It isn't, even using their own figures it'll bring in £6.6bn on top of the £150bn that is roughly spent already on health each year.

In reality it needs to be tackled from all directions including providing more money, improve efficiency and people actually taking fucking responsibility for their own health.

The Government needs to stop cutting the budget more like.

Combination of both, improve efficiency and do more preventative work, encourage children from an early age to not be lazy face feeders.

Funds are better spent preventing rather than patching up.

As I've said countless times, the economic shit causes these questions to be raised but no-one actually gives proper answers.

The real answer is proper social mobility.

Services like my own are supposed to help encourage them and help them to see things in a more positive way, but services like mine are instead used as cheap alternatives to Social Workers and end up dealing with Child in Need and Child Protection issues, we also cheaper than Teachers and the Police and end up dealing with Anti Social Behaviour issues and Behaviour in School issues, all comes down to money :(

Yeah, we've been over this, my mum does the same job as you IIRC.

She says exactly the same.

8 years ago, she was dealing with kids who needed a proper sleeping pattern, now she's dealing with child protection issues, it's kinda ridiculous tbh.

She sometimes sits at home filling out numerous forms and stuff, she doesn't get paid enough for it.

My missus says the same, she's a primary school teacher but doubles up as a social worker - some of the things she tells me are horrific. I'm not talking about badly behaved self-entitled kids, I'm talking neglect / abuse / poverty / drug addicted parents etc. It's not isolated cases, it's long-reaching, poverty-driven social issues that's not going away anytime soon.

Yep agreed but its going to get worse year by year as less and less funding is given and more services and staff are cut. My own service soon undergoes yet another massive restructure and all the Academies and Schools in my area are facing big cuts next term

According to the Tories funding has increased.

What annoys me is why the media don't ask them how much the funding is per pupil. I bet that hasn't increased!

Well it is easy depending on what side of the argument you come down on to use a set that suits that argument. A good site is Full Fact and in this example Spending on schools up to 2020 you can see how both sides play their argument on schools.

Well yes that is my point exactly. Yes there is record investment in schools but there are also more schools and more pupils than before. Therefore you need to dig deeper than the overall figure. So spending per pupil to me is most likely the best driver to determine if spending is falling or increasing.

I just find it bizarre how more people are not concerned with the slow and steady destruction of the Public Services.

Because the weight of these cuts are borne by local councils, whose funding has been cut by central government. So the councils get the blame, not the government - which I think was the idea all along.

Also heard a lot of this from teacher friends, kids being left at school as early/late as possible in before/after school clubs, dirty uniforms and no food etc.

I know things can be tough, but how can you do that to your kid.

Every country moans about their health service, it's a bottomless pit, our local hospitals are awesome, we have the number one neurological ward around the corner, brand new hospitals, largest maternity hospital and largest teaching hospital, plus school of tropical medicine.
My mother had heart palpitations, saw a consultant in 12 days, it was nothing bad, just occasional with no pain.
They did every test under the sun, then changed her blood pressure medicine, been fine since.
I understand a lot of people wait, but I personally don't know anyone who hasn't anything but top notch service from the NHS,.

Not sure if you're getting this down south, but the Scottish Leader's Debate was on yesterday where a nurse gave Sturgeon an absolute roasting on live TV for being forced into using foodbanks at the hands of the SNP. The press and commentators were quick to smear the SNP (and not the Scottish Tory manifesto which mentions Independence 26 times where as the SNP's doesn't mention it once, much like the Tories don't mention the NHS or education once), however the general public didn't buy it and went through the supposedly povertry-stricken nurse's social media accounts. It turns out she lives a rather prosperous life here in Edinburgh and doesn't use foodbanks at all - it was a load of manufactured bollocks, and by whom? Cue all sorts of accusations of bias in the media, the BBC didn't even mention it on tonight's Reporting Scotland, rather they chose to ignore it and run with the "poor Nurse" SNP-bashing agenda that the BBC are so quick to resort to. She even publicly back-peddled on Facebook saying she was speaking "on behalf of all NHS nurses, not just myself". You can't trust anything in the press.

Sources (mostly toiler paper worthy rags):

Nurse 'forced to live off food banks' has online snaps of swanky lifestyle

'Foodbank' nurse who put Nicola Sturgeon on spot enjoys lavish trips to New York

Nurse who challenged Nicola Sturgeon hits out at abuse | Daily Mail Online - classic anti-SNP agenda acknowledging her exposed lie, yet still perpetuating an anti-SNP agenda even after it was exposed to be total bollocks

Steaks, champagne, holidays in New York and a fatty. Hardly "I can't feed myself" is it?

@Big G it was on radio 5 live as you described it - with the addition that the storm afterwards was fake and she is actually using foodbanks...

Shes on 23K...the meals and holidays were paid for by friends..if you earn 23K and need to regularly visit foodbanks..considering you are effectively means tested, then you need to sort your finances out.
