That would involve taking it back and swapping it and obviously paying more. I'm not really sure I can be arsed. :(

Doesn't stepping up/down filters alter things a bit though? Or is that just stepping up?
A polariser, yes but not for a ND as the filter would be uniform throughout. HiTech do an excellent 10 stop as the Lee one is a little difficult to source.

So I'm safe to step up the 72 to 82? Why get the bigger one since it costs more? :p

You're better off getting the 82 and stepping down to 77 in case of vignetting.

^^ This (which is why I mentioned a step-down ring). You can see why the 10 stop slot in filters are so popular - just need the one and then buy adaptor rings for the filter holder.

Dude, this Sigma was on the NEX-7 when last I had it in my hands. Even in the shop, we were already exclaiming over how sharp iit is. Ofc, like that review says it can be better. A whole lot better in fact, but hey, it's a cheap and cheerful Sigma, and I think it's ace at that price.

Given the price difference I think I'll probably stick with this and just keep an eye out PP. I don't think I'm going to turn into a 10 stopper for a lot of stuff, I just wanted the option and ability to try it all out some time.

Ta for the info peeps!

It's going to be horrifically busy but going to head to a local park with my gear for a couple of hours since it's so bloody lovely out. Doubt I'll shoot much but you never know! Still obviously going to get back for Toon v Spurs, should be a good game that.

Well, my park shoot was a massive fail.

Forgot my big memory card, ended up going with my small and almost full one. So after about an hour or so I had no more space :(

Also spent a lot of time walking through long grass in shorts. This isn't very good for you if you're allergic to grass. Legs all blotchy and red and itchy like hell now. Gah.

Still, think I managed a couple of ok shots. Played around a little with the ten stop, if just for getting used to shooting in bulb mode and learning how to expose for it.

One thing's for sure is that each time I shoot with the 5D3 it impresses me more and more. It's *such* an impressive piece of kit to use.

just put the thing together and snapped off some shots. these are jpgs all at 200 ISO. Haven't worked out how to set the camera to raw mode yet, as I've literally just unpacked it...

Fuck fuck fuck. I want a small camera to carry around to replace my aging ixus 950is. Any recommendations?

Not bad at all for a first shot.

Better than your laundry.

I've tried that WB750 as I bought one for my dad a couple of days or so ago. Really nice kit. No RAW files though. 2,407 images on a 16gb card...

I have a Panasonic G3 (just bought - I also have a GF2 but bought the G3 as I wanted a viewfinder) plus the 14-42 kit lens (the 14-45 older kit lens is better apparently) and a 45-175 Panasonic zoom. All fits into a neat Lowpro Apex 110 AW bag. If I wanted a slim camera, I think I'd go for the WB750 but at present, not sure if I'd get the use. I think they're bargains as it a competitive market not least for competing against camera smartphones.

yo Big G, how are you coping with the NEX-7 and "high" ISO's. Tbh I was doing some pic taking yesterday, and op to 400 it's fine, but tbh anything over 800 is just shit. And given the cam goes to "16000", that's a large bit of the range being unusable imo! Ofc, I have most of this info from an admittedly difficult pic of a lighted church spire against a dark blue evening sky at 3200. SO MUCH crap in that one. Blue pixels everywhere. Just...UGH :(

Can you post samples? High ISO is slightly better than my EOS 7D, the noise is very manageable.

Cool.

I'm mobile just now, but the ISO performance is among the best for APS-C for higher ISO, particularly given the resolution. To get better, you need to move to full frame - a quick scan at the DxO tests show that a 5D Mk2 has a 1 stop advantage over the NEX7 at ISO 1600 with that advantage narrowing to 0.5 stops at ISO 3200 which would barely be noticeable on a print.

Are you shooting RAW? Or are you using the camera's noise reduction / JPEG?

I'll will post samples tonight, but I find the noise performance excellent considering the price.

yes, I'm shooting RAW, though that said I was reading a test last night by Steve H re low-light/high-ISO shooting comparing a couple of APS-C cameras and the JPEG's by the NEX-7 looked pretty sweet.

another thing is that I am using a linux program called Darktable to develop my RAW's, and I have noticed with images from other cameras I've tested that the different noise reduction plugins in DT are not as good as the ones in Adobe Lightroom. Ofc Darktable is free, and LR is not, so hey, choices, choices :)

Okay, here's a shot at ISO 3200, hand held at 1/20 of a second, f/3.5 at 55mm. The noise is minimal after a little bit of Topaz Denoize, this would make a perfectly acceptable 8 x 10.

Yeah you read that right: HAND HELD. I love my Canon LOLmm to WOOTmm.

The 17-55mm is image stabilised which helps a lot.

Tell me, is the new £2000 24-70mm image stabilised?
