I recently married my long term GF (for my sins!!) and shes had to put up with me being online for most evenings for the last 5 years. Since my initiation into the online world (via UO) i have had just about every argument under the sun with her trying to justify to her my time online.

Reading this thread has moved me to offer my top tips for blagging an evening's gaming, whilst keeping "she who must be obeyed" passified.

1) Purchase a soppy film (or 2 ) from the local DVD shop after work.
2) Buy her favourite dinner & desert before getting home, then get her to make it for you both.
3) Tell her you have some "Overtime" work to do on the computer and you cant be disturbed.
4) Book her a monthly membership to the local GYM.
5) Text her friends hinting that an evening out with everyone would be nice, then bail at the last moment.
6)Always be offline by 10:00pm (This leaves time for talking and other adult things!)
7) Minimise shouting ,swearing whilst on TS,VENT etc. Swearing & shouting draws attention to you and ultimately moaning and nagging will follow)!!
8) Dont throw her old gossip/trash mags, leave them strategically place on the living room table. trust me they cant resist reading them over and over! ( (particuarlly effective ploy!!)
9) Buy her a new mobile phone and put her friends and mothers phone numbers on it only. (Using the BT landline would cost you an arm & leg!)
10) If the whining that evening is particuarlly stlong..Tell her you off to the gym and hit the local internet cafe for a quick fix. (Emergency use only this one!)

additionals
1) Promise to do something 'nice together on the weekend'.
2) Negotiate playtime rather than just playing. Call her up at work and say, I love you, and ask if there is anything important planned for tonight. As soon as she says 'not really' then say, ahh great, could you please let me play tonight for a couple of hours then?
3) Strictly passification but helps for future blags - If you get pissed and stay up until 3 in the morning trying to kill horner, go to the spare bed rather than wake her up - otherwise its hell to pay for at least 2 days after.
4) Buy in alchohol, say a couple of bottles of wine, open one and say you only want a small glass and leave the rest to her. NB. This can back fire if she drinks too much and gets argumentative later on in the evening,
5) Start playing, when she asks what you are doing on the pc, just reply 'oh looking at some hardcore pornography, i must say, your mum has scrubbed up well'. Let her know a minute later that you were joking and just playing DAoC. She might see the funny side and let you play, or she might kill you ofc.
6) Tell her youve been thinking about going on holiday/getting a (cute) pet/buying a new house or car/redocorating etc but you are not sure what is best, ask her to check out the internet for stuff and compile a full page report on the best colours/models/species/destinations/hotels etc.
7) Buy her some new shampoo or other beauty products (ouch!)
8) Tell her a new series of big brother, celebrity big brother, x-factor or some other equally vacuous and hollow tv experience is on the box (this works better if its the truth!)
9) Fake illness, injury, or even a bereavement
10) Offer her no-strings oral sex - the great thing is that when you have to fulfull your part of the deal she won't be heartless enough not to 'finish you off'. If you dont take a tipple from The Furry Cup, just glue porridge oats around you mouth and say you have herpes when payback time comes.
11) Fake an argument about something else, not too serious, not too minor - just long enough so that she wont try and make up within you're play time. You will have to really go to town on the humility afterwards, but the great thing is that you really didnt give a toss about the fake argument at the start, you may even get a make up shag out of it as well. Bonus!
12) Hide her pills and tell her what youve done, and that it's time you had a baby (or another baby) - she'll be all evening looking for them while you can chill with a bit of zerg surfing. NB If this one backfires you wont be playing DAOC for another 18 years!

Me and my wife just got a baby last week so we have to play a little less frequent now, I don't mind thou. Spending time with our daughter is much more rewarding so I do make time for it when she's awake. My wife play a lot less then me, but she still manages to squeeze in some playtime when daughter is sleeping.

games are games and they do nothing more than entertaining U and only U

i dont think u can be proven like a true social person if u speak on vent and TS alot irl is way difrent and maybe faaar harder, in a game all are friendly (not me !!!!1) in rl they arent . my point is that a game from real life is 2 difrent ways nothing is equal in it and both things have many difrences

ok, about the highlighted part, I don't agree with you. It's very easy to get socialised and get friends real life. From my experience if you go in same environments all day with the same people, and you don't try to be one bit social, they will try to push you to be social. Not in a direct way ofc, but trying to point out there's a party/meeting/dinner going on this and that day, at this and that place.
In games it's about how active you are, while in some competitive games (like DAoC) it also requires same goals aswell as skill in order to get "friends". In DAoC people can act rather hostile for little to no reason. In real life there is actually some sort of respect (if you respect others) in most cases.

Girlfriends and DAOC are a funny combo. You really have to know what you are doing.
I lost my ex-girlfriend probably to DAOC (well it certainly didn't help :>) but then again, the relationship wasn't really perfect

I learnt a few lessons, and starting going out with a great woman that I'm now engaged to (wedding in 4 months ) who - puts up - with my game playing Like others have posted, it is a give / take situation. You can play some nights, not others. You have to give your girlfriend as much attention as she needs to be happy, but you also have to be happy too. It's all about compromise and striking the right balance.

At the end of the day - it is a waste of time - but an enjoyable waste. I have painting, flooring, tidying that should have been done many months ago, but between the choice of D.I.Y. and DAOC, DAOC has won everytime so far :>

There had been a few harsh words said when an ML raid overruns by many hours or the moderna group needed your toon and you over do it, or you didn't give enough warning for her to make other plans - but you learn.

Life is good at the moment. Enjoy DAOC, but make sure you get your priorities right. Keep your girlfriend's happy and they will keep you happy, and hopefully that includes attention-free DAOC playing time in the deal somewhere :>
