. Too many people playing for the items etc... instead of playing for fun.
Best way to put it, fun is something rare these days.

I miss:

Snow crabs from 20-28 with the odd risk of getting Veeshan'd.

Old pals like Negura, Gerula, Davey, Obsessive, Dragons of the North, the original Aesirs Blade line up, Delacia and many more gone to pastures new or far, far away.

Real exp groups in Spindlehalla.

Real exp groups at Lair.

Real Exp groups.....

Spamming mezz and stun.

Talking to other guilds in /as without whines.

Keep takes at level 15.

Thanes being welcomed to groups as "just another player, any will do".

Theres more I miss, but heck, I cant see us rolling back to 1.38 where we were all equal, and all had fun.

I remember helping Sycho get his 50 epic. I remember seeing Zarff and thinking he was easy RPs - how foolish that was. I remember fighting SBs just after the RA patch and the winner was usually the last one to IP. I remember Boney and Blaen helping me do a Legion hunt, just cause they were nice. I remember when Easy was the first 50 Armsman on the server. I remember RvR at lvl 17, getting twatted by Cuba and Plankton. I remember Hrod dinging 1million rps. I remember hrod b4 teh pink. I remember a one-man guild called <Public Enemy> .... what was that annoying friar called again? I remember everyone dissing mckfly and najwa. Oh Najwa, you were the best. Gods of Albion, Lost Souls, Eye of Odin.

Sheesh, now I feel old. I shudder to think how many afternoons/evenings I stood beside the tree camps, asking how many ppl were on the 'list'. I remember trying to keep a list <wince>.

So, game is not what it used to be, but neither is nostalgia ;)

everyone still disses najwa/flesh/euthanasia though. :p

I´ll agree with Oro, memories are fun but it´s basicly the same today, only real idiots I´ve run into lately are necromancers, I am convinced that all sense and sensibility gets lost when they enter shademode

Soloing Nisse and his 4 adds solo for the first time.

I hate RA's.
I hate RA's.
I hate RA's.
I hate RA's.
I hate RA's.

Um...I think you get the picture...
Life before RA's was good. RA's introduced more scope, but most definately introduced utter selfishness.

I remember :

- when I was afraid to talk in guild chat, afraid to say something stupid, hihi, talk to much nowadays

- when I was afraid to go to galpen, and to myrkwood, the most dangerous zone they said, at night horrible mobs appeared there

- the nights I spend in spindel, the pm's I got there : please can you come ress me, the happiness when we got a drop there, never looked at the quality. The fun we had there, with Durgi, Carnalito, Ucallme with his sweet troll never could write down the name, and sooo many others who aren't appearing on my friend list anymore

- and of course Yggdra, still my favourite place in mid, when undead camp was the place to be to find a group, the albs and hibs I tried to get in the morning (for breakfast I said) and the big fun we had, even with the wipe outs. And yes Hug like Bashir said, the central place with the fat healer who took all our money

- me getting lost in the frontier and soo afraid when I saw a keep thinking I was in alb or hib

- my first rvr, think I was level 20 or so, when I was shaking for fear behind the computer

- well it took me about a year to take cerbie to 50 and a few months to level my other characters but the joy I had with cerbie will never be the same with whatever character I start

- the pm's I got from blej : "come to raumarik, wow" "come to XXX keep to take it back"

- the cg's we had when we made groups to go to malmo, remember ??? we started together those days

I agree with Chodax, its all about fun, getting a good laugh, taking everyone in your group (we only needed a healer not even worried about a shaman, don't think we bothered about buffs then) and after a while you knew the leechers in the realm (not naming anyone but I bet we all know them), hmm we even had a laugh with them, no need for "opted" groups to go on rvr and no need to focus, you bashed when you saw an ennemy and if you died well you went back..

I still think the game is nice, tried a few other games meanwhile, but still the set up of the game, the graphics, the history behind it, the mobs its real cool, afterall it are the people in it that make it horrible sometimes, and make it look like real life, where you have to prove yourself to be accepted.

I remember logging into Beta for the first time as a norse viking .. running around Vasudheim without a clue. A friendly swedish thane (was quite impressed with the spell's he could do, lol) toke the time to teach my friend and me, how to chat hehe .. + he gave us 25 silver each so we could get some armor. He was a god to us :) Then after endless death's we finnaly got to Huginfel (on last day of beta) and we ran into a troll. He asked us if we would join him in RvR since it was the last day and all ... our reply was: wtf is RvR ?

