He's "Hollywood Ugly".

Otherwise perfect for the role though

Regarding Jaime and Bran, it's not an overreaction when you consider the possible repercussions for the Lannisters, they would be executed - not only because of the incest, but because it would put the legitimacy of the heir to the throne in question. I honestly can't think of a reason NOT to kill him if you are a fairly ruthless soldier, if he threatens your life, and your sisters.

Anyone bother watching this?

Unnecessary nudity. Unnecessary violence. Basic storyline. Not bad.

Having read the books, I may have a different outlook on the series than someone who hasn't. I'm of course not entirely sure how the show will portray things in the future but I can safely say that much of the violence will be senseless, but that is sort of the point. It's a show, set during a period of time in a world where the elites screw over the rest for power. There's going to be casualties, like there always are and most of them aren't going to be soldiers. I don't really know of any other way to display this than actually showing violence.

As for the nudity, I agree much of it was unnecessary, especially the lingering ass shots of Dany but nudity can't really be helped, remember "it's HBO, not TV" :p

I am interested in knowing what you consider to be an advanced storyline though, because even in the pilot to the uninitiated they have set up four major plot points - and it's just the tip of an iceberg.

edit: Wasn't there another thread in this forum?

It's just fanservice, which makes it feel a bit cheap - especially after they've used nudity twice in the show before where it served a purpose. I'm not opposed to it, or mind it much but it felt a bit unnecessary.

I don't know. It's nice to see for obvious reasons, especially when the actress is smoking hot. I think it also adds to the story. She is supposed to be desirable and he is supposed to be seen as a brute.

I'm sorry but that can never ever ever be described as unnecessary.

Since my yes got ignored, I've opted for a more drastic measure.

Second episode is made of win too! Less nudity, more plot. But a week for the next one! They should have double billed the first two.

Ep 2 was perfect! They really got the casting for Joffrey right, as all I want to do is punch him in the face.

Tyrion is also perfectly cast. I also thought the acting from Bean was spot on, the outrage and disappointment on his face when Robert let Cersei kill the direwolf was fantastic.

He is good in a lot of things, though most of what he acts in is awful unfortunately.

I think I am going to try and avoid it until it finishes now, I was disappointed that the episode finished, it felt like I had only been watching it for half an hour or so!

What I don't understand is why they cast some old hag for Catelyn. I can't remember if it was ever said in the books, but I always had the impression that she was fairly attractive and probably closer to 35 than 50.

What happens when Petyr Baelish starts crushing on her? Is that going to be believable?

I though she is pretty well cast really, you can tell she was probably quite attractive in her youth, which is what she should be.

Yep, life in the north is meant to have taken it's toll on her.

and Cersei is no beauty either tbh

book spoiler
that I find kind of strange. Cersei and Jaime are supposed to be some kind of golden folk (at least, that's how I read the books). That's why Jaime is so bummed out when his hand gets lopped off. It's not that it leaves him unable to fight (though that plays a part), but because he is physically marred.

yeah, i mean the guy who plays Jaime is pretty good, looks the "prince charming" part, but, from my take on the book, Cersei is supposed to be a beautiful queen, i mean shes not bad, but errr, could do better :p

I think Lena Headey was a good pick, sure she's not mythically beautiful but going by the first two episodes she got the character down already, which I think is far more important. I have the same opinion about the guy playing Jaime, he pretty much nailed the arrogant scoundrel sort of thing.

As for Catelyn, they recast her apparently. I think she works fairly well actually, and yes - living in a world without modern cosmetics ages you fairly fast. Just take a look at girls from Afghanistan etc. in their mid 20s they look like 30-40. Plus it would look fairly odd if she was 'younger', she falls in line with Sean Bean in age now quite nicely and they actually look like a pair.

My only real complaint regarding casting is Jon Snow, I don't know - I'm not feeling it with him, maybe he'll grow on me but he wasn't "love" at first sight like Arya, one of the few child actors that actually impressed me. I normally hate children in TV/Movies, not because well they are children but because the writing for them tends to be shit and they are used more as 'cute' than for any actor value.

They recast Catelyn after the pilot, originally it was Jennifer Ehle:

who's definitely fits the look of Cat better imo.

Agreed. I don't care about northern weather excuses, she is only two years older than Cersei but she looks like some ancient hag in comparison. No wonder Ned fathered a bastard.

Book spoiler.
Allegedly fathered xD

I have no problem with her acting btw, just her appearance. Rest of the cast is perfect so far I think.
