The sheer sharpness and resolving power does suggest that there is a serious megapixel on it's way....

Am I the only person that's thinking "what's the point in this body at this price?".

More than the 5D2 but with some of the 7D/5D3 features. I guess it's a 800 quid difference between this and the UK price of a 5D3.

For my personal needs, I'd take a second hand 5D MK2 than the 6D. I see no benefit in spending more.

My one reluctance is that my tripod is often close to or in the water which is ok with a remote but not so sure whilst using a phone.

This.

I'm using an IR transmitter with the iPhone and an app called 'NEX remote' which is a similar idea to the above. I'm very nervous about using it around water, but I have no choice because Sony don't have a cable release function on the NEX7 (bit of a fail). I'd rather drop a £10 cable release in the water.... ;).

What exactly do you need Tom? Simple cable release? Remote IR? Timelapse?

A basic remote IR does the trick for me, if I need to time it I can just use my phone to countdown and beep at me, no need to risk the phone :D

Something that does everything tbh. The only reason such features aren't already integrated into the camera is that selling remotes makes more money.

I have half a mind to go camping in the Forest of Galloway to get some nice shots of the Milky Way, but obviously this year the weather has made that impossible.

Processing but apparently it's being sent with priority shipping. When I comes I'll do the same all over this thread.

Actually Wazz, I ordered one too and compared it against my 17-55mm with IS.

Here's my test result with the 17-55:

And here's my test result with the 24-70, minus the IS of course:

DOESN'T LOOK THAT GR8 M8?

The fake ones are ropey at best, I had the proper Canon one way back yonder, but sold it due to lack of use.

Of course now I no longer have it...

I have the basic RS-N3 and it's very useful in certain situations and the other 90% of the time it stays in the bag. If I had the TC one I dare say I'd make more use of it.

I had an excellent one but left it at Buttermere (sounds like a blues song).

Photokina news:

Carl Zeiss to release autofocus primes for the Sony NEX / E mount system!!!

At looooooong last, the system is getting some very serious lenses:

Carl Zeiss 12mm f/2.8
Carl Zeiss 32mm f/1.8
Carl Zeiss 50mm f/2.8

All these in addition to the Carl Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 make for an excellent bag of primes, and not before fecking time. The same lenses will be available for the Fujifilm X mount, more over on the Zeiss blog.

There's also been an announcement that Hasselblad and Sony are going into partnership giving Hassy access to Sony's "low priced" camera stuff with Sony rumoured to fab medium format sensors with Exmor technology. Hasselblad's first camera is the "ultimate luxury" mirrorless offering which is simply a Sony NEX-7 tarted up (called the Hasselblad Lunar). At €5000, it looks like the biggest load of overpriced tacky bollocks. Some muppet will buy it, but it's no different to the NEX-7.

In Canon news, there is a Magic Lantern firmware on it's way for the 7D!