Bring back beta :) ... wait a min.. we are playing beta !!

remember being so impressed with the first lvl 50 guy i saw, got talking to him and he gave me a drop from spindel for my SB (who is still lvl 20 ^^) - made my day.

the first time i saw hibs outside svasud and thought they were albs (had never seen a hib before then :p) and ran into svasud shouting 'albs outside, albs outside' - then got shot down with a 'its hibs u bloody idiot' :p

was never around for the 'early' days, wish i was though, sounds like a hell of a lot of fun :(

:( really missing the old days now:(

killing tomtes and getting wiped

seeing my RL mate who got me into DAoC come up to me in East Svealand with his lvl 26 Warrior dressed in green chain armour and I was in awe.

Going on my first keep raid at lvl 28

learning about CC in Spind the hard way

Not having a sodding clue what I was doing and not racing to 50 the most efficient way possible but actually enjoying each lvl.

DO NOT MISS: MALMO LISTS

i remember in open beta, with my wizard (Tlb) and dying my cloak a 1s red at like lvl 4 and feeling rich cos noone else had any robes or cloaks. i remember first seeing a phoenix legion group out side camelot, purp con and in chain etc and thinking "holy shit, those guys are awesome!", and then a few days/weeks later wearing there emblem on my back and feeling invicible :D i remember hunting with Lunar and Jupitus and Drac occasionally too, and i remember albs and hibs banding together during open beta to try and take notts (i think) and how everyone was shouting "dont attack them, dont attack them" when we met the hibs in odins :D i also remember some fun times in yggdra with my scout after release, aswell as some great times with Terilith in Order of the Knights Templar... too many good times to list really before SI came out, then it went a bit down hill :(

Heh... Malmo. I remember spending ages waiting for lists...then I eventually was on holiday, and spent an entire weekend there. I made the list. And I maintained it for 2-3 days solid (at Yar area). I was there to see a dozen or more people level to 50, and eventually got to 49 or so and ran to Galp to suicide and go do my epic quests to 50.

Somewhere, in a pile of paper, are 3 A4 pages listing names, alts, class and level of a LOT of people. I went from level 45 or so to 49 in 2 days...fastest I've ever levelled. I swear that after that I knew the AI of those puppies off by heart. I would fight by being MA, and slamming/taunting any of them that went for a caster/healer. And that was in the days of no endurance regen. I remember taking 4 purples at one point and have 2 hit, 1 I blocked, and 1 got parried. I swore it'd be a whipeout...but the healers/shamans did their work, the casters nuked, and the other tanks did their job. That, is something I will always remember. True Midgard teamwork.

Hey, it wasn't often I got to do anything other than make a closer examination of the Hibernian grass... :p You have to excuse a troll who finds other corpses around and realises he's not one of them. :D

I remember Thidranki, after SI, when people were only starting to learn the deadliness of Necros. I have a nice screeny of a bunch of Necros on the Mid Thid Bridge.

if you made a thread like that on here people would flame you like crazy. back then players had the right idea, have a laugh and a good time, take out any frustration on goa... now it seems there is that much frustration we have to aim it at ourselves (as players) and even at realm mates, such a shame when you step back and look at it like that :(

I remember the binding at Prydwen Bridge and the run to sauv :), with 10 beggars in tow...

A whole group struggling to to kill a Cailleach Guard, which ofc now you can solo.

Aggroing the vendors in DF everytime you bought a new sword, and entered attack mode to show it off

refusing every inf or scout to exp groups cos they seemed to suck :flame:

In Midgard:

Levelling near Vasudheim, Mularn and Audliten, and wondering how on earth to get hold of a cloak.

Feeling excitement at logging on (anticipating Vasudheim music).

Jealously when my fiance was given 1 gold and could buy a whole set of armour and new weapon, with cash to spare.

Nisses Lair with constant death from the silly tomtes (who didn't look like gnomes then).

Getting chased and killed by spindly rock crabs.

Farming willows in Myrkwood Forest with my man.

Killing my first snow crab.

Being chased out of Spindelhalla by those big purple trolls, whilst laughing my arse off.

Being able to find a group that you could have a good laugh with, and weren't about all about power levelling (and no throwing silly tantrums when a death occurred)!

A /who 50 coming up with nothing.

No encounters with miserable know-it-alls, or those who take the game so seriously that it is no longer fun (hence why I didn't continue playing).
