Nah, just have the bucket selected and then right click the lava source.

You can use them to make lava cells but you can't create a lave source.

Bit hard to explain. You can't pick up lava that isn't originally generated, or placed previously. All lava that is in the world is either a source, or flows.

Some examples;

The lava in the volcano only has a source at the top, the lava flowing on the side is not.

You find a pool of lava, you need to pick up from the original pool of it and can't pick up from one that is flowing from it.

The lava that flows from a single block sized hole; you can(probably) pick up the very start of that lava, but not the ones after that(even if they form a pool later).

Big note; when putting machinery to currents (low, medium, high), make sure via wiki that you know the maximum current they can take ;)

Otherwise -> explosion.

Is there any item block that can tell you how much of a drain there is on a solar array?

Finally figured out a self powering recycling machine for dirt and crap, roughly half the scrap goes to a generator that powers the recycler and the other half goes to a chest. Going to add a bunch of bat boxes to it at some point. It does have a single solar panel too for a little boost, just in case during the day.

The standard generator can. It can also be used as fuel in furnaces.

Moriath, your welcome to go and have a look at my recycler, it's under my marble house thing (That I haven't got around to furnishing! It works but I need to sort out some geo generators and phase lava in from the nether .

Lack of a reliable power source is fucking my recycler up. Gets a bit backed up during the night.

Will have to hunt some diamonds to get some phased lava going.

Build some wind turbines. Fairly cheapish and effective if you build a wind tower correctly :)

Due to where two of my quarries are...in the middle of a large body of water, I think I am going to power them with water mills and a few wind farms, I can then move all my solar arrays to my base, or even use them towards a medium solar array.

Gets pretty complicated! :)

Question about the server in general!

Does it need someone online for things to work?

I set up a bunch of electric furnaces last night hooked up to a solar array, they barely made a dent into the ore I put in, logged on for 10 minutes this morning and it chomped through the lot. Likewise my solar powered quarries hardling picked anything up.

In general, when you log off the server "unloads" the chunk you are in. Thus the machines stop working. This can be fixed with a dimensional anchor.

I'll visit everyones house today and leave two in a box by the door. One for the main house and one for any remote oil site you ave. Quarries keep chunks loaded automatically, but the pipes between the quarry and your house may have been unloaded if they are long. Use teleport pipes where possible.

Place the dim anchor in your main house/machine area. If possible please leave it set to 1 chunk, if needed extend it to 3x3 or 5x5 but not 9x9 please.

I use a 1x1 chunk anchor in my house and it keeps everything running inside and outside to the mini farms. It seems to keep the chunk and a number of neighboring chunks loaded.

I've done a tour of most houses, a few i think i missed tho....

I've noticed people are using buildcraft pipes almost exclusively. I personally use pneumatic tubes to item moving, but the logistics pipe mod ads alot of the functionality to the BC pipe system, if people want to have a toy with it :)

I use the wooden, stone, iron and diamond pipes. I don't really know how the pnumatic pipes work, I made a few but didn't use them.

I want to sort out the pipe from the nether but have no idea how they work! I googled it but couldn't find an awful lot.

I keep making my storage system and then have to start it again. I think I might spend a little time getting it right tonight. I made the mistake of having a 2 block height workshop and storage area, May have to revisit that idea...

Yeah, seems fine now.

Thought I better say, I set my ground thingy to 5x5 just to test something, I will reduce it tomorrow morning when I move my quarries. Got my new base nearly ready and started my sorting system properly. Poor planning on my part for base location!

Should be back online. Will check logs
Problem found.

Code:
An energy network pathfinding entry is corrupted.
This could happen due to incorrect Minecraft behavior or a bug.

(Technical information: energyBlockLink, tile entities below)
E: cpw.mods.compactsolars.TileEntityCompactSolarHV@10687a8e (553,88,-658)
C: ic2.core.block.wiring.TileEntityCable@3a42f9b7 (553,88,-658)
R: ic2.core.block.wiring.TileEntityTransformerLV@7867fec6 (552,88,-658)

Someone hooked up some transformers in a loop which caused a path error and ic2 fell over. Should be ok now tho i went out and had a nose at this persons power setup and it seems ok now ;)
