Short answer; If there's a direct result/point to it, bring it on.

Addition; If it goes into a "for something", no.

Non generic rant of tax;

Taxing needs to start to be a lot more direct and choosable.

For example; roadtaxes higher for those who own a car/lower for rest and vise versa for others.(they are the ones using it more) etc etc. (for car owners, think of it all the way through, you'd save on other crap if you didn't use it).

That way, if we need an x amount for roads, we'll be taxed for and only FOR the amount needed.

No thanks, we subsidise Europe more than enough already, if the smaller economies can't sort themselves out then why should I have to pay for it? Bad enough I am already having to bail out the banks with every fucking paycheque that I earn.

By the way; europe is a continent, not a country. Don't pack all countries into one ;)

Which of these nations am i from and do thrse nations hold the majority of europe?

Since you're saying you pay more(as a person) then i do and that you're supporting europe(not those countries).

Don't think so, you'd be whining twice as hard with Finnish taxes. Or even swedish :p

I was talking about EU contributions.

Oh and British taxes are pretty brutal, low income 22% tax + 9% national insurance, 20% VAT, highest fuel taxes in the world, gas and electric taxes, TV licence, road tax, insurance premium tax....

Taxed to fucking death. :p

While the whole thing has been reject by the 3 major countries of the Eu any way so it is a dead subject, in the UK it'll never be accepted considering how the EU is generally viewed. You'll also find that what is happening on the other side of the channel makes the whole EU subject even harder to swallow, after the trouble in Greece etc.

"The UK, Germany and France have all rejected the idea of direct EU taxes."

Theres that idea brickwalled.

Yeah it's not gonna happen, that much is clear, but it wouldn't be a bad idea if the tax was needed.

Can get it other ways though.

It would be political suicide if a UK government introduced VAT on childrens clothes or books, yet both are VATable in many parts of Europe. I can't see the idea being a starter really and, yes, if they did introduce it we should put a finger up and walk.

Finland's tax burden as a % of GDP is about 43%/
UK's tax burden as a % of GDP is about 36.6%.
Source: List of countries by tax revenue as percentage of GDP - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

That doesn't take into account indirect taxes such as duty (on alcohol, tobacco and fuel), VAT, TV License etc.

Many people in the UK would love the opportunity for the country to leave the EU but as you probably know, invoking a secession has only been possible since the 2009 Lisbon treaty. The UK is the main country that all the others watch with caution because they know that isn't committed to the "European Ideal" in the same way most other countries are.

Conspiracy theorists are looking in the wrong place. Instead of looking at the EU extending it's powers over countries, try looking at the UN's Agenda 21. It makes the EU power grab look like a town council meeting.
DSD :: Resources - Publications - Core Publications

The UN is trying to do no less than implement a single world government.

Yes, I am a conspiracy nut on this particular subject.

Yeah, think the usual vat is 23% around these parts. Then there's the rest of tax stuff(alcohol, tobacco, fuel). Fuel is around 1.4€-1.5€ / litre. Then there's the rest, like for example the very VERY stupid "taxing unemployed". Basically every unemployed person pays 20% tax, no matter what.

But the whole "which place has more tax" is a bit hard to discuss as living etc might be cheaper in the UK, but UK also has a bit of a different tax thing on living(think it's the council tax or some such).

UK 34.7 34.4 34.8 35.9 36.2 36.7 36.4 34.9 34.7 35.2 36.1 36.9 36.3

FI 45.7 47.0 46.3 46.1 45.8 47.2 44.6 44.6 44.0 43.5 44.0 43.5 43.0

Does that take into account the relatively attractive corporate rates that we have here?

I'm not sure it is so much a case of not being committed to the ideal as much as a complete lack of faith for anyone to actually manage to reach it.

Spain doesnt since the current 2007-2013 EU term. In fact its a balnaced country, it gives a similar ammount than it receives. That links referrs to the last 2000-2006 term.

Trust me. Part of my tedious job is advising on EU funds.

I will trust you, only because you love Ronaldo though! :D
