I think I have more compassion towards those where I have experience than those where I have none. I appreciate and understand the effort it can take to get over an addiction and will not condem anyone for not finding their way yet.. If however I am asked for advice I don't tend to sugarcoat either.

I'm confidant you'd agree that there is a world of difference between asking for advise hand having it forced apon you?

THe people that I take an issue with are those that fall into the last catagory, especially due to the simple fact that they should really know better and have a greater foundation for the complexity from which such issues arise.

There are numerous mental illnesses that cause people to eat too much, much the same as those that cause people to eat too little.
At the risk of opening a can of butthurt worms here, don't you think mental illness could be used as an excuse for simply being a whopper? Similarly how all kids have ADHD these days, when in reality they're just spoilt little cunts.

Not that I'm saying eating habits related to mental illness don't exist mind, they obviously do. Just that it could be somewhat of a cop out for simply not having the motivation to look after yourself.

@Billargh potentially it could be an excuse... However I wish that being morbidly obese was treated with the same care and sensitivity as bulimia or anorexia.

I for one know why I have overeaten, I know why I overeat and if I had been offered the same help as someone with a more 'acceptable' eating disorder maybe just maybe I wouldn't still struggle every day... I get tired of trying and when life slips me a curve ball some times I am in no position to catch it and run with it.... I am in precisely that situation at the moment.. I know what to I know how to do it but I am tired and miserable and so the viscous circle begins... I also know that this is a process and in a relatively short period of time I'll kick back... Pull myself up and sort myself out.... However it isn't today... Today I need everything I have to get out of bed and do my job because the moment I stop doing that is the moment I stop full stop.

I hope that helps some of you understand the complexities behind obesity, I could be a cutter, I could punish myself by gorging and wrecking my insides by vomiting, I could eat nothing or exercise to the extreme, I could self flagillate, lose myself in narcotics...

I have a friend who used to be huge, then she went on a super diet, and now she's pretty much bulimic, she has really bad acid damage on her teeth, and she eats 1 meal a day, being a salad and she's generally turned into quite a nasty piece of work, with her new friends that tell her that she's doing the right thing, because she wants a 'Californian image.'

she's probably lost like 8-9 stone, possbily more, and I'd argue that it's done more damage than good, but 'she looks good' so it's okay.

Image = Everything, imagination = nothing.

Didn't force any advice on anyone. Look at the thread from the beginning. Moriath started complaining because he didn't like people calling people fat and stated that there are more ways to get fat than eating too much. The rest of the thread is a reaction to the fact the some people can't handle reality.

I still stand by this:
I was thinking about this last night. I've held myself back from calling some people I know on their shocking weight gain. It'd just upset them.

But this is the internet. And more than that this is a discussion forum. You've got to expect people to hold back less because it's part of the very reason people come here. You want to know what people think for real? Come here. Don't get angry when you don't like what they think - discuss with them why, talk to them, debate.

For the sake of theoretic arguement,
What are the chances of reaching a state where you no longer have any motivation to look after your self, without any enviromental factors and influence?

Be it poor up bringing, genetics, bullying, etc etc.....

Even "Lazy" comes from something, (what you might call lazy, I would be inclined to call apathetic)they might well "look" the same, but theres a HUGE difference! it's finding the reasons as to why is where you find the core of the issue, simply saying that people are simply lazy is, jsut too easy...but often also the most "logical" for someone who hasn't had to struggel with such challenges. I'm not having a go at you fyi, I'm just saying, it's usually a wee bit more dynamic and complicated than meets the eye, even though general media and some politicians would like you to think otherwise....

Watched that gif for about a minute so I could get past the initial funny (which it is) and start thinking about it.

It gives me so many mixed emotions. Yep, how can she do it to herself. Yep, it's kinda a tragedy. Yep, it's kinda disgusting. But most of all I think it makes me sad on a number of different levels.

However, as a politician in the post she's in it will be criminal if she doesn't lead by example and lose the weight.

"My god this woman goes on and on. I'll just have a piece of gum"

But i guess it's a lot more fun to laugh at her. And it seems like we will know every step this politician takes, at least everything she puts in her mouth...
Such a tragic disgusting criminal she is...

Let the witch hunt begin!

What if she's the Boris Johnson of Belgium, and everyone loves her because of the way she is.

however her head needs to be in the right place.
Yeah, as in anywhere but the fridge.

Besides this is all hypocritical, you wouldn't jump to the defence of say an ex-peado being appointed head of child welfare would you?

Loooooooooooooooooool so being fat is now a crime?

Ministers usually have no background on their jobs anyway.

I think people miss the general point of ministers, they rarely these days have much experience in the role they're put into, they have armies of advisors and stuff to do their job for them, it's just important to have the right faces in the right roles.

I would if he had the credentials to do the job.

I think being an ex-paedo would also mean that you've got the worst credentials possible to do the job, regardless of what you've studied.

Not really. You're classified as ex, meaning used to, as in "did your time" so it means to me(as it was a personal opinion question) that you're on equal line with everyone else.

That means that if you're qualified to do the job then go ahead, just don't fiddle kids.

What's an "ex-paedo" anyway? It's not really something you can be an ex of is it? You either are one or you aren't one, surely.

You can't be arrested for "being a paedo" - you can be arrested for abusing a child or possessing/distributing/producing child porn and probably any number of other abhorrent, child-related crimes. When they read the charges out in court they wouldn't say "is a paedo". Therefore, it's not possible to be an "ex-paedo".

I suppose you're ok with them becoming teachers and scout-leaders as well?
